I have not posted before, but I've followed this forum a little since the exam. I was PT'ing in the range of 158-170 before taking the exam, although I'm sure I didn't take as many full timed exams as others here. I took the LSAT last October and my score dropped from my practice exams, but at the time I knew that I had done horribly. I decided not to cancel... This October I took it for a 2nd time and felt very confident that I did better on the exam than my average score. Although many might assume that they have done better than they actually have, I generally am realistic with myself after the test. I am not sure why so many people on this forum are concerned about the games. I think I found a shortcut on the 4th game, which I can't go into details about, that made that game particularly easy. I am confident that I missed -0 to -3 at most on the games. I generally make stupid mistakes on the RC and LR that drop my score... Anyway, I think it is very possible to improve your score on the actual exam. I felt zoned in on the exam to an extant that I could not become when practicing. I was also hyped on energy drinks so I could be deluding myself, but I had more time left on each section than I've ever had. GOOD LUCK, hopefully we will reverse the trend of underperforming on the test.

My first diagnostic was a 165. When I actually wrote the test for the first time my score was 157. Take from that what you will.

Going into my 2nd LSAT, I was averaging 177. Went for a 180 on test day. Ended up with 175.

I was expecting more flaming! Well, let's say my average score was closer to a 164 but I started off scoring around 158. I scored higher than a 167 on a couple of exams, but a range would technically include any score (as opposed to an average range, which I don't understand). I really did feel like I had more time at the end of each section to go back and re-examine questions that I was unclear on. Generally this test seemed easier than most practice tests I've taken. Maybe that will show in everyone else's score who is overreacting, probably because of how obsessive the LSAT makes people.

I'm not sure why this is so "face-palm worthy." Do you consider outliers in your range? If I perform how I have been on recent PT's I'd have a 20% chance of one of those scores, which is definitely significant enough to take into account with a test of this magnitude.

A student's father recently asked me how many points I thought his son could improve considering he scored a 152 on his diagnostic and had already improved 8 points consistently in just 2 months. Here was my reply:

One cannot improve 8 points without putting in good solid work, and will be right on track with another 8 points.

I should note that going from a 160 to a 168 can be more work than going from a 152 to 160, but given how quickly he has shown improvement it seems promising. Logic games tend to be the most improvable, and reading comp the least so the fact he has stayed the same in reasoning means there is a lot of work to do there. If he scored a 160, he probably got about 25 questions wrong so going off of these numbers he probably got about 6 wrong per section. If we can cut that down to 2 or 3, he'd be where he needs to be. Games can also be perfected, and -8 is too much to lose in any section.

It seems that he needs some nit-picking across the board at this point, where as when he started the games and reading comp were the predominant area of need.

I'd recommend starting with a logical reasoning section, and taking it from there.

Score jumps DO exist.

I jumped up 5 points from my average PT scores on the June '11 exam. I'm one of those people that perform better under real pressure though.
