Haha, no idea. I'm not a neuroscientist but I do find it improbable that we utilize just 10%; the power of a brain is so immense, how would anyone even be able to quantify it and determine that we use "10%" of it?

ETA- is Lucy that movie with ScarJo? I heard that it's similar to that Limitless movie w/ Bradley Cooper, which I really liked.
Yup. One of those cool what-if-it's-true sorta movies, haha.

I'll never understand how I can miss main point questions on RC...did pretty damn well otherwise, so I'll take the good with the bad.

Is Lucy good? I remember seeing it on Time Magazines list of 10 best for the year, but they omitted Gone Girl and Whiplash so I'm not sure how much I can trust that list.

I haven't seen those 2 movies, but I've been wanting to. I think the whole only using 10% of your brain is hard to believe. It controls everything like the nervous system, hormones, smells, sight, taste, etc. Maybe only 10% is for thinking? Idk

I just dont understand the purpose it would serve (that we can only use 10%). Wouldnt that just be an obvious disadvantage to the race? I havent read up on it though - anyone know the reasoning people put forth explaining why?

BTW, everyone needs to go watch Boyhood, Gone Girl, Birdman, Whiplash and Nightcrawler if they havent done so already. AMAZING movies from this year.

ETA - Pepp you're right we use way more than 10% of our brains. A significant portion is already delegated to involuntary functions, from breathing and blinking to growing/repair.

"We only use 10% of our full capacity" is one of the most stupid perpetuated myths of all time. Plus, even if we can "become smarter", how does that enable us to defy the laws of physics.

Only a fraction of our neurons are actively firing at any one given time. This does not mean we are using 10% of our full capacity. Think of it like a computer. Computer processors are ultimately a series of on-and-off switches. "Only 10% of the switches are on at any one time! Our processors are only using 10% of their capacity." If I turned all the switches on, and all my code was just 11111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111, I wouldn't have any meaningful processes going on.

Here are some more absurd examples:

- When I'm writing an essay, only 20% of the page is covered in ink! Imagine how much I can accomplish if I covered 100% of all the pages in ink!

- When Obama gives a speech, his vocal chords are only vibrating 50% of the time. Imagine how much better his speeches would be if his vocal chords could be generating sound non-stop!

Sorry, this myth thoroughly gets my knickers in a knot.

Even if I'm just having a beer or two, as soon as I start drinking I exit LSAT MODE and at that point it stops being productive. I think it has less to do with alcohol and more to do with frame of mind.

7:30am - JackelJ waking up to her alarm on her iPhone with the Ke$ha melody: "Wake up in the morning feeling like P. Diddy…"

8:30am - Leaves for work right before she sips on a Dos Equis.

12pm - Lunch break at the Olive Garden. "O, a little wine never hurt anyone," lisped JackelJ as she fervently gleans through the alcohol section of the restaurant's menu.

5pm - Arrives at her one bedroom apartment in the upscale YUPPIE neighborhood of her city.

5:30pm - Gets a text from one of the "girls." It's a girls night out! Got to get my hurr and nails ready! She quips.

6pm - Judiciously assembles her outfit after multiple trials of trying out various dresses — all from Zara — in front of her full-body size mirror.

6:15pm - Showers whilst humming to the Ke$ha tune playing on her Beats by Dre 2.0 beatbox: "Before I leave, brush my teeth with a bottle of jack, cause when I leave for the night I ain't coming back!"

7pm - Recalls her LSAT prep and upcoming February 2015 administration. She reasons, "I can do that later, besides, it's the holidays. Can't a girl have her fun?"

8pm - Alyssa, her "big" from her sorority, pulls up in front of her porch *honk* *honk* "JackelJ," Alyssa yells, "Let's go! Pre-game at Nicole's place (Nicole was JackelJ's "little" in college).

9pm through 10pm - JackelJ gulps seven shots at Nicole's.

10:30pm through 12am - bar hops with her "girls."

12:15am - Arrives at home. Attempts one LR question.

12:24am - Inquires on TLS: "Random question - has anyone had success studying while casually drinking? I just can't seem to focus…"

2am - Crashes on her living room carpet.

<><><><>NEXT DAY<><><><>

JackelJ: GUYS, I SWEAR! I'M NOT GOING CRAZY WITH THE DRINKING OR ANYTHING!

Shit - just caught myself spending wayyyy to much time again lurking law school thread when I should be studying. I clearly have no self control, so I'm going to dip out for a while and block this site -the site has become more of a distraction than anything for me. I really am tired of dealing with this stupid ass test and just want to give it my all on Feb and not have to think about it anymore. You all seem like very nice and friendly people and it was nice talking to you all, so good luck to all you guys taking in February - you got this!

Thanks bud. Oh and for sure I'll come back to the Feb waiters thread. Take care!
