I laughed in a very peculiar way at this. Idk It depends how you like your drinks. If you’re going for rye in a manhattan, and you should, then look for a spicier one. This is what rye brings to the table. A lot of ryes like Sazerac have a very slight bourbon-y vanilla and cream flavor, which is fine if that’s what you prefer. I’ve had them with Rittenhouse (100 proof, textbook flavor) and the higher priced Van Winkle Reserve, and both were excellent. Try a few and learn what you like.

Re: Decembre 2013 Waiters
I've heard of this drink, but it seems sacrilegious. I don't think I could pay for that. I love smoky/peaty scotch like Laph.FrenchDonkey wrote:Manhattans are the shit. My favorite bar makes a smoky manhattan that substitutes the rye with Laphroaig and it's quite beautiful. As someone who loves the Islay malts (although not a huge fan of Laphroaig by itself), it's definitely my favorite cocktail.snagglepuss wrote:Bummer. Sazerac Rye is one of the better cocktail ryes. On a special occasion I'd do Whistlepig. Any drink with red vermouth is good in my book, though.PourMeTea wrote:Have not drowned, have not been drinking, unfortunately. I'd like to do both. Edit: Bee, are you drinking flat champagne? That's...not okay.
Tea, dry vermouth is CR, too. I just really like red vermouth in negronis/manhattans.[/quote]
Ditto on playing with Laph, but i would be willing to try it. If someone knows what they're doing, it might be really good.

Re: Decembre 2013 Waiters
Unfortunately, I can't contribute much to the current discussion as I'm not much acquainted with drinks. A lot of my family are Portuguese farmers who make their own wine so when I'm there I'm usually drinking whatever it is they have bottled in their basement. When I'm in the U.S. it's usually whatever Portuguese wine is being sold at the supermarket.
Port wine is great with dessert though and I can assure you of that.

What's everyone's strategy for grey day? I spent October refreshing the page like a mad man but I don't think that's what I want to do this time.
i will end up refreshing, i know it. im really hoping ill have a meeting or something and not be aware of it until it's over. although with the impending storm, its looking like might be home. have to come up with a plan.
