Re: The Official June 2017 Study Group
Hi,
I am feeling very conflicted about whether I should postpone. Any advice/intuitions would be GREATLY appreciated:
Just took practice test and with one month left am scoring 160. I need at least 165 to feel ok applying.
On GREs I got 98 percentile RC 78 percentile math 99 percentile writing
On lsat, have been mostly studying logic games (-14 on baseline, nowadays -5 through -9, most often -7).
RC -4 on average, LR -6 -7 ish depending? havent focused much on LR or RC in terms of studying though
should mention i've started studying mid to end march. it's been hard to balance cuz am in a phd program at the same time. but this is irrelevant. but potentially a bit more free time during the summer since I don't have classes then.
Is it possible to considerably improve in a month or is this unlikely? Apologies if this has been asked before, but I would really appreciate some input if anyone has any suggestions or personal experience with this type of situation.
Thanks so much

I'd say go for September. You just have to take that LG down to 0 and you are alright. You can do that in 2 months of regular exercise following 7sage tips and videos. Guaranteed. Work on that, and you are on a 165!poi543 wrote:Hi,

Yeah I probably should shoot higher than 165 too. school I'm looking at median score is 168. I'm not sure if -0 on LG can happen (again, baseline was -14 lol). LR and RC more confident in, since I've done very minimal studying for those and doing ok...I loveeeee RC so maybe can try and bring that one downInterLaw wrote:poi543 wrote: I'd say go for September. if it means anything, I got like basically no LG questions right on my diagnostic and I can easily go -0/-1 on LG now. It's the easiest section to learn, it's not that bad once you learn the different game boards! Something that may prevent you from -0'ing the section on test day is a weird game, but even then you should still have an idea of how to approach weird games if one shows up.poi543 wrote:I'm not sure if -0 on LG can happen (again, baseline was -14 lol).
Put in the work, and it will pay off, trust me!

Re: The Official June 2017 Study Group
I'd say definitely postpone and don't sell yourself short. 3 months of studying while in a phd program probably isn't enough to get you to where you'd like to ideally be. You could get to a 165 in the next month but why not take the extra time and really get it down and hit 170, you're losing nothing and potentially gaining a lot ($$$) by waiting until September.poi543 wrote:Hi,

You really don't have enough time for June, I started in January and I'm just starting to score where I'm comfortable.poi543 wrote:Yeah I probably should shoot higher than 165 too. school I'm looking at median score is 168. Also, the goal should always be 180.

Does your school where you are doing your phd have a law school? You may want to check out if they have a JD/PhD. If so it, may be possible to apply even if you are already in the PhD program and to complete both degrees sooner than doing them separately.

Re: The Official June 2017 Study Group
Does anyone else seem to always do worst on your first "reading" section of a PT, regardless of whether its in LR or RC, or of its difficulty rating on 7sage? Over my last several PTs I've noticed my first section is always my worst, scoring -3 to -5 in LR or -5+ in RC, but the other three non LG sections end up being much lower. I've also noticed that this applies to doing timed sections as well, the first one I do in a day is always my worst.
Any suggestions on how to combat this? Its almost like I need a warm up section before I start scoring at my best. I really noticed this today when I collectively scored PT 58 which I divided up into individual sections that I completed throughout the last couple weeks that were taken before I did anything else, had -4 and -5 on LR and -5 on RC, which combined with my -1 on games gives me a 167 (ew). These LR sections in particular are really high for me, and its frustrating to see any kind of slip here while I'm finally picking up ground in games.

This is common and yes TCR is to do a warm up. If you're going to PT it's good to do a couple passage, a couple games, and like 10 LRsSlippin' Jimmy wrote:Does anyone else seem to always do worst on your first "reading" section of a PT, regardless of whether its in LR or RC, or of its difficulty rating on 7sage? Re: The Official June 2017 Study Group
Took sections from PT 50 over the week this week. Felt like I had crushed it but the curve tells me otherwise... Maybe a lot of my recent PTs have had a really big curve:
PT 50: 172
LR1: -3
LR2: -2
LG: 0
RC: -3
I know I should be feeling good about being in the 170s but I can't help feeling a bit bad that they aren't higher. At least there is a month left to go...

Thank you all so much for your input, i really really appreciate it, you have no idea how helpful this is. No one i know is law track, so it's been a bit difficult to find good sources of input. I will put off til September, and drill into LG and LR more.
Yep it does! I'm applying to the dual program at the school i'm currently doing phd in. I was hoping they would be more lenient on LSAT scores because of this, but this is likely wishful thinking, as their average scores are in the 170s for admitted... blahDoes your school where you are doing your phd have a law school? Should you postpone the exam? Barring any extenuating circumstances that prevent you from taking it in September, absolutely.
It is better to walk into the test wanting a 165 and PTing at 168 than it is to want a 165 and be PTing at 165 the day of.
