Oh. That's great to hear. Thanks, I was confused because he said you were supposed to approach them differently, but based on your experience I will just continue this approach.etramak wrote:ngogirl12 wrote:Another question for 7Sage people:
I'm doing Pseudo Sufficient questions. So my process for any sufficient question is this:
1) Find the conclusion
2) Find the premise that fills the gap with the conclusion
3) premise acts as the sufficient condition in the answer choice, and the conclusion acts as the necessary condition.
I did a problem that JY did and it's supposed to be approached differently because it's not so airtight. I did the same process and got the right answer. Am I approaching it correctly or do I need to follow a different process?
I've been prepping since January and routinely get -2 or better on LR nowadays. I have no idea what a pseudo sufficient question is. Whatever they are I suppose I've been treating them the same as sufficient assumption or principal questons (basically the same method you lay out) and havent had a problem.

Yeah, I think it's similar to the 1V questions then. JY lays it out like this: instead of A you have A` (A prime, so something similar to A but not quite an A) then the assumption you provide is A-->B and the conclusion they give you is B. So there is a tiny assumption in A`.34iplaw wrote:
I'm not certain that there is any difference between a psuedo assumption question. I *assume* it is similar to how testmasters differentiates between a Type 1 and a Type 1V - what must be true. They are the same, but a type V may not be true in some ridiculous scenario that isn't going to happen. I imagine that a psuedo assumption *is* the same as an assumption question, but there may be some extreme situation that it wouldn't cover.
i.e. your assumption covers everything except a meteor hitting the earth [granted, this may not be applicable to questions about orbits and gravitational deflection!] versus a question with two mutually exclusive / logical opposites... [All As are Bs...therefore this item is not an A...a sufficient assumption here would be that this item is not a B...that would *always* be true]
I'm not certain that is what it is, but, in either event, someone please clarify and verify.
I was just uncertain if my methodology was still appropriate, but I think it is so I will continue to use it unless I have problems when I drill.
Thanks for your help!

For me its the reverse, I can leave LG and still come back at it. I leave RC for one day, and I'm screwed.PhiladelphiaCollins wrote:Did an RC this morning I'm about to B.R. and went -5, so decently happy with it, definitely trying to get to -3 soon. The -8 on LG for PT 42 though I am not happy with especially cause I ran out of time. I feel with RC even though I had to work harder at it if I leave it for a day or two I'm fine, but if I leave LG for that long I get dinged hard.

100%. I was going to initially do 7Sage's RC curriculum too, but when I looked at one of the lessons it went over my head. It was simply too much. So, I went with the Manhattan RC Guide, it worked for me and even then I don't do everything they advocate, I kind of incorporate my own twists into my RC prep.TheMikey wrote:Shiiiiit, I wish I were in the big leagues lmao. I really want to get my LR down to -1/-0 per section, my LG on a consistent -0 (timed my average is between about -2/-3, and when BR -0) but I usually redo LG section at least 2 more times so my timing and score is obviously better the 2nd and 3rd time. RC is a mess, I'll get there lmao. 7sage has helped me a lot honestly, I destroyed their LR lessons in a short period of time but I saw a difference in where I was at before and now. LG I haven't gone through all of their stuff since I'm slightly confident with the section, but some games do still screw me up which I need to work on. Their RC lessons are helpful as well, but I feel like RC is more of just doing it on your own to see what approach is best fit for YOU. Like, lately I've been doing 7sages memory method, but I love to quickly circle names when I read over them. This helps me to later on identify a name or group talked about, even though the memory method should be what makes you look at a paragraph over the other for a name/group name, but this is just personal preference.Barack O'Drama wrote:TheMikey wrote:Nice!! I average about 3 or 4 wrong on each timed LR section. So if I can get to that point, anyone can! Lmao. I've procrastinated on attacking must be true questions that use formal logic since they seem to be my weakness but I'll get to it once I see more RC improvement.Barack O'Drama wrote:Did a LR section and went -3 on it. A few were lucky guesses, but it is still improvement! Before this the best I have done was a -4 on LR.
The good thing is that I am starting to pinpoint my weaknesses. And hopefully with some diligence I can eliminate them before the test.
If I can start to go -3 consistently on timed sections of LR, and get LG's down to the same, I will be scoring in the high 160s!
Also a side note for everyone else,
I did 5 evaluate questions earlier ( the only 5 evaluate questions in Cambridges volume 2 by type book) and went -4. JFC, someone help me with these lol, I just don't get them. How do you approach these??? I'll put which ones they are when I get home but as of right now, any tips for them???
Really! Damn, that means I'm moving on up to the big leagues with you guys, haha. At this point, I am just really concerned with understanding the ins and outs of ever type of LR game. I'm sick of the inconsistencies in my LR score. I usually average about -6, but I don't have much data to go off.
However, I think the 7Sage course has been helping, because this time I felt more confident in answering the questions for the lessons I've gone over. I was also able to blind review to -1.

Re: The Official September 2016 Study Group - WELCOME JUNE WAITERS
wow I really quadrupled posted, sorry about that!
Hit another science RC set today, it was -4 which was the ballpark for what I was in before. Much better than my abysmal experience yesterday.
So the plan for today is:
1) RC vocabulary
2) RC cross review (I already reviewed, I'm going to check with Manhattan/7Sage to ensure its correct)
3) Finish sufficient lesson and drill
4) LG (I got one game in that I've been drilling at 5.5 minutes, but I need to practice more LG, I've been neglecting LG for RC)
Lesson learned: Don't go one day without drilling a science RC set.

I was thinking of typing them up and popping them into excel to make random question packs / ask random questions... It may just be too much effort to actually type it all up...the actual functioning of the sheet / VBA [probably not entirely necessary] would probably take 30 minutes to make.Alexandros wrote:Seriously considering taking pics of every LR question I get wrong and covering a wall with them at this point. -_-

Re: The Official September 2016 Study Group - WELCOME JUNE WAITERS
Went through the games section from PT70.
32 min 19/23 (-4)
If the game section in September is as easy at PT70 I will be just fine. The 4 I missed were just careless mistakes. Bloop.
when I actually took PT70 in October I missed 9. (4 i missed today I missed on the actual exam
)
there was an in/out game (game 2) that I got through with no issues. my mistakes going through 7 sage are just fatigue I think. i keep pushing through cause I'm a few days behind on my study schedule. I should be PTing starting next week but i think it'll have to be the week after.

K so I reviewed and marked the 2 RC passages that I did earlier today during my break. Did terrible on them, great. It might just be because they were literary critic passages, which I've always been bad at, even worse than science ones. This sucks, I was seeing such good improvement with RC lately, crap.
