Well here's another motive to go 174+, forget Kaplan.
They presently only have openings in Boston, Gainesville, NYC, and Toronto for 3-6 hrs/week

PT 77

LR 1: 0
LR 3: -3
LG: -2
RC: -1
Not sure what score I get.

Experimentals:
PT 12.4 (LR): -2
LT 13.1 (LG): 0

Not too happy with these mistakes.
- LR: Lost focus and was distracted by the time I reached second LR (6th section): 2 mistakes were because I hesitated and did not blacken the answer sheet (they turned out to be correct). 1 mistake was a careless mistake because of over-inference; same case with 1 of the mistakes on the experimental LR section. Pretty bummed because MBT and MSS used to be my preferred question types.
- RC: RC may have been easier in large part because of the harder LG. Still needs work because I missed the question during timed test and BR.
- LG: Not happy at all. Both mistakes could have been prevented if I had read the questions and ACs correctly.

You can usually throw your answers into Blueprint and it'll give you your score, your likely score range, what your likelihood of getting into a school based on that score and your GPA would be, and what categories you had difficulty with. It's free, too. I think 77 is up there already!

When, if ever, did you guys look at the writing section prior to exam day. I'm assuming I should at least start looking at them in case i'm in the 1% whose writing sample actually gets read by admissions.

I've heard its similar to the GRE writing sample. You're presented with 2 sides, pick one and argue for it.

I talked to a T14 alum who worked in his school's admissions office. He said they check that you did it and that you can make sentences.

I took PT 77 today as well:

RC: -2
LR1: -2
LG: -4
LR2: -0

173

I feel the same way about LG. Game 3 tripped me up at first and I made two careless mistakes.

If you are curious, your score is 176. I'm jealous. Great work!

Don't worry about it at all. If you are capable of forming/writing semi-coherent thoughts it's a breeze. Besides, we get 0 feedback on what is considered 'good' or 'bad' when it comes to the writing section, so there is really no way to prepare for it either.

I look at the writing section as I flip right by it on my way to check the answers for my PTs.

God damn it I knew this would happen. Going off two straight 177s too...

PT 68

RC -9 (SHIIIIIT the third and fourth passages ate my lunch)
LR1 -0
LR2 -2
LG -3

168

I guess I just didn't get the third one at all and I had only 6-7 minutes to to the last comparative reading one. I'm seriously freaked out because I usually go from -2 to -5 in RC. Goddamn it. Hope it's just an outlier and not the beginning of an RC collapse otherwise I'll have to postpone.

Just as I was getting cocky and pumped up after my hot streak, telling myself I'm ready....

I looked at the writing sample the day before my first take for about 15 mins and thought it was a big waste of time. I would say you shouldn't really do them for practice because it really is just on the spot common sense thinking and writing.

Just be familiar with what it is, just like you said, they give two sides and you pick 1 and argue why that one over the other.

Yeah, thanks. I know I shouldn't be overly concerned. It was an outlier and I swear that damn Pin Factory passage was the hardest RC I have ever seen. The questions were just so indirect... Gonna cool off and review the entire section tonight, then do some RC drilling (which I almost never do) to get my confidence back up tomorrow.

The sample writing prompts are at the end of each PT, look at some of the topics if you're curious, but it's not worth the time to actually practice anything.
