Yeah, they are. But are they #2?! Can these be used on the exam?

I was told they aren't. A poster who responded a few posts back says it doesn't matter.

I don't think I'm going to chance it.

ETA: I sent an email to Palomino (contact form on their website) asking if any of their pencils are #2, and that I'm looking for a pencil to use on a standardized test. I'll post if they respond.

For the most important exam of my life, I'm not going to chance it. Thanks for your response.

I like the Ticon blacks, but I'm keeping my eyes open for anything better before May. I'll need about a month and at least 10 PTs before I'm comfortable with a new pencil to use on game day.

Once I went Ticon black, I didn't go back.

What sharpeners is everyone using? and what kind of erasers?
my sharpener of choice
...in conjunction with magic rub erasers, though I don't erase much, only if I've made a mistake diagramming or something... even then I can see an argument for using one of those caps in the interest of saving a few seconds...

What do you do with the shavings?

This is my favorite sharpener so far: http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B002K9 ... UTF8&psc=1

I use one of those white polymers erasers. I also got white polymer eraser caps for my pencils for prepping, but used fresh pencils with their own erasers on test day (with the standalone white polymer eraser ready to go on the desk in case I needed mega-erasing).

I usually have a trash can nearby or make a mini-pile that I dispose of during my break/after the test. I'm aware that this might be a handicap I should eliminate prior to the actual test, but none of the sharpeners with compartments has really won me over, they seem to loosen the graphite or sharpen at too acute an angle or some such annoyance...

Your test-day eraser strategy is sound, I'll probably do the same.

I can't reiterate this point enough. Don't use a pencil on game day that you haven't extensively practiced with.

Don't worry man. I won't. It'd be the equivalent of:

-Slipping on new basketball shoes before game 7 of the NBA finals.
-Using a new tennis racket for your Wimbledon final.
-Using a new reed for your clarinet/saxophone in the biggest live symphony performance of your life.

I don't recommend doing any of these.

I don't know how I feel about that...

I'll probably buy one with a compartment. The mini-pile will drive me nuts. What if I accidentally cough and all that shit goes everywhere?

With that said, my sharpener sucks. Does anyone know which sharpener is best? It absolutely HAS to have a compartment for the shavings.

They are sick bro. It looks like we both have weak eraser game though. It's also cool that we are currently testing in the same book too.

I'll probably use them on the LSAT if they end up being my favorite to use for PTs because I don't think bubble sheets care if they're labeled as long as they're dark enough, but don't use them if not having a number is going to bother you on the test. Palomino's pencils made in USA like Golden Bear are graded #2, and the Japanese pencils like these (LinkRemoved) are graded HB (international #2). My Ticonderogas and Tri-conderogas are labeled with both #2 and HB.

It's the pencil sharpener that my ex gave me...which is actually the only pencil sharpener that I have.

My only regret during my LSAT prep was that I didn't take the time to purchase quality pencils for my first take. I only realized this after receiving my second score and putting two and two together.

Sorry for the testimonial, I just really appreciate the work that is being done ITT for future test takers.

The triconderogas appear to hold the best point, but the grip is uncomfortable. I love the grip of the black warriors the best, but it is hard to keep the point on it. It dulls fast. The traditional Ticonderoga appears to be the happy median between the two. I think I need to do more research with the Black Warriors though. I'm thinking if I can step my sharpener game up, it has the potentenial to become my favorite.

I can't wait to buy some black ticonderogas and compare them to my current arsenal.

Seriously? What are you waiting for?

Now there's a charge.
