You should make a poll about it! ZINGtheugg wrote:I am prepared to take up arms to defend my right as a free citizen of this thread to vote in polls as chosen democratically by the people.

Going off "hoot and a half"
I was recently surprised to learn in my translation course that the idiom "dead as a doornail" is no longer considered relevant or in general use. Do we agree? I use it relatively regularly.

LOL . I wish I could do what you're suggesting but it'll kill me unless I see that score start with a 16...fips tedora wrote:I am staunchly opposed to studying again, so I am going to accept this score, whatever the outcome.flash21 wrote:if I have to study again I'll cry.
Also as a second timer, I know how annoying it is having that sub par score hanging above your head

The obvious solution is a moderate speaker elected with Dem support. But the R primary electorate will never tolerate it.SirArthurDayne wrote:Going back to our politics discussion from a few days ago, what do you guys think about McCarthy announcing he won't seek the speakership? Yep. Although it sounds like Ryan might prefer to stay chair of Ways and Means for now.theugg wrote:I blame the potential affair scandal.SirArthurDayne wrote:Going back to our politics discussion from a few days ago, what do you guys think about McCarthy announcing he won't seek the speakership? Watching CNN at work and of course this is all their covering. He's definitely being pressured, but just a week ago he said absolutely not. It'll be interesting to see what happens.SirArthurDayne wrote:Going back to our politics discussion from a few days ago, what do you guys think about McCarthy announcing he won't seek the speakership? He also said No (through a spokesman) again this morning FWIW.mist4bison wrote:Watching CNN at work and of course this is all their covering. Re: The Official October Waiter's Oasis
The very reasons he's being pressured on it - national name recognition, wonky enough for the establishment while still Tea Party-adjacent - are the reasons his career would be killed by it. Maybe back when we respected the deal-cutting statesmen, but today primary voters aren't going to reward him for that. I'm guessing he's planning on staying just relevant enough until he challenges Baldwin for her Senate seat.theugg wrote:I wouldn't take it in a million years if I were Ryan. Re: The Official October Waiter's Oasis
I find the disloyalty of the Tea Party wing of the party in this somewhat fascinating. It seems like they tried to leverage their votes for Speaker in a very parliamentary fashion, and truly seemed to expect McCarthy would cave on their demands.SirArthurDayne wrote:I agree, Ryan is definitely considering a 2020 presidential bid if GOP doesn't secure the White House in 2016. I gotta say that it's really interesting how Republicans are so good at shooting themselves in the foot. All McCarthy had to do was lay low on saying anything stupid for 2 weeks and the job was his.
Seriously? What are you waiting for?
