Yes ! Just want to second that . How do you alert schools that your score has increased in a respectful mannerAbbeyS wrote:Oh thanks. That's good news. How/when should I write this email? I don't wanna say the wrong thing or send it too early/lateGFox345 wrote:I am speaking from experience when I say this. I took for the first time in October 2015, was accepted with that score, retook in December and did 2 points better, and my scholarship more than doubled. Keep in mind that it was a critical 2 points because it took me from below the school's median to its 75th, but based on this alone 4 points is definitely enough for more money unless you're already way above the median or still way below even with the added points.AbbeyS wrote:What exactly do I say to the schools I'm already accepted to if I'm trying to bargain for more scholarship money? Email them! Don't you want them to know your score is now x+4 versus x?

I can't really say here, as it would not be fair to my clients -- this is something we do together as part of the process. apologies for that, when I hit the lotto it is free advice for everyone about everythingAbbeyS wrote:What exactly do I say to the schools I'm already accepted to if I'm trying to bargain for more scholarship money? But do let every school know -- this is valuable information to them, even (maybe especially in some cases) the ones you have already been admitted to.
One last piece of advice, I would not recommend crafting scholarship emails together publicly on here. I'd do it over PM or some other private platform.

It doesn't seem particularly nuanced. Just a notification of the score being received. Let them know of other financial offers, tell them you're financially conscious/are poor/have undergrad debt/have a family to support.MikeSpivey wrote:I can't really say here, as it would not be fair to my clients -- this is something we do together as part of the process. apologies for that, when I hit the lotto it is free advice for everyone about everythingAbbeyS wrote:

Send an updated resume and let them know of fall grades if they exist but weren't included in your original app.
Basically give them relevant information. And state your position.

I would definitely defer to Spivey's advice on this one. In my case, the school (to which I was already admitted ED and offered a scholarship and paid my enrollment deposit) simply updated my scholarship offer without me even so much as emailing them. The caveat is that I told them that I was going to be retaking and asked specifically if I had any chance at increased merit aid as an ED admit. Of course I planned to notify them, but they were so quick that I never even had the chance.MikeSpivey wrote:I can't really say here, as it would not be fair to my clients -- this is something we do together as part of the process. apologies for that, when I hit the lotto it is free advice for everyone about everythingAbbeyS wrote:What exactly do I say to the schools I'm already accepted to if I'm trying to bargain for more scholarship money? I know you guys aren't doing anything else so you should come ITT and guess this year's USNWR rankings: http://top-law-schools.com/forums/viewt ... 2&t=260700
There are prizes (assuming you've got over 100 posts, though everyone can play). Fourth year we've done it, starting back when I was applying to LS.
Deadline for entries is March 8th at 11:59 PM. Spivey ~may~ have the rankings on the 9th (way ahead of the actual release date).
