Re: The Official June 2016 Study Group
I've been studying for 6 months now and finally got to a level I'm happy with (finishing LR and LG with time to spare invariably with no more than 2 wrong, no more than 3-4 wrong on RC). But PT 70 section 4 really gives me a hard time. Anyone else feel that way? To me the Industrial Revolution, fruit, and water shortage questions are particularly difficult given how early they show up in the sectionsomewhatferal wrote:PT 70 (with one section from 69 as a fifth section):
LR -1, LG -0, RC -1 (180)
Almost ran out of time on the LG section. Tried to brute force my way through a couple of questions. I think I'm going to take 3 PT's a week up until the 6th. Trying to decide whether to take that last weekend off.

what are people's thougts ok PT72?
Kind of kicked my butt but I managed a 171. I just BRd and was able to get a few right the second time but still not perfect.. I thought it was quite difficult overall.

Consider one of the harder ones I think because of the RC and the pattern logic gamebeenoparte125 wrote:what are people's thougts ok PT72?

I can definitely understand that... It was really discouraging to feel like I was manhandled by that PT after months of prep and 30 PTsetramak wrote:Consider one of the harder ones I think because of the RC and the pattern logic gamebeenoparte125 wrote:what are people's thougts ok PT72?

72 has one of the crazy games that can make one drop -4 easy in the games alone. combine that with tough passages such as equipoise and the somewhat last passage about taxes, it's a very tough rc. imo the curve of -13 doesn't fully compensate for the toughness of lg, so that's a very good score on this ptetramak wrote:Consider one of the harder ones I think because of the RC and the pattern logic gamebeenoparte125 wrote:what are people's thougts ok PT72?

Cool. I don't want to hijack this thread w/ my insecurities re pt 72. I'm gonna drill baby drill and hit 73 tomorrow or Tuesday. Best way for you guys to speed up on LR?
I find myself debating over a couple ACs and taking a little too long on the earlier questions trying to be 100% sure. I think I just need to slow down more (funny, huh?) and have a better grasp of the connection from the premises to the conclusion.
Just curious if there were any observable changes that helped you guys moved faster on LR, thanks.

i haven't done a single pt in the last 1 month and hope to do one old one today pt-26.
at this point, feeling unsure if 2 weeks is going to be enough to be ready for this test.

one thing that helped me was to move on after getting the right answer on certain types of questions without eliminating the rest. e.g. mbt type questions i'd move on once i found one that i felt confident about.josh9308 wrote:Best way for you guys to speed up on LR?

Ever since I began pre phrasing answers I have finished faster and more accurately. I took the advice of another and practice pre phrasing a strengthen/weaken/assumptions/flaws answer for a single stimulus. That really helped me.josh9308 wrote:Best way for you guys to speed up on LR?

YESSSS. I don't do this during a timed PT, but drilling I do this and it is probably the best advice I've gotten for LR, honestly.abcdefg1234567 wrote: I took the advice of another and practice pre phrasing a strengthen/weaken/assumptions/flaws answer for a single stimulus.

How many hours a day are you guys studying at this point? Really trying to prevent burnout, so I take a test 2x a week and then put in around 3 hours per day on non-test days.

why not during timed pt, it's better to do it all the timeTheMikey wrote:YESSSS. Anyone here get really confused by the passage about properties of glass and medieval glass windows n stuff in PT 75??
Usually once I BR and read over the passage really carefully I can at least understand the correct answers but for this one there were a few where I was truly in the dark.
Sometimes I really eat it with science passages because I probably don't understand some really basic scientific concepts lol.

Well when I'm doing a timed PT, I just do what the question stem asks. When I BR, I don't just go over the ones I circle or have doubt on, I go over every question and that's when I tend to implement that strategy.appind wrote:why not during timed pt, it's better to do it all the timeTheMikey wrote:YESSSS. Just curious - what's everyone's favorite order of sections?? Not including an experimental, I like RC, LR, LG, LR best.
Getting RC (my hardest section) out of the way first and while my mind is fresh is great, and I like when LR sections are split up. LG also uses such a different brain capacity for me...I fly through it relatively easily and it's a nice break from dense reading, so it's a good boost before the last LR.

I prefer the exact same sequence as you haha RC-LR--LG--LR. I feel like having 2 sections, real LG, and then 2 more sections is better for me since LG feels like a less mind taxing section, imo.carasrook wrote:Just curious - what's everyone's favorite order of sections?? when i first did the glass passage i went -2 on it because i rushed through it, but i didn't think the psg was that difficult. iirc there was a q or two in that psg that were tricky, but other than that the psg was v straightforward. what in the psg did you find confusing?
there was a legal reasoning psg in that same pt that was much more difficult i thought.

i don't think it matters in the end. i've had diverse results with any order of sections, so if you get a crazy hard lg or rc, it wouldn't matter whether it was first section or the last.carasrook wrote:Just curious - what's everyone's favorite order of sections?? I hate having RC first. Prefer LR, RC, LG, LR. I suck at games, so having that first could really shatter my confidence. RC requires the most concentration, and with nerves on test-day, that could be problematic.

Games later because I tire and get frustrated reading those long questions in LR. It's like a intermission where I know I can add +20 points easy.

This. Back when I was learning the games, I used to read everyone on here saying this exact same thing and I thought to myself "Nah, these people are crazy". But now I see that once you just learn how to do them, it's really not bad at all.. lolHennessyVSOP wrote:It's like a intermission where I know I can add +20 points easy.
