Voted for Other in the poll - cos I'm gonna go to the world-class institution that is the soon-to-be-resurrected Indiana Tech law

the numbers in the last post are absurd.. 500sqft vs 450sqft @ 2000/1900 a month. Fuck. That. I thought Chicago was bad right at navy pier near NU.. but those are only like 1300$ for 500sqft.Alexandros wrote:The torture thread: http://www.top-law-schools.com/forums/v ... &start=200

Maybe not better priced but you get kinda what you pay for unlike nyc where you pay 2g for a closet.Alexandros wrote:SLS has got better priced housing options than the NYC schools or Cambridge imo.TWiiX wrote:the numbers in the last post are absurd.. 500sqft vs 450sqft @ 2000/1900 a month. Yeah I just mean the lowest priced options looked like a better bang for your buck. you'd have roommates but $795 isn't bad for an apartment. H's gropius or whatever is $800 and something and you're stuck in a dorm room. don't recall if the NYC schools have cheaper options but I seem to recall everything was pretty steep.dj9i27 wrote:Maybe not better priced but you get kinda what you pay for unlike nyc where you pay 2g for a closet.Alexandros wrote:SLS has got better priced housing options than the NYC schools or Cambridge imo.TWiiX wrote:the numbers in the last post are absurd.. 500sqft vs 450sqft @ 2000/1900 a month. The 36% chance I pull S, most likely I won't get much aid so I'd probably just pay the extra grand a month to live at munger in a 1/1. Munger seems to be the best law school housing I've seen so far. CLS was about on par with SLS housing prices but way smaller.Alexandros wrote:Yeah I just mean the lowest priced options looked like a better bang for your buck. you'd have roommates but $795 isn't bad for an apartment. Yeah I'd wanna keep costs down if no $$$ but wouldn't wanna take a hit on lifestyle things. You thought about getting RA/TA work? Small $$ that doesn't affect your aid package if you have one and good for academia gunnering.dj9i27 wrote:The 36% chance I pull S, most likely I won't get much aid so I'd probably just pay the extra grand a month to live at munger in a 1/1. I was thinking valet or lsat tutor. something less than 20 hours a week but can fetch 1500 (valets and tips tho).Alexandros wrote:Yeah I'd wanna keep costs down if no $$$ but wouldn't wanna take a hit on lifestyle things. I would love to work valet in a super nice part of the country (SV/NYC/Chi). Get paid a ton of money to be given the chance to drive ridiculously expensive cars that we will never afford with all the debt we will be buried in. Sign meup.

Yeah, it's understandable that it reduces aid, but it sucks. Certainly would be nice if your SA money didn't replace your aid, that's for sure. I wonder how much in savings = no or almost no aid. I'll have to look it up at some point.Alexandros wrote:ah yeah that would bring in some cash. I'm holding out the hope that I'll get aid if HYS and anything like that / anything except RA stuff would reduce it dollar for dollar i think which is shitty.dj9i27 wrote:

In a little hoedown town a friend makes 700 on a good day in tips from being a valet (he goes to med school as well). Palo Alto, Cambridge or NYC must pay out the wazooTWiiX wrote:I would love to work valet in a super nice part of the country (SV/NYC/Chi). Okay, cheers. That makes sense. I'm assuming there are things they can't touch like retirement savings, eh?Alexandros wrote:Basically all of your savings aside from an emergency fund of like a few hundred will be expected to go to CoA. I dunno how Y and S work (they dont say) but HLS expects you to take loans of 48k out each year. The difference in 48k*3 and the total CoA will be (or will be expected to be) made up of some combo of your savings, parental aid, and financial aid. If it's all the first two, no aid.oopsu812 wrote:Yeah, it's understandable that it reduces aid, but it sucks. Certainly would be nice if your SA money didn't replace your aid, that's for sure.
