Took the LSAT twice, never had the experience of there being "too many people" for the check in desk and proctors to check your material for contraband. At the check in desk they'll 100% match your name/id/photo/ticket to the file, and if you have any questionable materials that is the time to ask because there's still time to not bring it in to the testing center.forum_user wrote: 1. Where are you taking the test? If you're taking it in/near a city, there are going to be probably hundreds of other students. The proctors aren't going to be rifling through everyone's clear plastic baggie searching for contraband.
2. There's a check-in person insofar as someone has a list with your name on it and they look at your ID. That's likely as formal as it'll get. I wouldn't check with them, because if they tell you no (because they are the ultimate arbiters of what you can or can't do, and they have sole discretion) then you're SOL.
In all likelihood you'll meet in a building and be led to a classroom/auditorium where you take the test. They'll tell you the last chance you have to go to the bathroom, and do it then. If you do it when you're leaving your car, you'll be waiting for at least 1-2 hours before you actually start on your first question.
Both times I took it (at different testing centers), I was in a standard sized classroom, with two proctors for no more than 30 people. Before the tests were handed out we had to put our plastic bags on our desk and proctors checked each one (just glancing, not digging through, but there's not much space to hide anything in a clear gallon bag.)
OP: just take it before you enter, you'll be fine, especially if you've been fine just taking one pill when PT-ing. I'm not risk-averse, or saying you would necessarily get in trouble, and you'd 99.9% be fine just having it in your pocket and taking it with water at the last call for bathroom/water before the tests are handed out, but it's a dumb rule, and there's no reason to risk ruining your whole test day if a proctor/dickhead fellow test taker in the hallway sees you take something out of your pocket and swallow it over 45 minutes.
Don't stress, you'll be fine, and the test really isn't a big deal.
