Yeah, they said the scanning equipment is sensitive and will often pick up erasures, leaving that part illegible.
I also wondered if it is just to see who can follow directions, LOL.

Nah, you're good. Remember the 3 R's? Reading, Riting and Rithmetic.niederbomb wrote:Hahaha. Yeah, RS just came out because it looked like "PS." I guess it should have been "WS." I guess it matches my avatar and my home state.niederbomb wrote:
UVA says they take the RS seriously and compare it to the PS to see if the applicant really wrote his/her own PS.
Do they really? I don't know, but I'd rather not find out.
The Riting Section? Is this what you were getting at with the RS? I hope so.

My proctor said not to erase, but to scratch stuff out instead so it wouldn't be hard to read on the scanning thing, as it picks up erasures as smudges, or something.
Yeah. I mean, it's good to use counter premises, obviously... I just went a little crazy with them.sidhesadie wrote:Don't feel bad, eit.
I used "Although" far too many times.Probably in a similar manner to your use of "while".

Ahaha I erased several times, and when I looked at my writing sample later on you couldn't tell AT ALL. LSAC is just being paranoid - like their discouraging faxed LORs because "often a faxed letter is not clear" or whatever.sidhesadie wrote:Yeah, they said the scanning equipment is sensitive and will often pick up erasures, leaving that part illegible.

Re: Getting the most out of the writing section
My proctor also told us we should handwrite the Writing Sample because it said "write." Well, yes, it also said write the date...
It's not terrible if you don't handwrite the writing sample, right? My printing is very clear and neat and looks nice, my handwriting can be nice but wayyy more illegible.

i erased several times. the worst part was all of the eraser shavings on the table. i wrote in print. perhaps i should have taken notes or done an outline before writing... maybe next time, hopefully never

Re: Getting the most out of the writing section
I used both cursive and print, depending on how tired my hand was. I hate pencils. I can at least write reasonably well with a fine mechanical pencil, about as well as I write with a fountain pen, but a stupid #2 is just useless.
I kept erasing, then remembering I wasn't supposed to and then crossing out the blank area where I erased.

I erased. I think they say that just so you don't smear the crap out of it. I picked Dr. R for some pretty good reasons I thought though even if it didn't matter.

Re: Getting the most out of the writing section
My writing sample was garbage. I spent most of the time stressing out while trying to predict my score and finally started writing with about 10 min left. I filled a little more than half of the front side.

Re: Getting the most out of the writing section
I think the last time I wrote that much by hand was the SAT.
Seriously, between my inability to take notes and typing (I briefly majored in piano so that helps WPM)...
Plus I'm a lefty so my hand had all sorts of pencil fairy dust on it at the end. Ugh

Re: Getting the most out of the writing section
My sweaty hands, coupled with my left-handedness, was a way bigger issue than my several erasures. By the time I concluded part of the way down the backside, the whole thing was smudged considerably to the degree that any copy will probably turn out as a grey sheet of paper. Oh ya, I was for the media/book writing chick, and completely tore apart the other on the basis of her lack of real world clinical experience and "impressive verbosity." Either option was pretty uninspiring. I was hoping for a prompt with a little more room for fun, but you know I was just glad to get out of there.

you can absolutely erase; it just doesn't look so good on the scanCGI Fridays wrote:Ragged wrote:Yes, I did a few times anyway though.CGI Fridays wrote:Seriously folks, were we not supposed to erase?![]()
I only did it a few times as well, but what's the reasoning? Legibility after copying?
Seriously? What are you waiting for?
