Re: Ex-smokers (or anyone, for that matter) please help!
OP here. Thanks to all who have replied.
I do not want to smoke. I cannot think of one single, solitary good thing that would come of it. Not one. And of course there are lots of bad things.
I hate that the LSAT is making me even think about thinking about smoking.
I bought some mini candy canes today and am using them as a consolation prize. Maybe I will get some peanut M & Ms too.
Thanks again for all of the input. It made me happy to check in here and find that you all had been responding. None of my current friends smoke so I can't talk to them about this. Plus they have no idea how insane the LSAT is, or how much it counts.

Might I suggest (if you're not one already) becoming a coffee drinker?
It's only the best drug ever, and all the cool kids are doing it.
Plus, no cancer!
Or tea. Tea's good.
And jelly beans.

Or, have sex more often. According to the Mayo Clinic, physical activity can help to reduce the intensity of cravings for nicotine.Mauve.Dino wrote:Might I suggest (if you're not one already) becoming a coffee drinker?

You could always try gum. Fills the need to have something in your mouth. Get some minty gum and it'll also make your breath smell better, which should serve as a reminder of how bad smoking makes your breath smell.

There's no do-over once you get lung cancer. Nobody should die a death that awful. Knowing people that have struggled with that made me sure I'll never smoke again.
E: I agree with other posters about the gum and patch and even vapor e-cig (as long as not much nicotine in it, you can get varying amounts or even zero). If you really have a craving, those are WAY better than smoking actual cigs, even if they aren't perfect.

At my testing center, the proctors read instructions saying that nobody could leave the testing center, so they didn't let me leave the building to smoke. I think a flavorless chewing gum while taking the test, or having something in your other hand to fiddle with (no homo) can help.

You could probably fiddle with a pencil, as long as you fiddle with your own pencil and don't make too much noise with it when you're fiddling.sinclair wrote:At my testing center, the proctors read instructions saying that nobody could leave the testing center, so they didn't let me leave the building to smoke. I was thinking about this thread today, and wanted to bump it up in case anyone can use it and/or contribute to it (judging from the December waiting thread, some people have a little extra time on their hands).
I do want to say I appreciate all of the posts. The video of the tar extraction especially grossed me out (which all things considered is a good thing).

Cinnamon sticks are good because you can mimic taking a drag and it feels the same way in your hand as a cigarette.

I smoked for 8 years, then switched to an E-cig but kept doing both mostly. I told myself before the LSAT that if I did well, I'd never smoke a cig again, and haven't!

20 smokes a day, switched to e-cig. never looked back. Check out ego C-twist with a vivi Nova tank with a solid nic juice and boom. you're set.

Re: Ex-smokers (or anyone, for that matter) please help!
I used e-cigs before, about a month. But it just didn't quite feel the same, and then I went back to smoking regular cigs. I'm currently smoking around 5 cigs a day, give or take. I know it's bad for me, but I honestly do enjoy smoking cigs, so I'm not looking to quit at the moment. But I am considering smoking less often.
I appreciate the suggestions. How much does it usually cost to replace the thingy on the e-cig? Not the battery, but the nicotine thing. Anyone have any tips about how to smoke less? I've been trying to keep track of the last time I smoked, and then count the hours before I allow myself to smoke again.

This made me cry. It's easy to justify "just a few" but who knows which one is the tipping point to cancer . . .
