Re: The Official September 2016 Study Group - WELCOME JUNE WAITERS
just took my first PT (62) after my miserable june lsat... proud to report i managed a 170. i was veeery nervous about it, so this is a good confidence boost.
didn't look at section breakdown TOO much so i can have an honest BR tomorrow, but i did note i got 26/26 on one of my LR sections, woo!
HOWEVER, i'm realizing i actually really struggle with finishing LG. i think i ignored that in my first set of studies, and just banked on the fact that i'd finish test day, when usually..i don't finish...
i know game timing strategy is abundant out there, but did anyone have a major breakthrough with getting better with time? if so, care to share? i think it's a matter of getting my fundamentals down pat, but any other advice is very welcome!

I know I've only been going at RC very hard for like 3 days now, but no lie, I think I'm seeing some slight improvement. Doing 7sage's method, I'm actually starting to remember more things now without referring to the passage much. I just did an untimed passage, but I tried going somewhat fast but not too fast, and I zoomed through the questions and was so confident that I got all 6 correct and I did. I only did a quick review since I still had the passage in my head and I was overly confident about it. Give or take, it was an easy passage but it clicked for me and I'll take it as improvement, lmao.

Also, the bolded, we are the same lol. I also kind of neglected my LG timing the first time around because I was like "ahh I know how to do them, i'll just do them faster". So much for that huh?

THANK YOU! So much better for the Cambridge packets than the LSAT bubble sheets I've been using. I often found myself mis-bubbling because the confusion the standard LSAT bubble sheets are laid out in sections...
I have to print like 50 of these out!

I'm still working on LGs, so no advice on timing. I just noticed I got really good with time, when I got really good with the games. I just drilled, drilled. drilled until I was going -0 in under 35 minutes. I still don't always finish and I usually go -4 or -5. So I have a lot to improve on myself.

holy shit, woke up past 11am completely zonked out. And really hungry, with no food.
Not doing well on these LR questions at all. Welp, time to go to the grocery store and make another pot of coffee.
(@ brain - why are you doing this?? you got 10 hours of sleep and don't have to go to work. ??? )

Googling cool shit to do in NYC is major motivation for the LSAT. Like, idk if I have a shot in hell at a full ride to NYU/Columbia, but these museums and gyms make me want to at least try!

PT 42
LG: -0 (27:52 mins)
Did this section before but wanted to familiarize myself more with the patterns of game 3, but went ahead and did the whole section.

I think as long as you get in at least a few more PT's before the real deal (just for the stamina) you should be fine.SweetTort wrote:
1-38 have been drilled into the fucking ground. I'm glad I did it, but there's diminishing returns. Now, I'm sacrificing the chance of taking tons of full length PT's, but I think drilling them will be MUCH more valuable, especially since I don't derive much value from doing LR.

Really need to go back to my college town where there's cheaper booze and free copying in my office... Being at home for summer blows

Re: The Official September 2016 Study Group - WELCOME JUNE WAITERS
Honestly, LG is my strength of the three, but for me (other than initially going through the books and getting the strategies down pat LG bible/Nova) what worked with timing was JY's Fool Proof method.carasrook wrote: i know game timing strategy is abundant out there, but did anyone have a major breakthrough with getting better with time?
So this is my strategy:
I go through each of the chapters of the LG Cambridge 1-38, and for each game I try to get it under 6-8 minutes, if I'm over that time then I mark it as redo (even if I got a perfect score) or review (if I got at least 1 wrong) then Fool Proof the heck out of the game. I found this method really good. Also, before I start PTing I plan on doing at least 1 timed LG section so I get used to seeing a LG of different types as opposed to the same type. For example, I don't think I'll be able to take the 40's because of the time left before the test, so I will do a section a day of the LG from those tests. I will fool proof any game I'm bad on timing with or miss even one question on from those sets too. I'm hoping this will ensure success come test day!
But generally my goal for all games except the REALLY tricky ones is between 6-7 minutes.
When I do this method (not the timed LG section because I'm still on the Cambridge bundle) I find my timing is great. Also, you get the nuances and intricacies of the different games.
I hope this helps!

Me too! I know it's crazy to think your seeing improvement within a few days, but it is entirely possible if you dedicate your time to it. Slow and steady wins the race!TheMikey wrote:I know I've only been going at RC very hard for like 3 days now, but no lie, I think I'm seeing some slight improvement.

Re: The Official September 2016 Study Group - WELCOME JUNE WAITERS
just scored the RC section from PT 25:
-3
missed one easy question and the other two were questions I knew I wasn't 100% on. had 10.5 minutes left for the last passage. last time I took the LSAT I was usually going between -5-10 on RC!

You know sometimes when you sleep more than usual your brain gets sluggish and tired and actually works SLOWER than usual. Well that's been my experience lol and I read an article about it once.Alexandros wrote:holy shit, woke up past 11am completely zonked out. And really hungry, with no food.

I think you're supposed to get between 7-9 hours daily. I need to work on this.
Last night I went to sleep at 1:30am then I woke up at 4:30am and couldn't sleep until 6:30am. I forced myself to sleep (I woke up at 10am today

Everyone who moves to NYC never really does any of that barring maybe some drunk boozing on the UWS followed by a drunken stumbling about the Museum of Natural History...SweetTort wrote:Googling cool shit to do in NYC is major motivation for the LSAT. I forget what it's from, but it's like, "Oh, I love NYC - there are museums, theatres, etc. etc.," when they never go to any of it!
NYU's area is way cooler than Columbia though, IMO. 100 Montadillos is great, but UWS does have Chirping Chicken I think...such good cheap eats.
On a side note, why is Starbucks so cold? I'm sitting here and had a snack before I get back into it. Just got out of class... multiple association games and what would help you evaluate the argument questions. Diagnostic tomorrow, so I probably won't go too nuts today. Maybe another 4 or so RC passages and some games.

Re: The Official September 2016 Study Group - WELCOME JUNE WAITERS
I had a really crazy sleep schedule last night because I stayed up and wanted to get through all the Sufficient quizzes before hitting the sack.
I have to go to this lunch with my family, I told my mom that after this I'm not going to anything lol.
So my plan for today is:
1) Redo the Sufficient Assumption Quizzes
2) Continue the Sufficient Assumption curriculum i.e. watch JY talk through a bunch of problems, after I do them myself to see if I'm correct in my reasoning
3) If I'm lucky do half of the SA questions in the Cambridge packet
4) Do a set the Legal passages
5) LG
I don't know if I'm going to get through all this since this lunch is going to take out a couple hours (changing, driving, eating etc), but I'm hoping I will get through it all!

just scored an LR section from PT 25 and went -1 but I saw 3 questions before, and they were ones which were tricky so I'm not taking this at face value.
also, does anyone else find the older LR sections to be way weird compared to modern LR sections?
