Geez, im guessing they base solely off the previous years income but that would suck because i was employed last year.

Have not been employed at a paying job for several years. Self employed= basically unemployed but with more work

Pretty sure it was the retirement account since that's the only money I have.

So there's really no way to get a fee waiver if there's no LSAT on record? I suppose it would be stupid to wait for waivers once we get our December scores to apply this cycle?

i got waivers before i had a score. off the top of my head, uva will prob give you one.

What did you write in your email? GPA and LSAC#?

Also, what optional or 'why x' statements are people writing? I'm planning on Duke, Penn, UVA, and I'm not exactly sure where else it would be useful.

I would recommend Michigan and NU (NU's is short, though). Also, make sure you read Penn's prompt before you start writing-it's not quite a straight "Why Penn."

I think I mentioned this before but last cycle I applied pretty late and still got a couple decent offers. I don't think there would be much harm in applying in January and seeing what type of offers you get. If it ends up not working out, you can wait for next cycle and try again. You might have to pay twice for some application fees but, if you're willing to take on that risk, I don't see why you shouldn't try in January. I could, of course, be horribly wrong but, I'm sure that if I am, someone will point it out soon enough.

I have basically no interest in going to either of those schools. Should I still do it for scholarship negotiation purposes?

I don't think the disadvantage of applying in January is that bad (esp. considering the drop in applications this year.)
