Re: DECEMBER 2014 WAITERS
Rigo, I completely understand where you're coming from. Whenever I talk about potentially retaking in September, my mom's like "That's not an option. Don't even think about it." My parents are positive I will be accepted in half of the T14s despite my low 160s LSAT score. They don't understand how important this test is in admissions. But, still, my mom wants me to apply to my state school which is T50 but NOT anywhere I would want to go. I know that if I apply to appease her and get rejected everywhere but there, she'll pressure me to go there. It drives me crazy.
My rant is just to show that many of us are in the same boat. We know what we want to do with our life... our parents want the best for us. But sometimes they don't know enough to call the shots.

I actually have a pre-1991 LSAT. It's really interesting and reallllyyyyy different.Dirigo wrote:I believe it changed to its current format in 1987. I know a lot of lawyers who tell me they never studied for the LSAT and did well... and they must have done decent to go to the schools they went to. If it is no different, I feel like an idiot for having to study and retake.

Rigo, I'm so sorry. That sucks. Sending many hugs your way. Have you tried showing them articles about how important what school you go to is? Don't feel ashamed if you have to start studying again. You know it will all pay off in the end. It is just difficult, I guess, for people not taking this test to see how you can study for months and months and still underperform on test day. They just see how we've studied so long and hard and have devoted our lives to this test and they don't get how it isn't over sometimes even after we've taken it and how we can't just say "oh well" to a mediocre score.
My parents have the opposite problem. They research stuff and then think they know more than me. It drives me insane.

Thanks for the feedback on that. The lawyer I was talking about took it pre 1987..so from what I am gathering, not only did the test itself change but it is also more competitive. *leaves desk with paper of facts in hand*

I've seen it. Some might say it's slow, but I liked it.IsThisForReal wrote:So my Aunt sent me a giant assorted popcorn basket and The Paper Chase as a law school congrats/Christmas present. Apparently it's a must see for incoming law students. Have any of you watched it?

Lol I think it's harder honestly.KAYCEE wrote:Thanks for the feedback on that. The lawyer I was talking about took it pre 1987..so from what I am gathering, not only did the test itself change but it is also more competitive. *leaves desk with paper of facts in hand*
ETA: Maybe harder isn't the right word. It just tests a lot more and the RC is way longer.

Oh really? In general, how would you say it is really different? The questions or the makeup of the exam?

Re: DECEMBER 2014 WAITERS
Yeah I've seen the pre 1991 tests too, and they're weird AF. The difference in difficulty is not the content of the test, but the competition. If you had good grades in 1975, you didn't need to score in the top 1% of test takers to go to Harvard. You just had to not be a boob.mist4bison wrote:Lol I think it's harder honestly.KAYCEE wrote:Thanks for the feedback on that. Thanks goodness my current position requires me to pull a Kalinda and do tons of research. Found it: http://files.eric.ed.gov/fulltext/ED469242.pdfKAYCEE wrote: Oh really? In general, how would you say it is really different? The questions or the makeup of the exam?

Ah this sounds tough. I am really lucky to have my fiance be totally understanding... I just retook for my third time, so I'm done now, but he just always wanted me to do my best and plus he has a good job so doesn't mind waiting.peppermint wrote:Guys, since we're real talking here, can I ask y'all something? For those of you in relationships, what do you say to your SO if he/she isn't fully agreeable to you going to law school and/or postponing/retaking the LSAT?

Re: DECEMBER 2014 WAITERS
I'm really lucky. My boyfriend has been very supportive and is telling me to just do what I think is best. He is applying to med schools for fall 2016 and he is fully on board with applying to places near where I end up for law school, even if we have no idea where that is right now. He took the MCAT, so I guess he knows how stressful these exams are.peppermint wrote:Guys, since we're real talking here, can I ask y'all something? AWESOME. you. are. awesome.

I also thought, in briefly reviewing them, that the questions were not as dense as they are now. Would do you think?
