Re: DECEMBER 2010 DOMINATION
First 175 scored in the morning
PT33, LR from PT31 as ES
LR1 -3
RC -2 (changed one to the wrong answer at the last minute!! so close)
LR2 -3
LG -0
that rarely happens...breezed through three of them then really needed the extra time on the last one.
ES - LR, -5. Ouch. That is all.
G'luck to everyone in the last week!...I've found it's good motivation for me to post these up - not even sure why!

smh...
thoght I hit a 164 on PT53..turned out I marked two LRs wrong that I got right.
turns out that I really got a
-1 LR1
-7 LG
-1 LR2
-7 RC
the sad fact is that I haven't been focused on the RC because its my best section. No excuse and I'm not going to count on that on the test but surely I won't get -7 on Saturday.
Still a 166 is low end of acceptable, as opposed to a 164 which was like

Re: DECEMBER 2010 DOMINATION
I have absolutely failed in my preparation for my December retake. From October to Present I have only take 4 full tests (progressively declining 179,176,174,172) and done zero other prep
. O well, those tests fall in the range I want and even a devastating performance in December will still leave me in better position than originally planned (at least I tell myself this).

man I am doing the games in the 30s right now and I am getting ROCKED after having much confidence I was doing better... stay away from the early 30s PTs if you want confidence on the games section

Re: DECEMBER 2010 DOMINATION
Another 167 today, eerily similar to my 167 yesterday (though again, 2 weeks ago i was at a 158).
June 2009
LG -3
LR -4
LR -3
RC -7
I felt like I was breezing through the RC down the home stretch and next thing I know I have 5 mins left and I'm barely halfway through the third passage. Had to guess on most of the fourth passage, which made me feel pathetic. Could've maybe hit a 170 if I had moved a little faster.
I have an obvious weakpoint, and I am going to attack the shit out of it over the next 4 days or so.
Tomorrow I spend the entire day doing Reading Comp. Wednesday I do June 2010. Thursday I do October 2010. Saturday I do December 2010.

My opinion changes from day to day lol.. I think I'm just not in the zone since I took last night off and went to a roger waters concert. I think the -13 curve means that the test overall was pretty hard though.

Please tell me you are joking. This was my absolute worse RC I have EVER done (I missed 16). It honestly gave me a panic attack mid through because I couldn't focus. I dominated the rest of the test though. Im looking it over tomorrow, I hope it was just a fluke.

I think I missed 2 on October's RC which would be better than my average. Don't recall thinking it was overly difficult or overly easy.

Re: DECEMBER 2010 DOMINATION
Octobers RC KILLED me. I got -10. I think it was the last passage that got me. I just ran out of time and had to guess the whole thing (got none of the guesses right). I haven't reviewed it because I'm retaking it in February and want to wait a while so I can take it and see if I score better.StrictlyLiable wrote:superhands wrote:I did PT 61 today and scored a 164, a personal best. I also found the Oct RC easier and RC is by far my worst section. I was actually convinced it was the experimental after I did it and needless to say am very pissed I wasted an RC that I handled well.LSpleaseee wrote:Octobers RC KILLED me. I got -10. PT 58
RC: -11
LG: -6
LR1: -3
LR2: -3
Raw 78, scaled 161
SIGH. Took two days off cause I was feeling a bit burned out. Saturday, was stalking TLS with my spare time and it didn't really help relieve stress so on Sunday I purposely stayed off TLS. Didn't think it helped too much... now instead of burnout I feel as though I'm falling behind and need more practice. My last PTs are as follows: 167 167 165 163 163 and now 161. Needless to say, WORST time for my scores to start diving.
I was originally going to rest on Thurs and Friday, maybe punch in a few LGs but now I think I'm going to PT on Thursday.
I just want to die now.

Re: DECEMBER 2010 DOMINATION
Does anyone have a tip for RC? I've heard just practice practice practice, but I'm consistantly getting -6 or -7 when i'm getting -2's in LG and LR. I know its very late in the game to change my strategy, but at this point any tip may help. Thanks guys.

Read anything you can get your hands on that you don't understand. The economist. Plato. Recent court decisions. The healthcare law. Physics textbooks. Learn how to reAd them with attention and for content. Try to explainthem to other people or yourself. Then RC on the test seems like no biggie!2things2 wrote:Does anyone have a tip for RC? I don't know if this will work for you, but it's what I do and I usually get -3 at the worst, -1 at best with 2-3 minutes left over.2things2 wrote:Does anyone have a tip for RC? I read the passage on the faster side (just enough to get the general idea). While I go through the first time I mark on the side important things like CH VP, VP1 VP2 for change of view point, CRIT for criticism, ect. These are really quick notes on the side that shouldn't take much time at all. I use these for super quick reference when I do the questions. I also box people's names, organization's name, dates, ect, if there's a quote I put on the side " ". Once I read each question I go back to the section of the passage that it refers to and re-read the few lines I need to. I do this before I look at the answer choices so I don't get trapped by a wrong answer. Although if the question is a main point/tone/purpose question I don't generally go back. I also make sure to save the passage with the least questions, usually 5, for last.

Re: DECEMBER 2010 DOMINATION
PT 55
LR: -1
RC: -4 (-3 from the humanities reading passage alone - i don't like poetry, i don't like art, i particularly dislike reading about the history of either, and i can never do well on any of the humanities readings. and it's killing my score.)
LR: -0
LG: -0
Raw: 95/100
Scaled: 175
If I hadn't screwed up the humanities reading passage, my score would've been 179. This is a consistent trend on most of my PTs. They use vocab I don't know and talk about the history of boring boring stuff. I have no prior knowledge about any of the concepts discussed, as I generally do with all other passages.
I've got 4 days left in which to fix this.

Ok, so I know this may be really stupid, but I JUST FIGURED OUT CONDITIONAL NEGATION. Yea, not sure how I've been getting as many right as I have been *not* understanding this, but man, that makes the assumption questions a heck of alot easier. Sort of can't wait to take another PT and see if this pays off. Nerdy, right?

PT 42 is done.
LG: -2
LR 1: -1
Exp (LR 2 from PT 30): -1
RC: -1
LR 2: -0
Raw: 97
Score: 177
A bit irritated at my -2 LG, since my last two PTs had -0 LGs. But I made up for it with my -1 LR total, which is my best LR performance ever. I'm particularly happy about my -0 in my LR2, since I felt that I tended to grow a bit careless towards the end of the test.
