Anyone take an LSAT class (ie. Testmasters) and then read the LRB right after and see a solid improvement on their LR sections? or is it more for people that havent had any formal instruction or studying done yet where they see the big improvements. Obviously I know it wont hurt and it will be beneficial to do so, just curious on gauging how I might improve.

Also did people start seeing the most improvement once they started taking timed Preptests? I feel I have the a lot of logic parts of the test down, just need to focus on timing. Dont want to miss more than 5 on any section.

took prep test 54 today. Raw score 73, scaled score 157
Section 1 RC -14 ( used old method)
Exp section RC -7( used symbols and briefly jotted down important info- new method)
Section 3 LR-4
Section 4 Games-2
Section 5 LR-8
I really like using the LRB in addition to my online class ( its PR). I find that tackling question types constantly helps make the right answer jump out at me. need to slow down on the last section. Finished each section of LR with 6 minutes to spare. Need to slow down. Just realized that if i switched my experimental sections, i would have had a 161. WOW!!!!

I also have noticed this trend.
prep test 32 143 ( ice cold diagnostic)
prep test 38 145
prep test 48 149
prep test 50 152
prep test 44 152
prep test 45 156
prep test 54 157
Its possible to increase your scores and work a full time job. I am currently taking a princeton review course, reading hte LRB and LGB, and using those references for extra help, and do at least 20 lr questions from the 20s and 30's, 2 games and 2 lr sections a night. I am posting my scores so far as motivation for those who start out low, that if you put work in it, you can see an increase in your scores. Im also doing this to keep myself motivated for october, and on target for my goal of 160+

Yeah dude. I'm working too. I think taking tests after work has a significant impact on your score/concentration. However, there's no better way to simulate fatigue.

I took my cold diagnostic in february. Didnt touch anything from February until the end of June. Used that time for some soul searching, and to figure out what I wanted to do with my life, and get some things in order. Once I was 110% sure I wanted to give law school a shot, i started studying, and havent looked back.
i have to admit that working full time has forced me to set a study schedule and stick to it. It also has made me use my time effectively. For me, setting every night from 8-1030/11 to study has actually made it easier to get things done, and be able to ahve some balance with my life, although my social life will be non existant from this weekend until october 9th. At least I will save some money. Ha!
Im not content with my scores yet, but I know that by fine tuning a couple of things here and there, I'll be as ready as I can be come october. This thread has been very helpful and motivating!

PrepTest 29
October 1999
Score 171
Raw Score 90
LR -3
RC -2
LG -5
LR -1
This is indeed my highest timed. My strategy seemed to have paid off in the sense that when I became so frustrated with my LG timing (I can usually finish 3 games with an almost perfect record), I decided to focus more on LR the past few weeks. I noticed that the more I improved on LR, the more I did on RC as well. I finished both LR sections with about 5 mins to spare. I had time to go over the ones i marked as asterisks, and transfer onto the answer sheet. The real test though will be when I start taking the PTs in the 40s and 50s. In the meantime, I am going to go get a well deserved ice-cream.
I've come a long way since i scored a 143 on my diagnostic.

I've been taking somewhat of a break from the LSAT. Lots of work + the headache from hell today (I think I have to give up cheese. Cheese --> Headache, -Headache --> -Cheese. Not sufficient to eliminate cheese to avoid headaches, but necessary). I am afraid to start back up again. In particular the games section is creeping me out. Wednesday I will be super organized I will have a folder I will designate I will triumph. I will not eat cheese.

Congrats! 171 is my highest timed too. It's definitely a good feeling to break into the 170s! I'm kind of nervous to take my next test, though. I didn't really know if I actually could be in the 170+ club...

Wouldn't it be hilarious if some mod decided to send an e-mail titled "Your October 09, 2010 LSAT Score" to everyone posting in this thread, preferably with that 4 chan troll face (enlarged) as message body?

i haven't taken a PT since my last one and i'm getting psyched out that i'm going to do poorly (bad dreams and all that). my biggest fear is RC--i know same old broken record. but last night i was just doing sections untimed for stay fresh and i still got like -7 on RC, everything else was -0 or -1/2!
as far as experimental sections i've been working a brain child of getting having the test and experimental section, having a friend mark each section with a symbol and put the corresponding symbol on the answer key so when i got to take it I don't know which section is experimental but when i grade it i'll know which ones to grade. sounds convoluted but i think it'll work, first practice run is tonight!

Suck it up! It's better to know where you stand than to be afraid of knowing. Don't let your fear paralyze you!
Ehh. I just reminded myself of Donnie Darko.

LG 41 (-5).
First three games were simple enough, felt good and confident heading into game 4. Then they decide to throw in a circular linear game, which hasn't appeared since the H.W. Bush administration, when the Blue Jays and Twins were good baseball teams. Those sadists! I guess it could be worse though. I could have been one of those unlucky souls to have this on a real test.
Anybody tried setting this game up like a standard linear game, disregarding the circular aspect?

Circular are my favs of the "non-common" games. I actually kind of like them. I would personally find it difficult to visualize "across from each other" with a linear setup. Also, you would have to mentally juggle that 1 and 8 were next to each other. But, I guess you could set it up that way?

So I just had a nice laugh while doing Kaplan Mastery. Some questions make me laugh because they sound so silly, but this one was funny because of the name of one speaker.
Kaplan Master page 373. Parallel reasoning question 42.
The first argument is put forth by "Situation". LOL. I just couldnt help but picture his face while reading this question.
On a positive and surprising note, I did exceptionally well on these parallel reasoning questions. I timed myself strictly. I did the first 20 questions in 25 minutes and the final 22 in 30 minutes (since they were "tougher) and I only got - 6 in a section of 42 questions. Thats pretty awesome considering that these were parallel reasoning questions, the scorn of many LSAT test takers.
Im happy.

congrats! especially on the time!

I find i can eventually figure out the parallel reasoning but it may take me upwards of 3 minutes which kills overall LR rhythm.

Thank you. I used the powerscore method of matching the method of reasoning, the conclusion, the premises and the validity of the argument. Very helpful strategy.

I was half way through the first section of preptest 54 on saturday and started feeling really sick, so bad I couldn't concentrate, not good, hopefully doesn't happen on the real one. But plan I restarting it and taking it again next weekend.
