I'm in for June. I start studying today. Finished undergrad in May 2010, looking to start law school Fall 2012. I have some advantages and disadvantages. I'm currently teaching English in the Republic of Georgia, and don't know yet whether LSAC considers this Europe, Asia, or the Middle East. I bought some books before I came over here, so I've got a lot of material (3 10 actuals, SuperPrep, tests 53, 54, 55, 56, and LG and LR bibles), but pretty much no way of getting my hands on more. Gonna try to do something approximating Pithypike's method. I live with a Georgian family, which includes a 4 year old, who is adorable, but who will come into my room at any time of day and spend 20 minutes talking to me in a language I don't understand, and I have no way to tell him to leave since I don't know Georgian. Also, the 4 year old's grandfather has a basement full of chacha (Georgian moonshine) and wine that he makes which he loves getting me to drink with him at random times. For instance, this morning, he insisted that because it was a holiday, I needed to have a shot of chacha with him. Afterwards, he said, "Since we have two feet, we must have two drinks." I think his argument was susceptible to a number of logical fallacies that I expect to know more about when I am done studying, but he was persistent nonetheless.

Now, my advantages: first, my job limits me to no more than 25 hours of work each week, which means that I've got ton of free time. In addition, most people don't speak English, and it's an hour commute to anywhere approximating a decent nightlife, so not too many distractions besides those named above.

I like what someone said earlier about working out. Went for a run this morning, once the chacha wears off I will be more focused because of it. Gets the restless energy out of my system. Here's to keeping it up. Best of luck to everyone, hoping participating here will keep me motivated.

Make sure you're not drinking anything that was distilled through an automotive radiator, or spiked with wood alcohol (methanol/antifreeze). Those both used to be really common in moonshining operations in the states. The former introduces a lot of heavy metals (esp. lead) to the distillate, while the latter can make you blind if the proportions are wrong.

Also, I'm assuming you're testing in Georgia. I hope it's not too long a trip to your test center. You may want to arrange a trip to scout it ahead of time.

I agree. I would much rather be studying for the LSAT than sitting at work right now.
Try doing both, although I would rather study for the LSAT than any other grad admissions test.

I try sometimes, but if someone interrupts me in the middle of a passage or a game I completely lose my train of thought. I'm going to try stockpiling all my school work into my work day (except for my stats class, which I need uninterrupted attention for as well) and then spend all my time not at work or school on the LSAT.

So I have been going through sections at a time. I haven't opened any books to learn strategies but more so to understand the standardization of the test. For the next two weeks this is what I will do. What I have found is that the wrong answers are standardized as well and if you can quickly pick those out then you have a good chance at selecting the right answer. i.e. most questions have an 1. opposite answer choice, 2. one that could be right but the language is too strong or not strong enough, 3. One that is just irrelevant based on the text, 4.One that could be true based on "Common Sense" ideas but is wrong because it is not supported by the text. This is what I have found for logical reasoning. I am sure there is a standard for games and reading comp, as I am also sure there are other types of wrong answer choices than what I have listed here. Just my thoughts.....

Preptest 19 Section 2 Question2. The answer is C. I know it is probably really something simple that I must be missing, but I can't figure out for the life of me why C is the answer.

The argument's goal is to "prevent most accidents" through the installation of the device. But with the device, drivers would not be able to speed up their cars to avoid some accidents. So, the argument has to assume that there would seldom ever be such a need.

I'm also studying to retake in June. The advice in this forum has helped me form a much better idea on how to attack the LSAT so I thought I'd join the group.

I took an online powerscore course before the December test - how do the materials from their online courses and their LG/LR/RC Bibles differ?

Feeling somewhat discouraged today. I need to get 170 or above by June to make up for my 3.1 GPA from undergrad 5 years ago. I really want to make it into Georgetown for Fall 2012 so I'll actually need more like a 175 to really make up for my grades. Here's to hoping, and to lots of hard work ahead. I hope to have done all 61 released exams at that point. Has anybody used the Master the LSAT book: http://www.amazon.com/Master-LSAT-Prep- ... 471&sr=8-1

Also, has anyone used the ACE the LSAT logic games book: http://www.amazon.com/Ace-LSAT-Logic-Ga ... pd_sim_b_7

Would love to hear about these books if anyone has used them seeing as how I am about to be done going over my Virtual Powerscore course for the 2nd time and will need additional materials soon.

I'm practice testing a 162. I'm really hoping I can push that thing up over the 170 by June.

We're in a similar boat, geverett, though I've only been out 3 years, and my 162 is an actual score (I was PTing much higher and did break 170 near the end). We can do this.

Thanks for the concern, it's made in the basement and I've seen the operation, fortunately it doesn't include any of those. From my understanding it's just made from the leftovers of the wine making process. The main danger seems to be it can vary in strength from 35% to 80%. I don't know if anyone else ate airheads when they were kids, but if you did, it's like the white airheads of booze. (White airheads were unidentifiable in flavor until eaten)

I actually stumbled across the place that will be the testing center when wandering around Tbilisi a few months ago. It's about an hour away, but I might get a hotel nearby the night before just so I am closer and am assured a decent night's sleep.

Also, I'm looking for an online study partner. I think a particular challenge I'm going to face is that nobody around me understands the American law school system, let alone application process, or my particular goals, or actually can even communicate with me much. I'm hoping that staying involved in this site will keep me motivated, so if anyone wants an online study partner, shoot me a PM. Shooting for 180 (might not get it but I always aim high). I want to get into one of the T6, but my GPA is only 3.67 (might get a slight bump if LSAC includes the study abroad grades that my UG did not count), meaning I'll need an especially killer LSAT score. Standardized testing used to be a strength of mine, although I haven't taken one in 5 years. Took a lot of philosophy electives in undergrad and I was good at arguing.

I was trying to think how to make a logic game out of this. Here's a weak attempt:

There are 14 drinks of chacha. All of them must be consumed. There are four animals, an elephant, dog, human, and spider, three of whom will get to drink.

If an animal drinks, it must drink as many times as legs it has.

Which animals must drink?

Im actually in the middle of using the master the LSAT book. The book basically goes through every type of problem found on the test and gives tips on how to attack the problem. Its about 500 pages, only buy it if your willing to do every page. I am finding it pretty helpful up to this point.

If you've done every practice test and still scoring just a 162 where are you having your problems?

So who here is retaking? What are you doing differently?
I really want T14, but it seems to be the TLS mentality that a first time LSAT of <170 rules out most T14s. Thoughts? Retaking is still worth it... right?

I guess technically I'm retaking. I cancelled my score back in October because I went into it completely unprepared (I knew better). If you break a 170 you should be golden. Plenty of people have had low scores and then broken 170 and gotten in T14.

We're in the same boat and from the looks of it we're two June test takers that are part of the current admissions cycle. I am 99.9% sure that I am taking it in June but the .1 comes from the UVA waitlist I am currently on. If I get off that, I just might forget about taking it.

I have 2 weeks to the first official PT on my schedule. Between that time and now I will be taking 3 unofficial practice PTs. I just finished a thorough 2 week long review of the bibles again yesterday and went right into doing some practice sections. RC is my weak spot and I jumped into that after work today [23/27 on my practice section]. Back at it tomorrow.
