Re: The Official February 2016 Waiter's Thread
When is the latest that US applicants at T-14's hear about admission?
In Canada it is very common for students to be accepted late into the summer (even days before the start of classes). Obviously the majority get in before that.
This generally though is for applicants with lower stats.

It seems like there are a lot of helpful materials on TLS and via google too. If anything I imagine the process will naturally follow after you take the first step in reaching out because the admin offices are so used to negotiations that they'll be able to address the next step.AbbeyS wrote:I feel the same. What I'm most concerned about is being wait listed for a long time. The uncertainty just sounds too frustrating to deal with, especially when it comes to making moving plans and such. Of course many have said it's worth it for the better career prospects, and I will probably ride out a few if I must, but I really, really, really hope I don't have to past April...!

That's all true. Glad I'm not the only one. But even still, my career situation is in shambles lol. I didn't take the traditional route out of college because I didn't want to work in my field...so I don't even have the good job to fall back on. I'm really just getting through the days until law school starts, because I feel like that's when my life will actually begin. Being a 20-something is weird, man. Everybody expects you to have your shat together so you feel bad about yourself if you don't.lizzielemon wrote:I feel that exact way, and what makes it worse is, I have a successful job and everything. And I'm just like... what career? A job where I sit 9-5, go home, watch TV, go back to work. Hear my boss bitch, take a paycheck, yada yada. That's not an accomplishment so I know what you mean.
I've been pushing this law school thing for a couple of years now, and I'm just waiting for the rest of my life to happen so I can finally be proud of something!! We've got this! Don't feel sad about it! We're all still very young!! Even if we live to 90, we're not even halfway into our life, so I think we're good!

I think most hear back for the initial acceptance in time to make the deposit... which is late April or May, I think?

Re: The Official February 2016 Waiter's Thread
You can get accepted off the waitlist all the way until the semester starts...some schools pay portions/all of your deposit that you paid to another school if you get accepted late if they're interested in you. I wouldn't want that though...I'd rather know earlier than later cause I'm a planner. I need to know now so I can plan accordingly. I get anxious with uncertainty.wellitsover wrote:What, really? If I don't start law school this fall, I'm quitting my job and living in a forest. I cannot do this mindless, meaningful work that I have no interest in, even if it brings an income.
I'm about to enter "late 20s" that shit's scary man. I need this LSAT to be good ugh.

Re: The Official February 2016 Waiter's Thread
Holy, just checking around US tuition stats. U Chicago is almost 60k US a year?
In Canadian dollars that's 80k... Our "top" (in terms of admission standards) school is 29k Canadian. It's also way easier to get into law school in Canada compared to many of the top 14 (maybe not the "lowest" ranked top 14's though. We also place greater emphasis on GPA).
Schools I'm looking at are around 10k Canadian, or 6k US.
School choice doesn't matter nearly as much in Canada (could argue it doesn't, or hardly does in many cases), especially if you are applying for positions within the province (or nearby) of your law school.
Obviously we don't have the same salary potential though.

This is all because Canada has so much more figured out than the U.S. We're too busy pretending to know it all when really there's better alternatives, but you didn't hear that from medontsaywhatyoumean wrote:Holy, just checking around US tuition stats. U Chicago is almost 60k US a year?

It depends for the schools though when they start their waitlist and how many turn down offers.wellitsover wrote:What, really? Do you mean getting accepted after wait listed? Some start in July, so a number (a lot?) of applicants are accepted after May without being waitlisted.

So how hard is it for me to get into a Canadian Law School as a US citizen

Re: The Official February 2016 Waiter's Thread
I don't know if they have a preference for Canadians or not.
But Georgetown for example (ranked 14 in US according to one recent ranking) is 167 and 3.76.
Our top school is 3.8ish and 166, and looks only at your last 3 years.
A handful of schools you can easily get accepted to with a 3.6 and a 159. You can definitely get in with a lower score (although not much lower in terms of the LSAT unless you have a very good GPA).
The motto in Canada is a cGPA of 3.7 and an LSAT score of 160+ for a guarantee at most schools (minus our top 2 maybe). In reality, a number of schools will assuredly let you in with lower numbers. 158 seems to be the safe minimum for a number of schools.
A big thing is that so many schools drop your worst years, first year, or worst credits, and look only at your top LSAT score.
Have a 3.4 cGPA, and a 3.7 in your last 2 years, with a 160 LSAT, welcome to 2 of our "top" 5 schools, guaranteed.
Our law market is also not as saturated (though granted, once again, salaries do not peak to the same extent).
Anyway, I just bring this up because I was slightly puzzled by the emphasis many of you place on scholarships. I didn't know the average tuition for a top 14 was so high.

Our higher education system is a little wack. While T14 is super expensive, a school with terrible outcomes is not significantly lower cost. For example Pace Law (got an email from them and their name stuck in my head) is ranked 138. Their tuition is 45k per year.dontsaywhatyoumean wrote:I don't know if they have a preference for Canadians or not.

I swear no one understands when I try to explain this to them. People are over here cheering about graduating hs or college and petty things like that and I'm like nope! Man, I feel bad for students who unwittingly accept offers from schools like that (I've read so many horror articles). Oh, and wow, you guys have 200 law schools lol (although obviously a much larger pop in USA)! I wonder what the average seat size is. I'd guess probably also larger than what it is in Canada
