That's a good plan - Thanks for the tip! I had been wondering what the usual procedure is - whether pushing it to 12:00 at the beginning of each section or trying to gauge 35 min starting wherever the minute hand is.TheMikey wrote:You can use a normal watch and for each section just push it to 12:00. That's what I did except I never did it during PT, only on the real thing. This worked out for me but definitely try and get used to it for the real thing.Alexandros wrote: - Use something resembling an analog watch
I don't currently own an analog watch (or a watch at all. God, that's terrible.) so I'm using the analog clock on the 7sage app, to at least get used to the visual aspect. Acquiring an analog watch is the next step.

Reviewing the last PT where I missed 4 LG q's, and I'm realizing that it was all on one game, stemming from one mistake-- I read one of the rules as W instead of M.
Going to start triple-reading the rules.

My prep for the next 3 months is going to be basically entirely LG and RC. I feel pretty good about going -1/-0 on LR.

LG and RC looks like they'll probably be my top priorities as well. It's fantastic that you've got LR down so well. Hoping to get there at some point, but, as evidenced by my last PT, I've a ways to go on that too. Ah well. Vigilance!SweetTort wrote:Alexandros wrote:Feel that :/SweetTort wrote:I'm trying to get to the point where a -0 on LG is a foregone conclusion. Took PT 62 Saturday and it was an absolute disaster (156). Haven't touched anything LSAT for the past few days, I'm going to B.R. it today, but I feel it was probably a product of burnout considering I had been doing stuff for around 4+ hours for 2 straight weeks. I don't plan on PT'ing again until I can get my LR up to around -4 or -5.

Man, I've probably blown 200+ bucks on printing since I started studying. Small investment for a big payout, but still. Between books, printing, hotel, registration, pencils, etc., I'll probably be hitting 1500+ by the end of this.

180ing --> Budget'
Budget --> 180ing'
I don't know whether that is a strong reference or whether it really dates me. Then again, I date myself way beyond my years sometimes with my taste in music. Like... Akon w/ Matoma - Stick Around is amazing. Why? That sweet throwback to Unchained Melody in the hook.
A family friend let me use his office's copier. Ours is fairly defunct. I don't think he had any idea what he got himself into. I actually felt bad and asked whether it was OK at multiple times throughout the process.
71-80 was a bit harder. Missed two. One of the two I kind of knew that I would miss. The other I missed, because it was something new [still sort of thought I missed it]. It's something I should have gotten though. For anyone interested, basically the stimulus [Dec 07 LR1 #16 MBT] said that Quantity A must be greater than the sum of Quantity B and C. The correct answer choice was that Quantity A must be greater than Quantity B. It sounds pretty straight forward, but the wording was screwy. Currently 74/80 I think.

Re: The Official September 2016 Study Group - STEADY GRINDN' (new OT pole)
I am in the process of gathering the materials I am going to use to study. I know for sure that I want to take a class (due to the typical reasons people like live classes over online classes ), and am trying to figure out what other materials to make use of to supplement the class/utilize until the class begins in August.
It is coming down to PR and PS because these are the only two that offered in person classes before the Sept. test here in Columbus, Ohio. I am heavily leaning towards PS, but would love to hear any advice about PR vs. PS. Or, any advice concerning self study vs. in class study as I am not 100% certain that I could not get the job done on my own.
About the self study materials, I am pretty confident that I am going to get the LG and LR bible. They are PowerScore materials anyway, so I am thinking that they should fit in nicely with a powerscore class, and are reviewed highly on this and other sites anyway. I have a little over a month now until the classes would start so I was thinking about also utilizing 7sage material and maybe maybe maybe the LSAT trainer.
I am really hoping that this community of super helpful, knowledgeable individuals can help me sort through all of this! Thanks in advance.

Heyya everyone
I have yet to finish a single section under time when it comes to PTs. Dos anyone have some ideas to decrease how much time I'm using?
This is for all sections across the board.
I have always been a slow reader but its really been hurting me lately. I have some of the skills coming together but literally have about 7 questions on LR when time is up and about 5-7 on RC. Does this just come with time?
Thanks in advanced for the help!

I took PS last summer and have no complaints. It may not be completely necessary for you to pick up the LGB/LRB though just because it is covered through the curriculum.rowdesefer wrote:I am in the process of gathering the materials I am going to use to study. When I first started working on LR about a month ago I would never finish a section in time. Now I finish about 1-2 minutes early. What helped me most is just being aware of how much time I have left, and not spending over 1 minute and 30 seconds on each question, and also being aware if an LR question is sucking up too much time, to just make my best guess and move on.CoGar wrote:Heyya everyone

You'll definitely get better with practice. Start to make benchmarks for yourself, such as doing the first 10--which are usually the easiest---in 10 minutes. Then work on doing the first 15 in 15 minutes. Then you save yourself time for the ones that are going to be more challenging and take longer. Questions like parallel flaws and such take longer, and thus, you'll have a bit more time. This is what has worked for me anyways.
Also, just naturally doing them more and more will make you faster. By virtue of getting better via practice at questions across the board, you'll be able to eliminate the wrong ACs faster.

81-90, 9/10. Was unsure of the one I got wrong.
Does anyone know of any resources that go over the relatively few math [I use that term with hesitation, as it barely qualifies as math] issues that present themselves on the test? It seems to be typically pretty basic stuff, but I rather not be as hesitant on these.
Examples being [and I hate even using the term math as it's so basic but I just don't deal with sort of "abstract" "math" all that often right now.]
A > B + C therefore A must be greater than C. [Some question about pilot fees.]
Area D is made up of A, B, and C. A, B, & C get a share of D's total revenue based on their proportion of the population. A's share decreased despite an increase in population. [Question about Ditrama, Korva, Mitro, and Guadar.]
I want to refresh to make sure I remember these things cold. Most of them are things I'm sure I know, but I don't want to waste time thinking about it on the test. Ultimately, fear of uncertainty made me pick wrong answer choices in these two cases.

Just finished 11 out of 18 of the Advanced Features and Techniques games PTs 1-20. Blech, some of these are the sort I really hope I don't run into on a real test.
Going to take a little break to photocopy and work on LR and RC.

Re: The Official September 2016 Study Group - STEADY GRINDN' (new OT pole)
What are some recommendations for studying for the LG section? It is BY FAR my worst section, and seriously dragging down my score. I've consistently been scoring around 160 with only being able to complete 1-2 games, and getting a couple of questions (max 2) wrong on each. I would seriously appreciate any suggestions/ people sharing how they were able to improve their accuracy/ time.
My current study regime is taking a 4 section PT each night, and then reviewing it during the next day. I print out a fresh copy of the game, and do it as I follow along with the corresponding 7Sage video, pausing to give myself time to figure out the answer as I go along, and then checking my technique/ answer against the video. My biggest problem is that once the game is explained, of course it makes perfect sense, but I am unable to get to that level of confidence/understanding prior to watching an explanation.
I'm only on PT 5 — but I began studying in March. I have definitely seen an improvement in my abilities (when I started I literally could not complete a game), is it possible that this might just be a slow and steady improvement situation?
Basically, I'm just getting a little frustrated because I've barely experienced improvement, and I'm wondering if someone is in a similar situation.
Thanks!

I feel you, BRing my last one right now and I went -12 on RC (wtf?). Half of that was because of some bubbling error which I'm pretty sure I've never done before but still, going through RC mistakes is a pain in the assthatlawlkid wrote:Went -10 on reading comp from my pt on Saturday, Should be a fun time dragging that up

It may not sound it, but that's a good place to be. If you are getting only 8-10 points on LG in total, you could see huge improvement just through that section alone. Like 6+ points easy, and probably closer to +10 with effort.rosieposie12 wrote:What are some recommendations for studying for the LG section? TBH, I think you should read PowerScore LG Bible [LSAT trainer if you're really unfamiliar with the test] and work through it. It shouldn't take that long. I was shocked at how short that book is... huge font & lots of negative space. After that, move onto Manhattan LSAT. I would basically just read a section and drill that game type repeatedly. After you are comfortable with accuracy and timing, move onto the next game type. I think with 3D ordering [as Manhattan calls it] you can probably move on *a little* sooner [this is where I'm at], as the games seem to mix in elements of other types. I have the Cambridge packets [ not available ] but there are other ways to get logic games sectioned off by type.
What I did [although you may want someone with more command over LG...I'm just sort of beastly at ordering IMO]...
LSAT Trainer as my intro to the LSAT
PowerScore LG Bible as my intro to LG
Manhattan LSAT & Copious Drilling for each game type until I can do every game in under [preferably] or very close to the 7sage recommended time with no errors. What I would do is every relative ordering game. I'd do it again a day later [or hours later] and, after a break, I would go through the questions untimed for 100% accuracy. I would see what I got right and wrong. If I got everything right all three times, I'd watch the 7sage but more towards bed or something where I'm not as focused but focused enough to make sure I didn't miss an inference that'd make the game go faster. If I missed any questions, I would diligently watch the video, especially if I got anything wrong while doing it untimed.
Seriously? What are you waiting for?
Now there's a charge.
Just kidding ... it's still FREE!
