Exactly! The only con is that much like the Perfect Score watch, the strap is extremely cheap faux-leather. It's not a big deal for me because I don't wear it, I just put is leaned up at an angle. So much better than my Perfect Score one. It is literally a legal stopwatch. Way nicer and easier to use than the Perfect Score one. I was skeptical at first, because I didn't want to spend the $60, but a free gift? I'll take it!
I certainly will! She heard me mentioning it and the Perfect Score's adjustment pin is nearly impossible to get out. I thought it was because my nails were a bit short, and I was having trouble getting a grip on it. But time after time, it took me like 20-30 seconds to reset the time after a section.
I just checked it out real quick, and it is a stop watch that somehow is legal for the lsat. Just push a button and BAM it starts/stops. And the other button resets the time automatically.
I'll definitely let you guys know how it is when I actually use it for a real PT.

One thing I can say for repetitive drilling is that it's psychologically reinforcing af. However inflated, these -0s are making me want to do more.

I have the Casio Mens watch, it comes with a stand, but based on what everyone is saying, I'm going to make sure I have long nails come September.

Re: The Official September 2016 Study Group - WELCOME JUNE WAITERS
SO, I just finished reviewing my RC 2 from last night, and 2 from this morning. What I did was reviewed my answers and anything I was unsure of. Since I did them untimed, I think it's like BR the first time around. What I did was self-review and checked my answers with JY/Manhattan forums. I found for the most part my reasoning matched the explanations which I take as a good sign!!
Question: When you review RC do you just review it that one time, or save it and review it daily so the reasoning is seared into your brain?
I was going to do my set of legal passages but I think I'm going to forgo it to do some LR. I'm about to start the Sufficient questions portion of the curriculum which I'm super excited about because it's literally my favorite LR question type.

I don't really do proper BRs because I'm lazy so I'm not sure if this applies, but I usually put a tick beside questions I struggled with and check them again after time's up.ngogirl12 wrote:SO, I just finished reviewing my RC 2 from last night, and 2 from this morning. I only do it once or maybe look at it multiple times in a day, but certainly not daily. I've never really considered reviewing the same questions after a day, (at least with RC) but it would probably depend on the extent that you struggle with RC, the nature of your errors, and your style of learning. My concern would be that it would end being the passage / question content that would get seared in my brain; and I really dislike remembering specific questions too well. I would think that one would become familiar with core reasoning patterns through varying passage + reviews and maybe reviewing the few particularly nasty questions more frequently.

Nah... it's a logic game. It's actually not bad, but it kind of sucks. Maybe I was just too drained when I tried to do it.ngogirl12 wrote:You sick?34iplaw wrote:Alphabet soup game sucks, IMO.
As for BO, it's awesome & appreciate the info on the timing for RC. I pretty much always finish reading the passage and jotting any notes within 3 minutes.
As for your question on RC blind review, I think it depends where you are. I'm at the point that I can basically get 100% accuracy on 10/12 passages and maybe miss something from a definitional or vocab issue [i.e. I didn't think entail implied order rather just thought it implied grouping] type deal. My reasoning is pretty solid, so I'm starting to somewhat try to focus on discipline and speed. My biggest drawback right now is discipline.
I wouldn't worry too much about timing until you have fairly high accuracy untimed. I think you can benefit from focusing on similarly styled or themed passages. There are some recurring themes that can basically help you know what the tone is going to be. In addition, you can always eliminate 2-3 answer choices right off the bat for any tone question, as there are always a few that are just the exact opposite.
Author's tone will *always* {almost? I think always though} be positive towards minority groups, non-western cultures, diversity [cultural, ecological, etc.], the environment, and, for the most part, typically progressive ideas.
Author's tone will *always* {almost? I think always though} be negative towards anything that severely threatens the above - assimilation, pollution, etc.
Keep in mind, there could be a passage largely about assimilation where the author's tone is positive towards those resisting assimilation, but the author will never view assimilators in a positive light (if that makes sense).

Re: The Official September 2016 Study Group - WELCOME JUNE WAITERS
You make an excellent point about the RC passage getting seared into my brain. I don't think I will review them every night then, only one time in detail when I'm reviewing. Thanks for that! I'm currently doing them untimed (all of the RC passages but my focus area is Science and Legal), when my accuracy is 100% I'll move to timing myself. Although, I think I'm already within the time that I need to be, I just don't have the pressure of the watch and second hand ticking!Alexandros wrote:I don't really do proper BRs because I'm lazy so I'm not sure if this applies, but I usually put a tick beside questions I struggled with and check them again after time's up.ngogirl12 wrote:SO, I just finished reviewing my RC 2 from last night, and 2 from this morning. Oh! I've done that game before and know it very well. Let me know if you need help with it.
Thanks for the tidbits about the passages. I generally get perfect score on two passages and get 2-3 wrong on the other two. I have only done one RC section timed and I was pretty good with timing, BUT I messed up on the Science and Legal passages so my plan for now is drilling those two untimed and work the other passages in when I complete these. I'm finding even drilling these passages untimed I get two passages perfect score and a few wrong on the other two. And it's weird because it's not a specific order. The set I did this morning, it was the second and third passage I messed up on. The third passage was an overconfidance error and not confirming with the text, and the second passage after reviewing it was the context of the authors vocabulary word in the answer choice.
One thing I'm doing also is underlining vocabulary words, so if I don't know what the word means OR if I have a general idea but it could mean something else in the authors argument. I found that to be a problem with at least 2 questions today. Then, I write the vocabulary word and its definition in this notebook I have. I'm not trying to memorize the words, but since I'm a visual learner when I write it down I make pictures of the definition in my mind and I generally remember most of the words I write down.
I don't know if that says anything about me, but hopefully my accuracy will go up!
I think with discipline it's about taking/feigning an interest in the material. I'm not naturally a science-y person, but I read it with a fascination for the topic, "wow, this is really interesting!" Also, I'm a visual learner, so I make pictures in my brain about what I'm reading. That helps with what Manhattan calls the passage map for structural and main point questions.

1-38 have been drilled into the fucking ground. I'm glad I did it, but there's diminishing returns. Now, I'm sacrificing the chance of taking tons of full length PT's, but I think drilling them will be MUCH more valuable, especially since I don't derive much value from doing LR.

Agenda for today in order but spread out throughout the day:
2 untimed RC passages (because I suck)
Timed LG section (already did this one but I want to get better timing for games 3 and 4)
Timed LR section
2 more untimed RC passages
Some breaks thrown in there, as well as breaks in between doing each section/passage and reviewing each one.
