I know close to nothing about him because I don't pay any attention to what Trump does tbh. I figured if I'm not voting for Trump there's no reason to care who his VP pick is. but from what I know of him, I'm not a fan.
Ehh same.
I saw a satirical New Yorker article a couple weeks ago saying he'd picked Michael Bay as VP and totally swallowed it. I was just like... Welp.

Hi all,

Checking in. I'm new here and registered for the September LSAT. I'm looking to get some used "by type" books (since the PDF packets are no longer available) to supplement and use for drilling. For LR in particular, would those of you who drill recommend a volume that covers PTs 21-40 or PTs 41-60? I believe more recent questions are generally viewed as better, but I've heard that at least some sections may be starting to pull questions that are more similar to ones on older PTs. Thought I would run it by those of you who are very experienced with drilling and have likely seen many of the questions on these particular PTs. Opinions on other sections appreciated as well! Sorry if this has been covered previously. You all seem to be experts, and I am relatively new to this.

Thanks!!

Definitely don't buy a by type book that uses LR questions from PT 41-60, you want to be using those for actual PTs. You can go with the 21-40 one (that's actually the one I got and I think it's good) or the earlier one of 1-20 if those are even around anymore.

Wow! Are you retaking? LG was definitely my problem area at first (read: I couldn't do it at all) so I spent the first month of prep solely on LG, but I've only been prepping since May. Now I'm really trying to get LR and RC under control but LG can still cause plenty of problems, especially if I don't spend sufficient time on it.
I WISH LG was my problem area (not really, I don't want any problem areas lol) but seriously LG is the easiest to improve on. I think the LG Bible and 7 Sage is great for LG. I also went through the Nova book (only for the games) this was awhile back when I was prepping for December.

To answer your question: I was prepping for December and scoring only in the 160s ranging from mid to high when in November I had a horrible PT my score was I think a 157 or 158 or 155 (I cannot remember which), diagnostic was 162 or 163.. I went into major meltdown, I did one of the free tutoring sessions with Nicole Hopkins where she advised me to postpone to June. For the December test, I was rushing through the 7Sage curriculum and taking PT's. I decided to focus on the curriculum and really master it along with Cambridge drilling instead of trying to rush and take tests. I also consulted my friend who got a 175 currently at HLS, he told me just keep drilling the Cambridge packets and don't take PT's until you are ready, all the progress is made in doing the questions over and over. So, THIS TIME AROUND I am following his advice.. Really, really, REALLY hoping it will pay dividends.. Please God!! lol

Also, I just finished the Manhattan RC Guide. A lot of people on the 7Sage forums swear by the Trainer, but I have seen a huge difference with the Manhattan Guide. I will check out the Trainer on my heavy RC days but I think overall I'm going to go with what I learned in the MGuide. It's not just a book or process, but a complete revamping of the way you see RC passages and thinking regarding the RC.

Yeah, that's why I think doing the three in a two day period is good, good for keeping all three fresh in your mind. I also think I'm going to drill at least one game a day, I did a fresh copy of the dog (greyhound, labrador, male-female) game again last night lol.

BUT the time I put into the LSAT these last 5-6 months was not hard core it was probably a few hours every day so maybe 15-30 hours a week if even that. I only started being hardcore last week and the week before, whereas you probably have been hardcore since May, so there's that!

Sorry again for my novel, I tend to write a lot.. I blame the social sciences for that haha

I feel that books are overrated. The only thing that improved my score was repeated drilling.

So I just finished doing a set of the next 4 science passages from the Cambridge RC. Same as before two passages perfect score, -1 on one, and -2 on another! So actually this time my accuracy went up!! I'm happy about that, and think this proves drilling really makes it so! I would like to say this time it may be skewed because one of the passages I did in the Manhattan guide, but ironically I got the same exact question wrong. SO, I'm going to have to analyze the hell out of that question.. I also didn't spend much time comparing the two answer choices to the text like they recommend because I thought "oh this is the right answer!" For the last passage the one on rate of speciation, I had that in the Manhattan guide (they were doing this exercise where you don't understand the passage at all and took out huge chunks of the passage, and they have you figure out based on the text where to go with the questions). I got a perfect score on the passage which was really funny because when I did it in the guide I got 3 or 4 wrong. Ironically though I did not remember ANY of the answers or questions or text from that passage, so I'm counting it.

Also, has anyone done the passage on canaries and their repertoire of songs? It's PT 13, Section 3, Passage 1. I don't know how to do the "spoiler link" that many of you do, but I can't figure out one of the questions..

Couldn't agree more. I wish I had come to this realization a month and a half ago when I started studying.

If I could do it all over again, I think I would just do 7Sage + The LSAT Trainer. And drill, drill, drill. And then Practice test and BR my heart out.

Haha, the only book I have is the cambridge lr by type 21-40 packet. Other than that, I think the majority of improvement is just repetition and thorough reviewing.

I am hoping to see improvements by drilling. I think that will fit my learning style. I do have the Manhattan books, but I think the LR questions by type will really help me a lot. It's too bad that even used copies are kind of expensive now that the PDF packets aren't available. Oh well. I'm late to the game, and I think it will be worth it in the end.

Ahh ok gotcha! Thought that was an impressively early start for September! :P

That sounds like good advice. Thanks for sharing the wisdom! I'm sure that strategy will pay off. :D

I know what you mean about LG vs the other two. I saw a huge, quick improvement early on when I started figuring out what was up and getting the strategies down. Not so for LR or RC. :/

That's interesting about the MRC guide! I have to say none of the the text sources have really helped much for RC, not even the Trainer. I'll keep that on the horizon. :P

Finally finished the 100 Strengthening questions. 92/100 correct. 4 that I got right that I either took too long or wasn't super confident on.

I think I need to make sure my necessary sufficient language indicators are on point.

It's so crazy! My friend is supposed to leave for Turkey on a Fulbright next month, I sent her a snapshot of the NYTimes article.. I was doing a summer internship in Egypt in 2013 when the military coup happened.. It's like that madness all over again!!

I was considering applying for a Turkey Fulbright, but about 5 months ago I thought it was too unstable. Now... jeeze.

Damned it. I just got bumped out of the top 10 out of 1.1k vocab quiz takers on Testmasters. May need to get back in that. It irritates me irrationally for some reason.

Sbux is playing Girl from Ipanema... this stuffs my jam. Starting to try to work through passages a little quicker, as I realize that, untimed, I can go pretty much flawlessly. Basically, I am now working through them as I would on a test without a set time but tracking how long I take rather than what I was doing previously and eliminating every single wrong answer and noting any relevant reasons for eliminating or selecting an answer [i.e. line references]... I'll just review each passage after to make sure my answers were on point.

Seriously? What are you waiting for?

Now there's a charge.
Just kidding ... it's still FREE!
