I think that's exactly what it is. At least that's what I've heard from previous employers and friends who recruit. I'm in charge of hiring new people for my position when I leave and will need to read writing samples, and can't envision myself reading more than the first page. However, I will say that my current supervisor handed me a copy of the writing sample I submitted that had been edited in red pen when I started at this job. It's kind of a toss up on what kind of person is reading it.Mint-Berry_Crunch wrote:Thanks!mist4bison wrote:When I applied to jobs that required writing samples I ended up editing an old essay to bring it up to snuff. Tbf, it was already pretty good and just needed a little tweaking. If you have any that you think are decent, I'd go ahead and edit one of them and submit it. Honestly, I'm convinced that future employers only read the first couple paragraphs, unless it's a job that's very heavy in writing skills.Mint-Berry_Crunch wrote:Anyone ever apply to jobs that require a writing sample? I'm looking at some, and none of my old college essays really seem to cut it. Most of my work I've deleted and what remains is pretty mundane.I do have some other papers/proposals from an internship, but I feel like I would need to get their approval which could be a hassle. Debating about drafting something that I can use specifically for job writing samples. Just an opinion where I cite things and argue stuff. Any thoughts/ pointers?
Yeah, I'm debating about using a personal statement I used to apply for a masters program. It's quirky and not terribly written, but short. Using that proposal would be interesting as well. One of the positions I'm looking at, I'm horribly underquified for :/.
Probably overthinking, they probably just want something that says "hey I can make sentences and convey thought".

Same, doubt I'll worry too much about it until after the test though.
As I recall this was discussed the 13/14 cycle (and I'm sure most cycles) and it was really on a case by case basis, there were certain schools where some said yes to do that and others to not do it, but if you tell them to expect a new LSAT score I would assume they are gonna do nothing more than label your file incomplete until said score arrives and at that point you would go in the list. My plan is to have everything ready and the day the score is official send off what apps I want to, and contemplate if I need to wait until December.
I work in admissions for a grad school now and that's exactly what we would do. If an applicant tells me they are retaking the GRE, I just hold their application until I get their new scores. The professors who sit on the admissions committee are busy enough, so they don't care to read an incomplete application. They won't look at it until it's totally complete and finished.

If I do a full PT, I will usually wait until the next day to BR.Judge-a-saurus wrote:Quick question:
Do most people here PT and blind review in the same day or push of BR until the next day? For those that BR in the same day as they PT, how long a break in between do you take?
Would post this in a separate thread, but it doesn't seem to be super-important.
@RedFred, I'm loving that dinosaur game! Just wishing that they had a Judgeasaurus in it lol
If I don't have time to do a full PT, and do just a timed section, I will usually BR the section right after.

Took PT 54 today and was thrown off for a loop on LG for the first time! It was the stupid Cake Layer game! I labeled it 1-2-3-4-5-6 from the top to bottom when it should have been 6-5-4-3-2-1

No luck, they don't break down the June test like that. Just in a set point in the cycle.
But we do know test takers up about 6.5% and first time test takers up 10%

Re: The Official October 2015 Study Group
Took the night off to watch the debate. Here are my grades, let me know if you agree:
Trump-C
Christie-B
Paul-D
Carson-B+
Rubio-A+
Huckabee-A
Kasich-A-
Walker-B-
Bush-C
Cruz-A
Was pleasantly surprised with Rubio's performance. Cruz has always been a great debater so no surprise there. Huckabee was also very solid.
Thought Paul came off as arrogant, wasn't impressed at all. Carson had a bit of a rough start but recovered at the end.
Kasich I thought also did pretty well. Christie was decent and entertaining. Bush was just average, seemed uncomfortable.
Trump was just Trump. Think he hurt himself tonight. I think the Trump hype is gonna come to an end very quickly---the guy never can never answer a question substantively.

I'm stuck in a 167-169 scoring hell.
I'm blind reviewing PT 56 now, and I'm going to PT tomorrow. Sunday will be more blind review and some drilling.

Yes. I'd like to see a ¨where are you currently PTing" poll. I think someone suggested doing this and then another in a month to see the differences.pittsburghpirates wrote:New poll time?

I want to buy the LSAT Watch before I start taking fully timed preptests. My retake plan as of now has been to do everything from 31-61 individually, every game and passage under 8:45, and untimed for LR. Then, re-do everything I get wrong, and then take 62-71 fully timed, blind review, and use groups of LG/RC that I got wrong from 31-61 as the EXP sections.

I personally though Rubio's talking points came across as way too canned for me, not nearly as organic as a Kasich. Again, just my opinion.179orBust wrote:Took the night off to watch the debate. Here are my grades, let me know if you agree:

Could not stop thinking this throughout the entire debate.Mint-Berry_Crunch wrote:Huckabee looks like Nixon.
Meh, I agree on some and disagree on others. I don't think Carson saved himself at all. He's a terrible speaker. He's not engaging at all. I agree that Paul and Bush didn't do well, though. I think Christie did pretty decently. He was the most engaging speaker in my opinion. A lot of the time he seemed like the only one who had prepared for the debate at all. Trump was a little worse than I expected; he definitely lost a lot of people last night. His answer to the first question Kelly asked him made me fume.179orBust wrote:Took the night off to watch the debate. Here are my grades, let me know if you agree:
