A good friend of mine is getting married today, and I'm thankful that'll have an open bar to celebrate/drown my sorrows with in the event the day is indeed grey.

They never stop. You'll get their emails after you unsubscribe. You'll get their emails after you graduate law school. You'll get their emails even if you delete your email account. The day of your funeral you'll have an email from Thomas Jefferson saying "still accepting applications for Fall 2089!"rowdy wrote:Do you think they stop if you get a high enough score? Since we talk about drinking a lot, and since we take an interest in the law, does your state have any alcohol laws that you find ridiculous? Virginia has plenty, for example bars have to have something like 45% of their revenue come from food sales.

I would love it if other drugs had similar laws.MediocreAtBest wrote:Since we talk about drinking a lot, and since we take an interest in the law, does your state have any alcohol laws that you find ridiculous? Grocery stores can't carry cigarettes.
Weed stores must close on Sundays.
You can't sell energy drinks after 2AM.

I'm assuming a lot of states are like this, but laws prohibiting drinking in public are so dumb. What is the point? At least if you walk around the park with a bottle of vodka in your hand, people know to avoid you (or make friends, whatever).

All our liquor stores are state owned. It takes 10-15 years for someone to get a new liquor license for a bar or restaurant. However, they can be purchased for roughly 200k.
No hard liquor sold between 2am and 10am. Beer and wine can be sold at 6 am.
At this point we are just happy we're not Utah.
I have mixed feelings about public drinking. You don't want public drunkenness, but why shouldn't I be able to pop a bottle of rosé for a picnic at the park?

I'm not advocating for public drunkenness, but laws that are easily circumvented and don't really protect anyone shouldn't be laws. I can still pour the vodka into a water bottle and get hammered anywhere I want. As Va. law stands now, you can't even have a beer in your front yard (unless of course you pour it into a solo cup). It's just dumb.DorkothyParker wrote:All our liquor stores are state owned. It takes 10-15 years for someone to get a new liquor license for a bar or restaurant. There are certainly a lot of gray spaces when it comes to tailgating during football season as well.
It just makes me feel shifty to put beer in my Dutch Bros cup before going to the park. Not that I would.
As a side, suppose if Martin Shkreli is convicted, a judge could force him to release the Wu-Tang album? I've seen weirder sentencing and the world is just suffering.

Re: June 2017 Waiters Thread- Dowsing for gray
I live in the state with arguably the worst liquor laws due to the uber powerful liquor store lobby. The laws are blatantly there to protect liquor stores, and nothing else. No Sunday sales of any kind really, groceries must have pharmacies in order to sell liquor, no cold beer can be sold outside of liquor stores and restaurants. Our convenience stores really hate it. Probably outing my location, but we just had a high profile situation where a gas station chain found a loophole where they could sell cold carry out by opening a restaurant. The state enacted a law that made it so that 90% of revenue had to be through food and/or liquor sales. Gas stations sell too much gas to ever hit this requirementMediocreAtBest wrote:Since we talk about drinking a lot, and since we take an interest in the law, does your state have any alcohol laws that you find ridiculous? What is on y'all's "waiting for scores" playlist? I have the new Vic Mensa heavy in the rotation right now.
