Did you just look this up? This is awesome. We should put this in the OP with the poll results.EnderWiggin wrote:For context on how accurate/inaccurate curve predictions have been in recent waiters threads for disclosed tests:

I think if you're writing a DS just to write a DS its gonna come off insincere and forced but if you actually believe your experience is diverse your writing will show that and it'll sound geniuinecub1014 wrote:Question for you guys, should everybody be able to write a diversity statement or no?

Re: The Official October Waiter's Oasis
Of the last 4 disclosed tests, 1 thread was overly optimistic (June '15), 2 were overly harsh in their assessments (June '14 and Sept '14) and one (Dec' 14) was slightly more optimistic.SirArthurDayne wrote:
This is great! So pretty much the thread's haven't been able to predict the curve with much accuracy.
Also, I know not all values add to 100. Was just going off of what was posted in the OP of the past waiter's threads. If anyone wants to verify numbers though, please do.

Re: The Official October Waiter's Oasis
Cub,
Okay, let me backpedal. Adversity doesn't have to begin at childhood. It can begin later in life, certainly. And obviously your situation is specific to you. I suppose my harshness with whether people should write one is due to some of the DS posts I've seen recently in the PS thread. People talking about being middle class and the recession being hard because suddenly they were lower-middle rather than upper-middle. Or someone talking about going abroad and having that as their DS. That kind of shit. That isn't adversity. Every situation is different, though. Don't not write one because of my opinion. If you want to Ps and talk about it, feel free.
(Also, don't quote this please, thanks!)

Right? I always go into the PS thread and half of the posts titled "should this be a DS??" make me so angry.McJimJam wrote: Seriously?! That is entitled as fuck, really hope shit like that hurts them more than it helps.

Re: The Official October Waiter's Oasis
For anyone actually in a "should I write a DS" situation, whom I have probably offended, I would suggest writing one, posting it anonymously in the PS thread, and determining whether to use it or not based on feedback. There are plenty of assholes like me that will tell you if we think you're a stuck up prick for what you consider diversity lol

I feel like my personal statement is good but.. could be crap. I usually just rely on the feedback of my professors though, paranoid to post it online.

I sure hope so, really. My grandfather was a Cub fan his whole life and never got to see them win. So yeah, just this one win felt great. The Bartman game kept entering into my mind when the shortstop committed an error. Got really nervous there.SirArthurDayne wrote:Btw cub1014, congrats on your Cubs winning. That's the shit I'm talking about. The human race disappoints me daily. Sigh.theugg wrote:For example, I know a kid who made up the fact that he had formed an organization to help underprivileged children and put it in a college app essay. He was accepted to Yale undergrad. Guess they never checked.
Ridiculous shit

Re: The Official October Waiter's Oasis
Weird coincidence, one of the partners at my firm does interviews for HLS and we actually just discussed people lying on apps yesterday. He said he'll read their resume and half the time he wants to ask "did you really do this shit. You're lying, right?" but he never does. I told him he should lolSirArthurDayne wrote:Wow, that's pathetic. I've seen people really exaggerate their work experience on resumes, and I'm sure this kind of stuff happens more often than we know. You would think though that admission officers would get good at weeding through the bullshit.theugg wrote:For example, I know a kid who made up the fact that he had formed an organization to help underprivileged children and put it in a college app essay.
