rynabrius wrote:The case in chief of the OP is bizarre. True, money can be used to buy test-prep and game things like the LSAT. However, aptitude tests like the LSAT still afford much greater opportunities to the talented poor than heavy-investment markers like going to an Ivy League undergrad school. So, to attack the LSAT for causing a lack of intergenerational mobility seems to be putting the cart before the horse.

dresden: Sorry about the 'ad hom', I was just kidding around. If you had scored a little higher on the LSAT, you'd have realized that.

Perceived point. Again, I'm talking about the idea that anyone can get a 180 with enough effort.
I don't know who you hang out with. The idea that anyone can get 180 never had much currency around here at any rate. TLSers tend to have a modicum of understanding in re: how the curve works.

That's right. Nor South America.
IIRC this is exactly how the Monroe Doctrine was established as well

You got 171? What the hell are you then complaining about? Do remarks from people who think you failed miserably for scoring 9 points below 180 work you up so much that you just had to start this thread to rant to us all about it?

As for my call to action, it might be wrong, but that still doesn't convert it into an argument.
Well, just because I scored well doesn't mean all people that receive similar treatment did as well. I figure there are people out there with parents like mine but struggle to get 98th percentile. It was a place for them to vent.

 TLS + Powerscore is the great equalizer for us poors. What's that? What about the computer illiterate? They can GTFO my Americas.
as someone who has taught how to copy and paste and change the font size in the other americas, you computer literate need to get the fuck out of their americas.

Yeah this exactly. No one thinks 180 is easy

I am confused now as to how the title of this post relates to the content in this post.

...who's trivializing your score?

No one here thinks a 180 is easy, that doesn't deter people who have never seen the test from belittling those who did not get a 180. Again, this for people taking the lsat who get shit from people who have never taken the lsat.

Family. Believes if I would have tried harder I would have gotten 180.

Like I said, I think it is an offshoot from the American Dream...with enough hard work and effort ANYTHING is possible.

What do you care about people who've never taken the LSAT? As far as I've seen, those people don't even tend to know what the highest LSAT score is.

Next time someone trivializes your score, tell them about your percentile ranking. Problem solved.

I just thought it was a deeper issue than that. But yes, masking is always easier than rooting.

And what would you like to root, precisely? If you're deeply concerned about 'rooting,' there are greater causes to get on board with.

Also, while believing you can be exceedingly successful if you try hard enough doesn't always end well, it sure beats the hell out of believing you can never succeed no matter how hard you try.

But 5-10 points on the LSAT is just chump change, right?
Yeah, 5-10 points avg improvement will get you to the point where you don't get assigned classes at TPR. you need to be 9-15 avg improvement to keep getting classes and 14+ to be considered a great teacher. The avg improvement for one of our classes is 13 points.
RC fail.

Do all of your students at PR self-study the bibles before they come in?

I said 5-10 points AFTER studying the bibles.
ironic RC fail, did you not notice that I started with "yeah" indicating that I was agreeing with you that 5-10 points was in fact chump change improvement on the LSAT?

It was in reference to the earlier posts about how the LSAT is designed to keep down the poor.
