But MY understanding is that they have to basically get everyone's answers, find any trends that may lead to thrown-out questions, adjust the scale, etc. I can see why this may be a timely process. 3 weeks? No...but definitely not a ~*bloop* send through scanner & you're done~ deal...
Can't imagine they'd make the scale ahead of time before seeing how actual participants perform to the difficulty levels...What do you guys think?
Actually, speaking from a data analyst standpoint, it is as easy as pressing a button most likely because I build tools for my clients that basically are something similar.
Feed in data from scantrons into tool, and the tool populates all trends/averages/outliers for you. I think it's a matter of them just sorting through, and agreeing as a group which questions need to be thrown out, what curve should be it. Plus, they have to see complaints and see how many complaints come in, what percentage of tests that impacts, and which scores should be put on hold. That's the manual process within those 2-3 weeks.
Score calculation, etc - it's a 10 minute business because there are tools that can be built to calculate that for them.
(this is the most work-related I've talked in 2 weeks)
The tests are precurved. Hypothetically if all smart people decided not to try and go to law school. Everyone who sits for an LSAT could get a 140. Or if someone figured out a foolproof method for 180 everyone could get a 180. I suppose outlier questions could get thrown out after the fact but the curve itself is preset based on previous experimental sections.

Hahah that thing is not cute. It always freaks me out a little when I look at it closely. Definitely has rabies or something.

BANG. I WIN.
But yeah, that's what I thought. Had this discussion a number of times and this seems to be the prevailing thought.

My avatar reminds me of the day my parents dropped me off at my dorm for undergrad...they had to get home so we just pulled through Arby's to grab dinner & I sat in the back seat and cried into my roast beef sandwich just like that poor lil otter is with his watermelon. LMAO

I didn't cry - I teared up a little, but didn't cry.
Then at the end of orientation week I was overwhelmed, sleep deprived, and school was starting. So of course they put us in an emotionally overwhelming lecture and I just broke down and started crying. It was 20% lecture and 80% dear god I'm starting college save me I want my mom.
