Somehow I doubt booze contributed.

Booze sure did the trick for me this time.

Evidence: Prior to my 171, I had stopped drinking for a month before the test. Prior to my 175, I drank frequently.

Alright, I don't wanna be an ass. I studied hard for 3.5 months, starting with the games. Moved into regular pt's about 3 months out. Would do about 2, maybe 3, pts a week then drill the other days. I'd drink on saturdays, but beyond that I was fully absorbed with the test for 3 months. I also work full-time, so I had to be.

My college workload made in well-practiced in quick reading and information retention, which helped for each part of the test. I wasn't too systematic about it, but I tried to note why I got questions incorrect every time I took a pt or drilled. Often it was just a misread, but it allowed me to really focus in on certain weaknesses a few weeks before the test. For me, those were principle questions, which my brain often computed as sufficient questions, and my tendency to breeze through logical reasoning questions that I (incorrectly) recognized as easy.

While it certainly depends on your disposition and under what conditions you perform your best, I think it helped that the last two pt's I took I got 172's (my avg was prob 174/5). It really shocked my system and made me angry and focused on test day. If I'd cruised in after two weeks of straight 177-180s, I think I could have easily made more mistakes through overconfidence. I ended up scoring 178, missing three on RC (two of which I changed to the incorrect answer at the last second, which I should've realized never serves me well).
