Writing a normal PS is hard enough, now you want to make it school-specific? Ya'll are crazy.

Yeah, I'm worried it might be hard to "tell my story in a compelling way" and bring up a bunch of specific stuff about a school at the same time. I think the former is more important than the latter if it comes down to it.

I lean towards doing a separate PS and Why X. I think school specific PSs only work well if you can tie your goals and life story well to a school's selling point (i.e. if you have been wanting to do PI all your life then you can mix your PS and Why NYU perfectly). Anything short of that will be basically squeezing a paragraph of school specific stuff in the already tight two pages for your PS (and making it hard to structure it coherently), in which case you might be better off just writing a Why X.

Yeah, I'm definitely going to do a Why X regardless. It might not be hard to have a mildly school-specific slant in that you mention the name of the school a couple of times. But if it feels artificial or tacked on or impeding on the rest of the PS then I won't bother with it.

oh, you must have missed it. Duke matched my Michigan offer, which was awesome. Still fighting tooth and nail for a little more icing on the cake, though. I think the school is a perfect fit for me all around, and it's now my cheapest t13 option (sory UT, I cut you out)

Stanny has no preftige, they are on the wrong side of the bay. Hail Berk!

happy the Stanford love isn't UChicago love because that would make my decision so much harder if everyone was talking them up
