Hmm okay, interesting. Like I said, I've never been, so my feeling about the city is completely baseless. I think I just need to go there and see what the fuss is about, because it does have a lot of characteristics that I, in theory, should love. At least, I hope I'll fall in love with it, because it certainly opens a lot of BL doors, lol.Alexandros wrote:Interesting. I'm not a city person but I love, love NYC.oopsu812 wrote:Yes, I wouldn't go to NYC just to visit law schools. I'd just do that as part of a vacation, haha. I really want to figure out how I truly feel about NYC. There's something about it I don't quite connect with (although I've never been there), but I have nothing against big cities (London is <3). So I'm not really sure what's up with it.Alexandros wrote:I mean I'll def visit my main contenders before making a final decision, as well.oopsu812 wrote:Ohhhh you were thinking about YP, not just about making sure you like the location and vibez and what not.Alexandros wrote:Yeah I'm thinking NYU and CLS shouldn't be hard. Also want to visit UVA if I can. Debating trying to do Penn at the same time as NYC schools / Duke at the same time as UVA. Also debating whether or not I should try to visit Chi. I don't think they're really known for YP but if it makes them like me more it might be worth it.oopsu812 wrote:I'll probably check out Columbia, NYU, and Chicago because they're in cities I want to visit anyways.Alexandros wrote:Any of y'all who haven't applied yet planning on doing visits before applications / decisions?
Also I feel you on cost / feasibility; why I'm trying to cut it down / combine things as much as possible
CLS/NYU don't really YP but they do weird shit sometimes and are my <3 schools. Also easy to visit because NYC.
Never been to London so I can't compare but I'd say it has a similar vibe to the downtown areas of large Canadian cities - think Toronto or Montreal (more the latter than the former imo but my experience is limited). Pretty pedestrian friendly (as cities go), a lot of interesting culture/character, and Central Park is gorgeous.

Oh yeah definitely, but at least if you get stuck there, not hating the city would make it less miserable.Alexandros wrote:Lol yeah I'm pretty averse to NYC BL but that's a lot more because of culture, hours, and CoL than NYC.oopsu812 wrote:Hmm okay, interesting. Yes. Add in studying under the warm sun, kicking a football around, and playing fetch with doggos and it's the dream.Alexandros wrote:I propose me, DJ, and Oopsu (+ anyone else ITT) all go to Stanny, throw wild parties 2gethr, graduate with minimal debt, finish top 10%, and get our dream jobs.

And to complete my triple post. The guy or gal not looking for BL. You should still apply if you have the numbers. Those schools allow for great negotiations and open tons of doors that are closed otherwise in every single field. Long term payoff crushes from the t13 and that's why I'm going even though I naively wanted in state law school initially, i am going elsewhere

I do wonder if there's something Stanny really likes. I'd totally write a completely separate PS with a special angle if it would move the needle for S.
Also I wish I would just get sick and get better like a normal person instead of being extremely low energy and foggy-headed for weeks during the most vital part the semester.

Well, I won't be KJD. But that in itself won't be enough.oopsu812 wrote:I don't think they like KJD.Alexandros wrote:I do wonder if there's something Stanny really likes. I'd totally write a completely separate PS with a special angle if it would move the needle for S.

Of course, but apart from targeted LORs, it seems like the only thing that's apparent.Alexandros wrote:Well, I won't be KJD. I was wondering if they like STEM-y people or anything like that at all. I think I'm thinking of SV and not Stanford tho.oopsu812 wrote:Of course, but apart from targeted LORs, it seems like the only thing that's apparent.Alexandros wrote:Well, I won't be KJD.
