ty for the guide.
I actually really appreciated the psychological aspect of your test day. I feel i'll take away a lot from your guide when I read it again later on.

I particularly respect the fact that you included in your guide advice regarding retaking PTs. It is true that retaking PTs is very underrated by the groupthink here on TLS, yet pattern recognition and practice by repetition abide. +1

Re: DD's Thoughts on the LSAT
Thanks for this, DD. Read part of this so far, and am reading the rest... looks really helpful and hopefully will help get me back on the study track for October.
As someone who was part of the 8 person study group DD mentioned, DD knows the LSAT more than anyone.

DD, I lurked on a lot of your advice in the June Study thread and I think this post is great and needs to stay on the front page.

Thanks DD, appreciate it. Will be posting explanations for more tests there in short order.Daily_Double wrote:Edited to Add another link, which is below so you don't have to look for it. Hopefully this is the last of the edits.

Also, read your guide. This is good stuff. Completely agree about LSAT success coming from changing how you think. I think that's what gives this test such a hold over people, students and instructors alike.
I'm glad you suggest redoing tests. I feel like a lot of students miss this. Learning requires repetition. Unless you truly master the questions you got wrong, you don't fully understand your mistakes. You'll risk making the same mistake if a similar concept/trap crops up again.

Re: DD's Thoughts on the LSAT
I keep thinking that, even though it might be true for the majority of situations, this might not always be the case. Again, I haven't thought it through enough, but it's one of those sentences that really makes me think all day, here and there, about the truth of these words.Graeme (Hacking the LSAT) wrote:Learning requires repetition.
Nevertheless, I really think that what you said can be extremely helpful, if used properly, and potentially harmful to people who are rather predisposed to treat learning as a passive task. I just see so many people around me studying for the lsat, and they are literally mindlessly repeating the PTs. they can't score above 155, and they're 30 PTs in deep.
Again, i'm pretty sure you must have meant that learning requires a certain type of repetition. (e.g. Repeating cycle of constantly trying to find an efficient method or getting used to implementing the most efficient method in a quick and accurate fashion).
Regardless, your posts always make me think which is a good thing.

DD - this is one of the most comprehensive guides on taking the LSAT. As an October retaker, I found your tips and reminders about the basics incredibly helpful. Now to just drill and take PT's to get timing down...

Yes, learning requires conscious, focussed repetition. They say 'practice makes permanent'. So you have to constantly evaluate what to improve on, and practice THAT.kiyoku wrote:I keep thinking that, even though it might be true for the majority of situations, this might not always be the case. I lift barbells. I film myself most times to check my form. Each time I lift again, I focus on one thing I'm not doing quite right. My form has gotten better over time.
If I just lifted, my form would have stayed exactly the same. I would have gotten stronger, but set myself up for long term inefficiency, and injury at higher weights.
So WHY did you choose the wrong answer. HOW could you eliminate an answer faster. What diagrams and method on games would let you go faster, even if you got all the questions on that game.
