Re: The Official June 2016 Study Group
I'm a bit overwhelmed and feeling deterred. I'm shooting for a prep class that will begin in early summer. However, I have a book that I am attempting to utilize on my own prior to my Prep class, so that I can behind getting comfortable with the material. Is anyone taking any prep courses? If so, what company are you guys going with? And can you leave any feedback on your experiences thus far? Thanks

I did something similar to what you're describing. I worked through the first 7 or 8 chapters of the LSAT trainer prior to taking a class. I'm taking the Manhattan course and so far it's been very helpful.Kposh20 wrote:I'm a bit overwhelmed and feeling deterred. I'm shooting for a prep class that will begin in early summer. I would recommend taking a diagnostic test if you haven't yet.
I took the class because I felt like I needed structure to my prep work. A class isn't for everyone though and they are a considerable amount of money. It's really dependent on the person as to whether or not the investment pays off.
If you have specific questions on the Manhattan class and want a student's perspective feel free to PM or ask.

I've had an absolutely wonderful and necessary 24 hours of doing absolutely nothing productive. I recommend everyone make this investment in their mental health from time to time.

With LG in good shape, I'm going to drill some RC until Sunday until it is full PT time.
The 5th section on the PTs will be RC.
Welcome Lawschoolbound17 and kposh20. Feel free to ask any questions you may have - the thread is still pretty small in terms of people and we are pretty helpful here!

can you say your major and what is it that you do? I guess many here likely may have some related work but still find hard to score in that range.somewhatferal wrote: I had a major in undergrad that is very useful for the LSAT, and my current job essentially requires me to do LR and RC-type tasks.
One thing I do during the RC section is really try to "pump myself up" and consciously make myself excited about the passages. I also consciously try to do active reading where I underline clauses and sentences that seem important, etc.

FOX LSAT has been working very well for me, Nathan (FOX LSAT) also has free podcasts at Thinking LSAT, which he does with Ben (Strategy Prep) in ITunes that supplement the material very well.

Considering sitting for June. If my PT average is 168, would it be foolish to only study for a month more if my goal is a 170+?
My thought is that I can always retake in September, and this would provide a baseline. Looking for $$$ in the T14.

I think the consensus on TLS is that taking more times won't hurt you since schools only take the highest score anyway.SweetTort wrote:Considering sitting for June. If my PT average is 168, would it be foolish to only study for a month more if my goal is a 170+?

Did you jump from PT 30 to PT 60 or something?ponderingmeerkat wrote:OK dudes....I need to cathartically vent. I've always thought burn out was bullshit. People who got burned out were soft and needed an excuse for their weakness.
But, holy shit, I think I might be there right now. 60 hour work weeks, less than ideal third world country living conditions and every moment I'm not working, I feel like have to study. Things seemed to be going fine. I had a nice string of tests: 171, 173, 175, 174, 174. Solid, right? 10 weeks to go...what could go wrong, right?
But, I'm fucking losing it right now. I've taken 3 practice tests in the last two weeks. 164, 165, 163. What...the...fuck!
How do you just misplace 10 points? It's all logical reasoning too. I had that right where I wanted it too. I'd go -2 or -3. No big deal. Tonight I dropped a -9 on one goddamn section! I can't even keep my focus on the task at hand. My mind wanders...I have to reread the stimulus...sometimes twice.
I'm taking this whole weekend off, going to the gym getting good rest and see what that gets me.
But dude yeah I would just chalk it up to burn out and not worry about it too much. Taking the weekend off is a good idea. Then come back, do a hard review, and maybe some practice sections. Then do a PT when you're well rested and your mind is sharp and you'll probably bounce back. I've been in this boat too and this is how i got back on track.
Hope your work/living situation gets better soon man.

Hopped up to the 170's yesterday just to see if my scores would vary compared to the 150's and 160's.
PT 73, 177 (-3 LR, -1 LG, -1 RC)
Feeling good right now. Just gotta try to get that LR score down to -2 or below. Hoping to have a -2 or less average for each section by June.

Checking in.
This will be my third time taking the test after taking Oct and Dec 15 and getting the same scores both times. Had a decent admissions cycle, but am taking again with plans on waiting a year and reapplying with a better score if that turns out to be the case.
Was PTing in the mid to high 160s and occasionally broke 170 in preparing for the previous 2 tests. Scored a 163 on the real deal both times. I plan on retaking every test between June 2007-Dec 15 leading up to the test.

This may seem irrelevant to this thread at first but it's not. So I just got back from visiting NYU Law (had to do something around the area for school so figured why not go and check it out), and considering this is my top choice, I fell even more in love with it today! (still seems irrelevant to the LSAT huh?) Well fortunately, my visit really gave me even more motivation to kick the LSAT's ass!

this. more likely than not you may be running into slight changes that have appeared in new PTs.R. NYU's law school facilities are really good looking. Have you been inside Columbia's law building? I enjoy doing this as well. I am a metro-detroit guy and go out to Ann Arbor from time to time. Every time I'm in AA I drop by Hogwarts (aka Michigan Law) for some inspiration.TheMikey wrote:This may seem irrelevant to this thread at first but it's not. I loved NYU, and I haven't been to Columbia because I'm usually very busy and never go around Columbia's area :/ But I plan on it soon!R. Re: The Official June 2016 Study Group
Has anyone else dipped drastically when going from PTs in the 30s-50s to the 60s-70s?
I was averaging -3 on LR on the lower PTs and just took Section 1 in PT 64 and went -7! I hadn't done this badly in months and thought I was past this stage.
I BR'd (went through the whole section again) and got -2 so I'm attributing it to a lack of familiarisation with the new PTS, but still, this really shook me up...
panic mode fully engaged.

yup! this happened to me. Don't engage panic mode. It only takes a couple PTs and review to get the magic back.nerdylsat wrote:Has anyone else dipped drastically when going from PTs in the 30s-50s to the 60s-70s?

I was scoring in the high 170s on earlier PTs. I took PTs 62-71 early on in my prep, but I then I started working on the older PTs and continued working on them for a while. Then one day recently I took PT 72 and tanked to like a 169. After taking PTs 73 and 74 (got a 170 and 171 respectively) I did a thorough review of 72, 73, and 74. Took PT 75 and jumped back up to a 177.
So yeah, I def had to adjust going from the earlier to the later PTs. I think my solution will be to mix up the order of the PTs I take from here on out so as not to get too accustomed to certain LSAT question styles/trends.

Taking my first PT in months tomorrow. Been drilling with a new RC strategy, and it's been helping a lot, so fingers crossed.

Going to be taking my first PT in months also, but today. I also haven't reviewed since before I took the test in December, so I'm interested to see how it goes. I'll post my results here when I'm done.
