People with Law degrees go on to become CEOs/investment bankers/journalist etc. No one knows where the hell they are going to be in 10+yrs. As much as I want to be a lawyer right now that does not mean that I'm not going to not want to be a lawyer in 5+ yrs.

People burn out, they get tired of law or some other random unpredictable shit, having a law degree and opting out of law should not be considered an embarrassment without factoring in other considerations.

Forgive my rant people but 0L telling other 0L about the law annoys me. Can we just like focus on the LSAT and other LSAT related shit ITT (weight gain, stress and other random fun shit) and leave the "I know more about law and law school than you" for the other threads.

Yes, they can be. But having a JD is in no way sufficient or necessary for these positions. Its correlation rather than causation.

Going to law school for any reason other than wanting to be a lawyer is dumb.

Somehow, having a gym membership made me go way more than having a gym in my building, but that's because the machines are just average. All I want is a stair climber. That's all I want. (I looked into buying one and then remembered I'm poor).

ETA: I guess I'll just be a peasant and run up real stairs. Bleh.

lets play nice now... no need to start being mean. Yes things could happen down the road where you could get a job in another field with great pay and you decide to do so... but ATM that is not the case. What is being said is you shouldnt go to law school bc you plan on such a situation happening. No one is saying you will be a practicing lawyer foreverrrrrr(though you should currently be expecting to be working in law throughout your post-school working career)

I actually agree with Drigio, if you want to be a investment banker then fucking do CFA, if you want to be a CEO then get a Harvard business degree. But opting out of law after a number of years should not be considered an embarrassment. That is my point!

Yea I think the issue is that you were responding to arguments never made.

If you decide to change the careers down the road it happens.

But if you are k-JD with no work experience and a JD looking for a career in a non legal field thats a different thing entirely

I think that you think that you knw what your talking about but you don't. But anyways let us make a long story short. I agree with you. Go to law school if you want to be a lawyer but keep your options open, research alternative option\careers and be open minded.

Wanting to be a lawyer and going to law school does not mean that your actually going to be a lawyer as drigio rightly said maybe the market has no space for you and your going to find yourself in a bad situation.

Thinking about using a law degree in an unconventional way should not be considered "boomer thinking" it's a reality, for some people it's a choice for others it's a means to an end.

Also, I'm not the one arguing against something that was never said. Someone in the thread said that people use law degree is unconvential ways and Mr. D went in on what he thinks people should or should not do and what he considers boomer thinking.

Going to law school with the dream of being a lawyer is no more a pipe dream than going to law school thinking that your can one day be a CEO. I think it's smart thinking given the market, you are realistic that law may not work out so you keep other options in mind' there is no embarrassment in that. Maybe those people you know are embarrassed because they were closed minded.

I have a friend who struck out and was median at a t14. He's looked for non legal jobs to no avail bc they see that you have a law degree and arent practicing so it raises red flags.
