So I've recently experienced a revelation in my studies but am still in dire need of advice

RC has been by far the bane of my LSAT experience.

I decided to throw caution to the wind about 2 weeks ago and just speed through my initial read. Instead of a bunch of underlining, boxing and writing in the margins I elected to just underline the conclusion statements, then bracket and arrow the supporting evidence to them.

By doing this and just skipping the really lengthy questions, I've gone from averaging between -8 and -10 to -4 to -6 on my RC sections.

If I can consistently stay under -2 LG, I've got a real shot of finally averaging in the mid to high 160s (though I've set the bar for myself a bit higher)

Does anyone have any relevant advice on RC so I can get as close to -0 as possible? I'm focusing on getting my initial read under 2m 30s by drilling, which would give me about an extra minute per passage, but there is still the problem of tackling the lengthy problems without losing too much time. Any advice would be appreciated.

Love the homage to Bird... I definitely agree with your strategy. As soon as I stopped marking up RC and just read it, quickly, straight through, I went from -5, -7 to -2, -1.

I have a 3.9+ GPA so I'm shooting for the best I can do. I'm also just starting classes now- 15 credit hours- and its not an insufferable amount of work but it s another distraction. Should I sit for September or postpone? What do you guys think?

You typically score lower than your PT average in the real test, so consider that. If you want a high 160s, don't take when your average is low 160s.

Average PT makes me competitive in T14, but I really want to stay in my region.

Duke is my target, but my average PT (173. makes me competitive for everything but Yale and Stanford (excluding YPs). So if that happens, I'd gun largely for the best COA. But the specifics are something I'll debate once I get my score back. I'll definitely be posting in the "Choosing" subtopic here when the time comes.

I will qualify for max need-based aid, so Stanford is my top school, but seeing as HLS has relatively predictable admissions process I am really gunning for a 173. Outside of HYS I think UVa is on top of the list. Will retake anything lower than a 171. I don't ever think about Yale. I will just apply and see what the black box spits out.
