Re: The Official June 2016 Study Group
Hopping back in this thread.
Last two PTs (56, 57) have been a 165 and a 167 - target score is 170.
Luckily, all of the errors were "little things" and a bit of timing, all of which can be learned and corrected.
Just for reference, I my cold diagnostic was a 149 almost a year ago - it's been a fun uphill climb.
I'll be dropping by this thread every post-study session to update scores (2 PTs a week - usually at 5AM [morning crew, represent!]) and, more importantly, try to encourage people as well as help when I can.
I would love nothing more than see all of the regular posters hit their goals and the day test scores are released be a time of celebration and camaraderie.

in case you are doing old pts first, it may be useful to do recent pts early on as the test has changed and some section such as rc have become tougher and lr subtler.

Yes, I am making my way into the more recent tests. My strategy was to take the most recent ones closest to the actual test date.
That being said, I have taken a spattering of more recent tests as well as marching through the old ones.. I personally have found LR to be more ambiguous/subtle in the older tests. I think this is up for debate.

I think "subtler" actually means harder.. in other words the correct answer does not stand out as immediately.
Again, this is just my opinion... but I think LR as a whole has gotten more difficult, but that earlier PTs have some LR questions that are extremely difficult because of the subtle differences between two seemingly correct answers.
Also am I having big time dejavu? This exact thing has been discussed somewhere before on this site.

yeah. I think lr has become harder to score well on in recent pts. the difference between the credited choice and trap could depend on a subtler distinction or word and the logic is more informal than older pts.HennessyVSOP wrote:lol absolutely notrailyard wrote:LR has become easier?appind wrote:congratsbeenoparte125 wrote:177 today on PT 26! I'm throwing my hat in the ring for the June exam, will be taking at at UW-L in LaCrosse, WI. Going to start poking around here to see how to develop a study plan. I'm a good test taker, just passed the CISSP exam in February with two weeks study. Hoping to find the same success with the LSAT.
I don't plan to take a course, looking for self-study tips. I'll report back if I find anything really valuable. And with my score, of course.
Best of luck to all.

Just took PT 68 September 2009.
1. LR -5 (20/25)
2. RC -5 (22/27)
3. LG -5 (17/23)
4. LR -5 (20/25)
Timing issues really cost me on the first LR and the LG section.
Randomly missed 2 questions on the first game of the LG section. I thought it was pretty easy.
If I can kill this time anxiety I will be in great shape.
Now onto the review, where the real learning takes place.

Considering it's my undergrad, I would have loved to take it there but oh well!
This city is too stressful, I can't imagine trying to catch the train out to QC in the A.M.

I live in Brooklyn also, but chose not to take the test at Brooklyn College. Read great things about Wagner College so signed up there, worth the 25 minute drive IMO.

Wondering if I should do 3 PT's some weeks (maybe every other week) or if that's too much. I'll play around with it and see.

Re: The Official June 2016 Study Group
IMO it depends on how much you're able to review your mistakes from the PT you've just taken. I've never taken the LSAT before, so I don't know what it's like to be on top of your shit heading into the final stretch, but I would assume that the story is the same as it is during this stage of one's prep: PTs aren't really meaningful practice unless you're truly able to understand the mechanics of each question you struggled with. If you take PTs and can't thoroughly go over them, I'm not sure you're getting more value than if you took fewer but reviewed them more carefully.Rigo wrote:Wondering if I should do 3 PT's some weeks (maybe every other week) or if that's too much. Re: The Official June 2016 Study Group
As ayylmao (lol) said, effective review is the most valuable thing you can get from preptests, so if that schedule doesn't allow you enough time to review your mistakes thoroughly, cut it down to 2. You should be going through all the wrong answers for any questions you got wrong, and be able to pinpoint the reasons why each of them are incorrect. And pay attention to any patterns in those questions as well. If you're getting a lot of Flaw questions wrong, it might be more productive to re-examine that question type from square one, then drill a bunch of practice problems, than to rush into another preptest.Rigo wrote:Wondering if I should do 3 PT's some weeks (maybe every other week) or if that's too much. I'll play around with it and see.
The other things that taking full preptests build, provided you are taking them under the official LSAC timing restrictions, are endurance and a sense of the rhythm needed to take the actual test. So it's definitely admirable that you want to take more preptests - it should make the 3 1/2 hour marathon feel a lot more manageable.. As I tell my Blueprint students, just don't blaze through them. Instead, learn as much as you can about your progress with each test.
Seriously? What are you waiting for?
Now there's a charge.
Just kidding ... it's still FREE!
