Re: The Official September 2014 Study Group
I worked the June LG #4, and am I missing something? I thought that it was REALLY simple, just worded a little convoluted. Like, you dont even have to make separate game boards. Once you had your master game board you were set. I literally answered the questions in 5:30. It just took me about 30 seconds to process the stimulus

Just got absolutely rocked by the ski chalet miscellaneous LG from PT 4.
Haven't felt that bad about games in a while.

I think the fact that it was game 4, and the convoluted wording, was what made it hard. I think a lot of people had trouble because they thought about it too much and ran out of time before they realized it was quite a basic game.choward014 wrote:I worked the June LG #4, and am I missing something? What is TCR on warming up before an exam? What do you do before a PT?

PLEASE SOMEONE CORRECT ME IF IM WRONG, but I believe it does function the same way. Meaning "or" can mean both unless it's specifies "X or Y, but not both, are selected".gnomgnomuch wrote:Hey guys, does "or" function in logic games the same way as in logical reasoning?
"There will be at most one opening band or at most one special guest at each concert and each opening band and guest will play at exactly one concert."
I took this to mean that its EITHER an opening band OR special guest, but the books diagram drew in both as a scenario.
In LR, or could mean, one OR the other OR both, but I was always under the impression that in LG or excluded the possibility of both.

Okay what the hell.
Going through the "miscellaneous" (AKA: the forgotten few) section of the Cambridge LG packet and all of these games are ancient. So ancient apparently, that 7sage starts each video on them with, "you probably would never see this on a modern LSAT".
So then what's the point of drilling these?

Re: The Official September 2014 Study Group
Finally got back into the PTs after a long break and some RC drilling which really paid off!! Granted it was an old PT with timed section but I had an extra long break between section 3 and 4 because supper was ready so I'm skeptical of the score but:
PT 32
LR -3
RC -2
LG -1
LR -1
For a 175!!!

Because both Feb and June had one of those types of games.kbrizz wrote:Okay what the hell.

Guys - high scorers in particular - for drilling RC - individual passages or strictly timed sections with blind review?

Wow PT 48 has an absolutely brutal curve - 93 for a 170...I got another 168 which I seem to be stuck at lately but good thing is that I've finally identified my LR weakness more clearly which is flaw questions. 4/7 total LR questions I got wrong were flaw questions so I know where to focus!
LR1: -4
LG:-1 (Stupid mistake I usually catch but I somehow missed it..)
RC:-3
LG2: -3
Overall not too upset, just have to get LR in line as usual and make sure I don't make any dumb LG mistakes as that is my best section

I always did one or two easy games, about 10 easy LR questions and an easy RC section.HRomanus wrote:What is TCR on warming up before an exam? What do you do before a PT?
That way I had a confidence booster and was warmed up by the time I started.

Sloppiness is = to what? I think this might be my issue - I haven't found certain subject matter in particular super hard I dont think - I've drilled a bunch of science passages just in case cause I heard they were hard but seem to do okay on them.rebexness wrote:Depends on your weaknesses. I feel a bit shaky with getting my timing down correct, the last timed section of RC I did was 19/27. Might just drill more individual since I'm writing in December.. unless you can clairify what you mean by sloppy?!
Thanks.

Re: The Official September 2014 Study Group
Sloppiness, to me, is broadly underperforming. If I reviewed then said, "ah, man that was so obvious! I should have gotten that right," then obviously I was being sloppy. If you are underperforming in this way, you should be doing full timed sections with BR, imoflash21 wrote:Sloppiness is = to what? Re: The Official September 2014 Study Group
I usually do 1 RC passage, 1 LG, and 4 pages of LR for a condensed 35 minute section prior to PTs. As I am studying with usually one and sometimes two partners, for the LR we take turns answering one question at a time, vocalizing our thought process and not only identifying the right answer but also why the other answers are wrong/insufficient. We have found this methodology to be very effective in identifying and eliminating weaknesses when it comes to particular LR question types, and this is how we conduct LR review as well.HRomanus wrote:What is TCR on warming up before an exam? As for warming up before an exam, our study plan is loosely based off of the one posted by TLS1776 (/viewtopic.php?f=6&t=120471), though admittedly not as intense, and he advocates for doing a warm-up section on test day, usually one section each of RC and LG, preferably with familiar content that you can answer easily to give you a confidence boost going into the real thing.

I just did PT 44 and had similar score as you.
I'm going to try to stay calm just like you, which is really, really hard for me.
And I noticed RC has gotten harder than the earlier PT's.

I have no idea what happened on LR. I felt like I didn't understand what I was reading on half the questions, which is THE EXACT OPPOSITE of my last PT, in which I missed 3 each section and felt very confident.
Haven't had a bad LSAT day in a while, so I guess I was in line for one today.
Anyhow, review tomorrow, and see what exactly happened on LR.

Alrighty then. That takes care of that.

I'm not really sure what was going on with that particular PT, but I think it was just that we had a bad day on that one.
My next PT was back at my average (162) and then my next 2 were in the high 160s, but on those two I took the LR untimed, so if I had done it timed, my scores likely would have been in the low 160s as well, which is my average.
I don't know what happened that day but I just couldn't concentrate on what I was reading and royally screwed up all three sections. IIRC I hadn't taken a break in quite a while from LSAT prep, so maybe that was it?
You have the right attitude. It was likely a fluke for you as well. A very peculiar PT.

Been declining a point on the last three PTs since my high of 167 on PT 46. Ran out of time on both logic reasoning sections. Gotta try and get more quickly through the first ten. Also ran out of time on RC, and messed up the third logic game. I found it so difficult to efficiently represent those rules.
Tomorrow I'm going to engage in heavy review of PT 47 and PT 48 and hopefully learn something along the way. Also gotta keep drilling those Logic Games...

The discussion about miscellaneous and forgotten logic games has me pretty worried
I'm not sure if it's been discussed at any length earlier in the thread, but does anyone have any predictions of if that trend will continue for september/how it would manifest if so?

Seriously? What are you waiting for?
