No problem! I clearly have no life outside of the LSAT, so I was happy to go to Staples and get some new office supplies. Also, I needed ink and paper as well.Alexandros wrote: Super!! Thanks for the thorough pencil reviews![]()
I got some new pencils the other day, but they're not quite up to par. Will look into Staedtler Noricas.
Yeah, you can get them really cheap too. 36 for 8 bucks iirc. Oh, I forgot to mention that they come pre-sharpened which I really like.
Come LSAT day if I see anyone at my administration using a Norica, I am going to see if they are a TLSer, lol.

Anyone have some tips for RC? Getting really disheartened. Maybe I'm burnt out? Idk.

I'd say the are more subtleties and nuances in the newer LR, but older LR include some stuff that is just convoluted and unnecessary. I've been drilling mostly older LR as of late, and it seems to just throw in unnecessary words with bad phrasing for the sole reason of confusing you. Sometimes in review you read a question like 4 times and barely understand the phrasing of itSweetTort wrote:Do you guys think there's been a change in difficulty of LR from the older to newer tests? if so, in which direction?

You might be burnt out. I think you should chill out a bit for a few days and not do anything LSAT related. You've been going at it for a while bro, just take a few days, enjoy some free time, and come back to it afterSweetTort wrote:Anyone have some tips for RC? Getting really disheartened. Also seconded w/ what TheMikey said. Take a day or two. I took this entire weekend off to spend with my GF and came back Monday and made quick work of those sequencing games I was ranting about last week.

OK, just to confirm, are these signs of burnout?
-mind foggy when drilling and testing
-scores fluctuating
-missed questions are mainly ones I revisited and changed my answer on, where the original answer was correct.
I just don't want to take off time if I'm NOT burnt out.

Definitely sounds like burnout. I had this happen to me in Feb when I took, and just kept going and my scores degenerated as I got close to test day. Ended up with a lower score than my first time and was really disappointed in myself. I think a break for a couple of days when I felt it setting in might have helped me out in the long run.SweetTort wrote:OK, just to confirm, are these signs of burnout?

I might have to check these out. I've had the Ticon Blacks, but am not overly impressed with them vs a normal cheap #2.Barack O'Drama wrote:No problem! Just redid for a 3rd time games 2 and 3 from PT 28. I mostly wanted to get game 2's style down, but went ahead and did game 3 since I could improve timing on it from before.
Game 2: 7/7 (8:36)
Game 3: 6/6 (6:25)
Going to go back and do PT 41's circular game and try to hit under 10 mins for it later.

Just got back from a long weekend in the mountains (Colorado) - great to clear the mind! I want to get back in to a studying groove but I'm actually headed out to Chicago this weekend - I'll try to get some work done on the train but still want to enjoy myself there as well. Seeing Coldplay at Soldier Field on Sunday though, should be awesome.

Yeah no problem. I've been drilling RC untimed and I have noticed improvements with my progress. That said, I had a really bad RC day today, I'm hoping it's an anomaly.TexasENG wrote:ngogirl12 wrote:Some people like the Trainer for RC, I just finished the Manhattan RC guide and highly recommend it.TexasENG wrote:Anyone have a recommendation for a good RC book?
I'm planning on taking my last time in September. LG on my others have been -0, and LR -2 to -4, but my RC has been all over the place. I used the bibles for the first one, but didn't find the RC bible to be really helpful at all.
Thanks for the input! I've heard good things about Manhattan's RC. I'll have to pick it up this week. I think that my RC is the only thing holding me back from a 175+, so really trying to get it locked down before September.

I haven't really done the newer ones but from my participation in the 7Sage webinars, the only difference I have noted is they are more wordier and have one or two premises that are irrelevant to what the question stem is asking for. Overall, I think the newer LR questions seem easier than the older ones. Probably more time consuming.SweetTort wrote:Do you guys think there's been a change in difficulty of LR from the older to newer tests? if so, in which direction?
This is from a very limited exposure to the newer LR though, so don't go based on me!

-1 on LG from 65. -_- Not sure why I picked the answer I did. I need to remember to put a mark beside questions I didn't get to 100% verify, so I can return to them at the end if need be.
TIme for LR.

Re: The Official September 2016 Study Group - WELCOME JUNE WAITERS
Thanks for this! On 7Sage they highly recommend the Norica's as well. I bought the black Ticonderoga's awhile back, but when they become small I might invest in the Norica's. Did the Norica's smudge? For me my two issues are the darker lead and the smudging. I love pencils that have a darker lead.Barack O'Drama wrote:So a couple of days ago I mentioned I was going to buy some pencils and review them. I posted a more lengthy review w/ picture here: http://www.top-law-schools.com/forums/v ... l#p9463317
Here are some quick thoughts on what I found. I basically compared the Ticon Blacks, Palomino Blackwing 602, and Staedtler Norica.
The Staedtler Norica was my favorite for a few reasons. The main one was that the Ticon seemed to scratch the paper and the Norica was smooth and glided on the paper. It made it easier to write neat, easier to bubble, and was more comfortable. I'm ambidextrous and switch the hand I write with sometimes and it seemed ok for both. Also, they seemed better for bubbling in answers. I think the lead is a bit more soft.
The Palomino Blackwing was similar to the Staedtler, but almost too smooth. Better for drawing; not for test taking. Also, when I tried with my left hand, it smudged... Incidentally, some have said this is ok for the test despite the fact it may not be a true #2, still I wouldn't risk it. Lastly, this thing does not erase well. Not recommended.
The Ticon Blacks are really good, too. If you're not as neurotic as me, I think they will do just fine. They erase a bit easier than the Noricas, but being that the lead is a bit more hard, the only downside is they don't seem as smooth. When writing fast the hard lead makes writing neat a bit more challenging.
I ended up buying 72 Noricas for like $20 at Staples. So they aren't expensive. Now I have enough forever! The Palomino Blackwings were like $17 for a dozen. And the Ticon Blacks are about $5 for 2 dozen. I also got the Palomino Blackwing sharpener which is great for giving your pencil a longer tip.
ETA: I'm going to PT this weekend with the 180 Watch and I'll post a full review for that somewhere. (Couple people messaged me to ask how it is so far)
My issue with the Black Ticonderoga's is the lead is not dark enough, would you say the Staedler's lead is darker?

"Sorry, can't come out for drinks, I have a practice test scheduled for that evening."
That doesn't sound very good. I need to think of a better sounding excuse.

For those of you that use 7Sage quick question:
When your going through the LR videos in the curriculum, if you get the same answer as JY and understand the reasoning for all the other answer choices, do you sit through his explanations or just move on?
I ask this because yesterday I was watching some of the videos but found myself tuning out because I understood the process and was getting bored. I don't know if this is the right approach though.
