You are correct. Unless I scored terribly and need to retake, since the October and December dates don't jive with my schedule.benwyatt wrote:I'm assuming most people in this thread are applying for fall 2016, right?

I am, unless my score sucks, then I will take the gre and get a mpa. then retake and my undergrad GPA will be higher when I graduate so it might be a better path but I would prefer to go straight through.benwyatt wrote:I'm assuming most people in this thread are applying for fall 2016, right?

Re: The Official June 2015 Waiter's Thread
I have considering doing a dual program anyway, but If I cant get into a great law school it doesn't make sense to go, and if I did them separately it would add to my law school application. I want to get an MPA because I am interested in going into politics later in life, and I am somewhat of an academic, I have considered pursuing being an undergrad professor or law professor at some point and getting an mpa would give me opportunity to get some publishable work.benwyatt wrote:http://images.akamai.steamusercontent.c ... 1FCBE26EB/[/img]cdotson2 wrote:I am, unless my score sucks, then I will take the gre and get a mpa. then retake and my undergrad GPA will be higher when I graduate so it might be a better path but I would prefer to go straight through.benwyatt wrote:I'm assuming most people in this thread are applying for fall 2016, right?

Well, maybe you want to do public interest law of sorts, or maybe whoever is getting an MPA just wants to get one cuz it sounds fun. I'm planning to do a masters in political science as well as a JD. Will it help me as a lawyer? No, not directly. Will it be fun and super interesting? Yeah, most likely.buckiguy_sucks wrote:How would an MPA benefit you as a lawyerbenwyatt wrote:[img]http://images.akamai.steamusercontent.c ... 1FCBE26EB/cdotson2 wrote:I am, unless my score sucks, then I will take the gre and get a mpa. then retake and my undergrad GPA will be higher when I graduate so it might be a better path but I would prefer to go straight through.benwyatt wrote:I'm assuming most people in this thread are applying for fall 2016, right?

I hope there is some benefit since that's what I am doing now because my work pays for it (and I decided to do it before I knew I wanted to go to law school).buckiguy_sucks wrote:

Of course it all depends on what you want to do with your JD, but it's something to keep in mind.

There's actually information out there that says getting a dual degree can actually hurt you in legal markets because you look like more of a flight risk to firms.

For cereal? Interesting. I can see that. However, I want to start in public defense for a while before eventually doing other government legal work. Ideally, but I realize how unlikely this will be, I'd like to be a federal judge or work in the SG's office. That's the kind of work that interests me. I don't ever want to do biglaw.

My official unofficial plan is to make a career at one of the V5 firms, make partner and retire making at least a mill a year in a spacious New York Penthouse with my own yacht to travel the world in and possibly buy myself a cyborg body so I can live forever.
Wish me luck!

I might join ya'll after I spend my first 10 years in the big boy firms (unless I make equity partner). I know for sure I want to secure that paycheck and pay off all debt and buy a house and have bills payed for at least a year in advanced before switching over to a more comfortable field, like in-house, litigation, or public sector.
