Re: The Official June 2015 Waiter's Thread
Is there any acknowledgement at the company that they're generally thought to be the worst prep company there is, or do they just not discuss it? Not trying to be rude or anything, and obviously none of us think less of you for working there, but I always wonder if companies that always get shat on on the internet ever discuss it or if it's one of those things you don't bring upbenwyatt wrote:Imma need you to calm downbuckiguy_sucks wrote:This is why Kaplan is a bad prep company amiright guysbenwyatt wrote:Someone on the conference call I'm on right now just typed "TOOT HAHAHAHAH" into the chat.
Because we're all super mature.

Re: The Official June 2015 Waiter's Thread
I started with Kaplan and I just found the trainer to be a lot more effective. my score jumped drastically anyway after the trainer...benwyatt wrote:
It never gets brought up. But I also don't really think it's accurate that we're the worst prep company. Obviously I don't want to get into a whole pissing contest ITT because a) not my job and b) not worth my time.
I'm also not sure what issues people actually have with Kaplan because I always just see "Kaplan is awful" or "Kaplan didn't work" but it's never clear why they think that. I know plenty of people who improved dramatically using Kaplan and I even taught a few of them myself (including a girl I took from a 123 [feel free to shit on her] to a 159) so I know that Kaplan can and has been effective.

Re: The Official June 2015 Waiter's Thread
I really only think Kaplan is useful at the lower end of the spectrum. I did some prep on my own before taking a Kaplan course and was in the 167-172 range for every PT. After the class I was still in the same PT range and ended up with a 169 on the real thing.
For what it's worth, I put in all of the recommended work and took the class seriously, I just don't think it has anything to offer for people who are already over 165 or so.

Pretty sure it has something to do with the philosophy of liberalism, such as Rawlsian liberalism, rather than any modern application of the word "liberal."whacka wrote:obviously it's a very nuanced usage of the word, but the general idea is that equality (at least substantive political equality) is a precondition for liberty, so philosophies like libertarianism, while probably the most absolutely "liberal," may be destructive to a sort of "higher" liberty.Op_Diom wrote:Hey have you guys ever wondered how 'liberals' received their label when generally it is assumed that such individuals favor increased economic regulations? Where's the sense in that?
Obviously that is not a perfect explanation, and it can be argued at many points, but I'm pretty sure that's how liberalism as a budding philosophy was morphed into American liberalism. I'd like to discuss it more, but I've gotta run.
