I just finished grading it with 7sage (so I could know my score but preserve some semblance of a blind review this evening). Got a 170, which, quite frankly, is way better than I thought I'd get. It felt like a best case 165er.
Between workpieces and medical equipoise, my rectum was violated by LSAC and I'd assume most my misses are clustered there. On the bright side though, my undergrad minor in Econ and my MBA are coming in handy. The flat tax passage everyone bitches about wasn't that bad for me. So, I'm hoping there are 3 esoteric econ/tax/finance passages next Monday. Sorry, not sorry.
Anyway, will edit with section-by-section breakdown after I do blind review this evening. Going to go regain my composure, binge watch some Arrested Development on Netflix, and start on Pretzel's recommended white-wine regimen so I can have a betchy blind review sesh this evening.

I knew a couple people who took this test IRL and it really fucked them IRL. Let's pray next week's isn't like this.ponderingmeerkat wrote:OK...prep test 72. Holy fuckballs batman.

definitely skip if a hard game or question if it's taking too long. i guess doing things like questions in reverse order or q15-26 first and q1-14 at the end in lr isn't productive. some people for RC do have a predetermined order of doing passages or saving the one with the least questions for last, but i am really not sure how it ends up helping them as long as they do complete all the questions. i think if they really tried to do passages in the given order, they would actually end up scoring similar, but there is likely no way to test this.R. Jeeves wrote:Skipping a particularly hard LG section or RC question once you gauge it as such can be good strategy. I can't see how it would be useful to just do every section backwards.appind wrote:agree with ponderingmkat about the futility of working backwards or trying different orderings. such gimmicks really don't work with lsat.ponderingmeerkat wrote:Nah dude. With my luck, I'll be blindsided by one of the weird(er) logic games as game four in section five. *Knocks on wood*
What I eventually figured out is if you're a top 5% or top 10% test taker, it's perfectly reasonable to expect to to finish each section within time and without gimmicky/confusing re-ordering. Have the confidence that, if you're scoring anywhere close to 165+, the whole test is written for people like you. This knowledge and confidence will allow you to relax, focus and try to get into a "flow" with the questions. Jumping around only slows you down and breaks your flow.
the only point on which i will disagree with is about time not being an issue for 5-10% of lsat takers. even 5% is like 167 and timing remains an issue for plenty of takers much above that score range i think.

Re: The Official June 2016 Study Group
I ended up doing RC backwards (4th passage then the 3rd, etc). Probably didn't make a huge difference, but my reasoning for it was:
1) RC is IMO the most mentally draining session, and so I was able to be at my very best for the tougher passages.
2) RC sometimes took me right down to the wire, timing wise. If it did, I was glad to be running out of time on an easier passage.
But really, I agree with what was said regarding timing not being an issue at a certain point. A vast majority of the time, I would finish RC with 5 minutes to go and so I could go back and check my work. Going backwards was more of a safeguard than anything else.

And to give a slightly different perspective from what SomethingElse said...the reason I don't do hard passages first is my mind is like a diesel engine. It needs a warm up. But once it gets going, I start to hit my stride or feeling a sense of flow and I start to churn through passages better. So, the fact passage 1 is (typically) easier is a good thing for me. Different minds work differently I guess.

True, but I also warmed up pretty extensively before each LSAT (both directly doing questions/passages/games as well as other shit).

3 sudoku/similar-type puzzles
Read some of my denser-than-LSAT-shit book
Meditate
10-15 LR
2 RC passages
2 LGs
That would be for a 830 am test. For June I would just like sleep in way more and do all that shit plus probably shoot hoops for 30 min or so between the breakfast and coffee and all the other stuff.

Well definitely don't read through the whole thread, that's for sure. Lately though there haven't been because some others are just starting up so we haven't been spoiling. Just start reading the OP and find the intro quiz (it is like 3 questions) and then use that/introduce yourself!pretzeltime wrote:Aren't there mad spoilers there?somethingElse wrote:pretzeltime wrote:somethingElse wrote:OMGpretzeltime wrote:Babe you're gonna be so proud of mesomethingElse wrote:

I read Infinite Jest. Really good book actually and definitely denser than LSAT. You could also try reading Critique of Pure Reason by Kant, but that's translated into english and so while it is definitely very dense in its own right, part of that comes from being translated. There's also Gravity's Rainbow which is VERY dense - much denser than Infinite Jest. You could also just try Googling like "super dense books" or something like that and pick one that seems interesting to you. You can't really go wrong as long as it's significantly denser than RC passages.jagerbom79 wrote:What are some of your "denser-than-LSAT-shit book" you recommend?somethingElse wrote:Breakfast + CoffeeSonicHell wrote:What was your warm-up routine? Capital by Piketty for Econ.jagerbom79 wrote: What are some of your "denser-than-LSAT-shit book" you recommend?
For novels: of course, Ulysses if you can stomach a little "stream of consciousness". Or Cloud Atlas (love that book)...seriously amazing novel. Most relevant is one subplot that uses a lot of "near-english" future-speak intended to simulate divergent linguistic evolution that's heavily phonetic and challenging. Good prep for !Kung-type passages, haha.
Another two modernist novels that prep for something unique would be Jennifer Egan's A Visit From the Goon Squad (the last couple chapters have equally inaccessible dialogue) and, for a real trip, House of Leaves by Danielewski.
I'm a huge book nerd.

Think I'll just do a section a day until test day, with some review afterward. I have PT 76 in reserve but I figure there isn't much to be gained from taking it and I'm better off saving it for a retake if needed. This way I can relax while keeping my brain in the test.
