Re: The Official June 2015 Waiter's Thread
Sorry typically people on TLS talk top percentile in law school they mean around 15 percent. Bc they use it in the context of clerkships or for lower tiered schools they want big law and they use around 15 percent is the cut off. I think after you look at the employment part of TLS you'll see someone ranked out of the top 15 percent and not in the bottom 20 have pretty much same employment achievements for T16Seamus887 wrote:Context of what we are talking about determines what I consider top percentile. For LSAT I obviously don't, but the LSAT isn't a hard curve where no matter how good I do grades have to align a certain way. If i know my crap I will score well, versus the subjectivity of law school grades means I'll need all the advantage I can get.placeholder wrote:So when you use the word top percentile you mean anything above 65 percent.... LSAT score 155 is top...Seamus887 wrote:Exactly. If I need to beat of 65% of the class for big law, I aint working 20 hours a week in law school.buckiguy_sucks wrote:so you're saying top 1/3 of your class is not "being top percentage" because it definitely isplaceholder wrote:i consider texas and ucla t16 not bc of the money but more the stability in getting big law. i used t16 in the context of seamus saying you need to be top percentage to get big law, and i said you do not if you are going to these 16 law schools because consistently around 35 percent get big law...

you know not every places big law is the same.... like philadelphia big law is 145k missouri its 110k. If you are in WUSTL you are probably are getting the missouri one that's why they don't publish their numbers. USC does because they get a couple 160k in LA but compare it to UCLA you see a bigger proportionbuckiguy_sucks wrote:big law quality of job can be drastically different but that's firm dependent and not a factor of the prestige of the big law job you're going intoplaceholder wrote: b/c quality of job needs to be factored in which means you need to salary as a factor. 110K is their top percentile for big law....
most big law firms pay market 160k i don't know what "110k is their top percentile for big law" is supposed to mean
ETA: this is to say that big law coming out of columbia does not mean your life will suck less than big law coming out of any school, and that you will still be getting paid 160k
