I just caught myself reading a LR stimulus out loud in a British documentarian voice. I need to stop.

Re: The Official December 2017 Study Group
Mmm I feel ya. I literally just started going -3 on LR sections from -10 and I think it’s because I’ve been telling myself “You've literally gotten more than 1,000 questions wrong. You’re best buddies with wrong answers so you should be able to tell by now what isn’t the correct answer.” And so I’m always wary of my instinctual answer choice on questions I’m more likely to get wrong (NA, flaw, weaken, and strengthen) and I just try to think back to all the correct answer explanations and use that logic to figure out the actual right answer. It works a majority of the time. I think that being aware of what I’m wrong in has really helped me foresee errors and correct them before I can even make them.AvatarMeelo wrote:ok last one from me for the night: finished reviewing and i made a lot a lot of stupid mistakes - moreso for LR bc I think the RC was a lot of bs. Tips on preventing stupid mistakes? Like there are 2/3 questions I can read over and over again and just not understand and I'm more than okay with losing the points on them. What pisses me off though is the 3/4 questions where I might've had the right thinking or approach and what not, but somehow overlook the right AC and try to justify a wrong AC.
I'm drilling LR tomorrow I think b/c this is kind of where it seems there are points to be had. I managed to get it down to -4/-4 in drilling yesterday, so hoping I can bring it down to -2/-2.
I'm just hoping I can keep my head straight for Saturday, a relatively moderate RC with moderate questions, and games where I don't freeze up. that's it. That's all I want. pls.

Typically a "project" with a decision that has two sides. You are supposed to pick a side and explain your reasoning behind your decision!PrezRand wrote:What's the writing section like? Completely forgot about it LOL

Taking PT 81 Today and reviewing tomorrow and then I'll be done. Retaking a 168 so I hope I score at least a 170. Honestly I didn't study much this time around but hopefully my lack of pressure allows me to score higher

Re: The Official December 2017 Study Group
how long does it take you guys to read an RC passage, on average?
usually about 3 mins for me
e: it used to take me almost 4 mins to read an RC passage a very long time ago. through tons of practice I got it down to 3 mins, sometimes like 2:40 or so. this might still be slow for some of you but I'm fucking proud AF that I've gotten to this timing point, even if I still suck ass at RC

Yeah I'm right around there as well. I think it benefits you to go slower b/c you can usually answer all question that are about the passage as a whole without having to revert back to the passage in most cases. I also think it helps you in remembering the location of details for all detail-oriented question quicker.Mikey wrote:how long does it take you guys to read an RC passage, on average?

I think I'm around 3/4 per. I've tried speeding up but that usually ends with me having to go back to the passage more during the questions. The only thing I've added to my strategy since September is putting marks next to any line that gives me clues to the authors true feelings on the topic.

Probably a pretty stupid question, and maybe it's been answered somewhere, but what does a test-day LSAT look like? Will it say PT "X" on the front or just be blank? Is it pretty similar to an individual preptest? Is there any indication of the ordering of sections anywhere in the first several pages? Or does the order of sections just kind of get revealed to you randomly as the test goes on?

Re: The Official December 2017 Study Group
Wow, I'm blanking on what it does say but I can definitely tell you it does not sat PrepTest X or whatever. I don't think it's blank and I'm almost positive there's a box with a serial number that aligns with whatever score sheet the computer program will use. There's no indication of the ordering of the sections - though the pages are thin enough that you can probably guess what's coming up next.239840 wrote:Probably a pretty stupid question, and maybe it's been answered somewhere, but what does a test-day LSAT look like? Re: The Official December 2017 Study Group
Yeah see that's where I make stupid mistakes because I see a word that doesn't click for me in my head and then I end up eliminating it without giving it a second shot. I'm reviewing my incorrect answers for the last few PTS right now, probs gonna review some chapters in the Manhattan book because I noticed I'm starting ot blank on Weaken and NA questions, and then drill a bit more.239840 wrote:Mike Kim gives some good advice on this I think: namely, never answer LR questions in a vacuum. If you ignore the other ACs and focus solely on one, you may convince yourself it's right, but there may be a better answer (granted, it seems like it's mostly in the last 5-10 questions where they have a couple plausible-seeming answers). And there are two ways to the right answer choice: you can get there by eliminating the wrong answers, and by identifying the right one.AvatarMeelo wrote:ok last one from me for the night: finished reviewing and i made a lot a lot of stupid mistakes - moreso for LR bc I think the RC was a lot of bs.
