How does one get the opportunity to do something so cool? If you don't mind me askingshineoncrazydiamond wrote:Do it! I am working with a small but really fantastic local organization that does a lot of community-based environmental/occupational health work and related program development, addressing gender stereotypes, etc with cooperatives of (super awesome!) women working in construction in peri-urban areas south of the city. I'm really using my Spanish and trying to learn Quechua. I love the work and the people with whom I work, and am living in a house with folks from all over the world (and my s/o) so it has been fantastic so far (only been here for two weeks, home sick today hence more posting than usual-I am often at community meetings until 10 pm). I'm taking May-July to travel through other parts of South America and maybe working my way up to Central.lizzielemon wrote:That's awesome! What are you doing out in Bolivia if you don't mind me asking? Must be an great experienceshineoncrazydiamond wrote: I'm currently living in Bolivia. I definitely felt it for the first couple of days (especially on day 3 at Carnaval and the associated drinking/being out in the sun all day). I also do a lot of hiking and climbing at pretty high elevations (and did so when I lived approx. at sea level) and my experience is that you should give yourself a day or two to acclimate before doing anything strenuous (or any copious drinking) and then you should probably be ok! Aspen and all of Colorado (at least the mountainous part) are beautiful and totally worth it (although I am more of a hiker/climber than a skier).
I want to take 2-3 months off before law school myself and go to a few countries. If only this damn score would come out so I can know where I'm attending, and then leave my job and travel!!

For some reason... I absolutely detest that song. Hearing it actually annoys me, no joke.Li'l Sebastian wrote:Right now "Release your inhibitions, feel the rain on your skin" is playing in my uni's gym.

Re: The Official February 2016 Waiter's Thread
I actually found this organization in a fairly roundabout way. One of my profs had told me about a different organization in the same city that seemed like it could be a good fit, but they didn't have any open positions (and wouldn't for a while for political reasons). However, they recommended this other organization that helps match you with opportunities in the city (if any are relevant to your background and accept you) and I'm so glad they did!dhwz175 wrote:

PM me if you want more info on the organization or anything!

Favorite lifting track: March of Pigs (Nine Inch Nails)
Favorite running/cardio track: Bleed It Out (Linkin Park)
Track that is on every single general work out playlist: A mashup of Kyary Pamyu Pamyu's "Pon Pon Pon" and Major Lazer's "Pon de Floor" aka - PONPONPON de Floor. Also Fashion Monster.
...
I got really into working out when I was at Middlebury's summer language school for Japanese so there's a lot of J-Pop on my workout playlists don't judge me.

This reminds me of my dentist. I sweat to god, I have waited everytime but once when I was there.AbbeyS wrote:Dude I came to the dermatologist today...if you've ever been, you know how hard it is to get these appointments...well finally here I am. To be fair, I think it's the receptionists fault not the dentist's. One time she booked me for a 9:30 am appointment, knowing that the dentist doesn't come in until 10. Like the dentist wasn't running late, it was just her normal time.

Yeah at the dermatologist it's like...come in & wait. They call you but NOPE it's just your updated medical history. Turn that in. Wait. Get called 6 days later. Go back into your exam room. Wait 9 years. See doctor for 3 seconds flat. Wait in line to finalize insurance coverage with lady up front. Torture

I could never. I use Beats headphones (not the lil ear ones) cause it blocks sound out the best. If I forget them at home I'll literally drive all the way back home...can't get into cardio without loud musiczeglo wrote:I don't use headphones at the gym. It's distracting carrying stuff around. Oh yeah. I've been for a run once without headphones. I ended up singing quietly to myself, and towards the end I definitely went through some old drum routines, causing everyone I ran past to think I'm crazy.AbbeyS wrote:I could never. Headphones are the only thing I use amazon prime for. If I don't have them, I'm lost.

Same. I just use my bose in-ear sports. They're noise cancelling and work amazing without the ear pain!
