I do this crap all the time on weaken and justify the conclusion. So scary because I FEEL like I answered correctly. I plan on getting the relevant Cambridge packs and drilling the bad habits away.lsatkillah wrote:PT59

Anyone willing to share LR tips for strengthen and weaken? I seem to over infer on the premise and miss the argument gaps or I twist the wrong answer choices into working for the argument...D: Everytime I gain confidence in those sections, the next PT brings in its smoke and mirrors and I get shattered arggghhh

Re: The Official September 2014 Study Group
well guys and gals, hope youre all studying hard for this home stretch. I'm about to ramp things up myself hardcore. Retaking from 95 percentile here, hoping to get 170+. Gotta admit having all that time off inbetween retakes really made me better at the test somehow, I'm PTing much higher under these relaxed conditions than I was weeks before my first real take.
last 5 PTs, over last 10 days
61 174
67 166
58 175
64 169
65 174
had the 166 during a late night take under really poor conditions, dropped too many RC questions.
my LG game is consisent -0/-1, so I feel that to be prepared for the test I simply need to keep drilling away and make sure I'm "hot" come test-day. Had a -0 games first take, -5 games second take. Important to be warm like the first take.
LR has always been pretty consistent for me, now hoping to get consisitent -4 LR total for the whole test. I just purchased the cambridge LR sorted by type for 61-70, which I will be going through in the weeks leading up to the test. That will hopefully get me adjusted properly to LR trends, because I really felt a change in both LR and RC from the 50s to the 60s. Not sure if that's just me or if you folks noticed it, but let me know if you did.
RC has always been my trouble spot, but I'm getting a more natural feel for reading the passages and I hope that will help me come test day. I used to make some notations, etc, but I am getting more interested in a good, swift readthrough and then diving into the questions. This strategy has helped me recently, with only a few missed Q's here and there on my RC sections.
I do feel like the retake is all about repetition. I got the cambridge LR book even though I've gone through all those questions recently, because I feel like drilling in order by type really helps me hone the technique.
In terms of PTs, the only PTs i've yet to see are 72 and 73, and I only saw 70 and 71 while taking them. I'm still going to make sure I finish all the PTs through 72 or 73 (whichever) weeks before the test, because I do want to repeat those sections if I can and incorporate those into the prep.

Re: The Official September 2014 Study Group
Well, PT 44 is completed.
RC: -5 (7/7, 5/7, 5/6, 5/7.) Pretty upset with this, not because of the -5 (which is on the higher end of my incorrect #'s for RC) but because 3/5 mistakes were due to sloppiness.
LR #1: -5 (Weaken except, Most strongly supported, Sufficient assumption, Main conclusion, Flaw.)
LG: -6 (game 3 that last rule screwed me) Missed 1 question on game 4 because of stupidity.
LR #2: -5 ( Disagree question, Necessary assumption, Strengthen except, Role, Sufficient assumption.)
Raw score: 79
Scaled Score: 161.
Gonna have to go over NA/SA questions again + support/Main conclusion questions seem to be my Achilles heel.
Drilling them tmrw.

LOL. Just laughing at that distribution. The worst I've ever done on an LG section is -3. I don't know what happened...typically go -0/-1 on LG.
That's my best RC score to date, and I'm happy with the -3 on the second LR.
Should have been at least a 170 on this test.
Practice makes perfect, right?

Yea, I've been PTing in the low to mid 160s, and one of those PTs I got a 156. It was just weird- I felt like I couldn't comprehend any arguments in the last section (LR). Ended up missing 9 on that LR section alone, by far my worst ever.joeisreallycool wrote:You guys ever have off days? I completely sucked today.
It was just a weird, flukey off day. All I Can hope for is that test day isn't one of those days. And if it is, I've got two retakes.
That's the only way I know to deal with days like that.

So I ordered these a couple days ago... went to print them out today and it wont even print. Turns out that they dont let you print these questions. You just get to look at them. Wtf? What's the point? I want to drill the toughest questions and if i cant even print them or save them (the link to the questions expires after 3 days so you dont have them permanently) then there is no point. I didnt see anywhere where it said i couldnt print them. I just bought them and it refused to print. Pisses me off.CFC1524 wrote:LR: http://www.cambridgelsat.com/problem-se ... reasoning/choward014 wrote:can you provide a link to these hard ones?CFC1524 wrote:Cambridge has packets of the "hardest" LR/LG/RC questions, I believe. iirc they provide a password when you order them and links expire after 3 days. if you're able to view them then it could be less than 3 days since you ordered them. shoot an email to cambridge asking about it?ilikebaseball wrote:it wont let me save them. its password protected. Going to spend today thru sunday drilling the 3 types of LR I suck at: Flaws, MSS/MBT, and NA. Taking PT 52 monday. hopefully I see some improvement. And will spend all next week finishing up LG packets from Cambridge just to make sure I still got it.
Seriously? What are you waiting for?
Now there's a charge.
Just kidding ... it's still FREE!
