Re: December 2013 LSAT Waiting Thread
True story, I'm kind of glad I made the choice to go to law school after having experienced what its like to have a career and mortgage payment. Or any bills in general for that matter. I was naive when I was in UG, who knows where I would have ended up.bee wrote:these are people who dont know what its like to actually have to pay back loans. its fucking horrible.dosto wrote:Oh man, I had people drop this on me when I was struggling to make ends meet in UG with fee increases. "Just take out more loans, they'll always give you more loans." I just figured they had never really been deep in debt, or didn't really know how it worked.rebexness wrote: Yep. These were both smart people. I talked with out about applying a few years ago, and she was like "oh they'll give you lots of loans- as much as you need".

Re: December 2013 LSAT Waiting Thread
Yeah, I definitely agree. In the beginning I had a real bit of shock when it sunk it. For whatever reason it was easier to ignore the loans when I was still in school. I really cracked down these past few years though and was able to get rid of the vast majority of them, but it wasn't easy. My phone from 2001 attests to that, dosto wrote:Mine are kicking my ass. At this point I don't even bother to look at total balance and just see it as another bill to pay. Can get demoralizing when you actually stop to think about it.Nonconsecutive wrote:So very much this. Re: December 2013 LSAT Waiting Thread
In the case that I get a better score than last time, I'll be trying my luck in some of the lower t-14 as well as vandy, ut, ucla, usc, and maybe gw, bu and bc. In the case of a lower score, I might sit out another year and just not apply this cycle at all. Hoping that doesn't happen but, we'll see.Austinbound wrote:Where is everyone applying once we get our scores?
I believe some of you were talking about this a few pages ago but I don't remember. Is it typically frowned upon to ask law schools for application fee waivers if they don't automatically give you one? I'm considering it especially for those schools which I already applied to last cycle but, I wouldn't want to hurt my chance of getting admitted because of something like that. Am I just overthinking this?

Definitely NOT frowned upon. The worst they can say is "No".
Go for it! Might want to make a template letter so you can send to each school when you get your scores.

Re: December 2013 LSAT Waiting Thread
I'm thinking about not applying to schools outside of the T14. Is there really any reason to when I like my odds at getting T14 acceptances? The job prospects for NYC/DC/Chi biglaw aren't great coming from the T20s, right? And T14 schools don't really negotiate off T20s from what I can tell. Plus, I don't want to live in the south or try my luck at USC/UCLA w/o ties.

You can definitely cop a couple or more bottom half of the T14 acceptances. You're name suggests that you might be more interested in UT w/ $$, though.Austinbound wrote:3.3/170. Re: December 2013 LSAT Waiting Thread
That's actually not too bad. If you get a few more points on the LSAT, you'd be competitive for a lot of the T14. Here are some schools and their GPA floors. Obviously the closer you are to the GPA floor, the higher you want your LSAT to be.Austinbound wrote:3.3/170.
