I think the LR was pretty easy. That stupid hansel and Gretel RC passage threw me off though.

Re: The Official June 2014 Study Group
Hey guys! So I have PTs 19-28; 29-38; 52-61 (those three 10 actual... books), and the Superprep book with tests A,B,C. I don't plan on buying anymore than that (I also have the LR & LG Bible and the Manhattan RC, I'm working through them but that's a different story). I'm wondering, in what order should I take these tests? Should I go in chronological order? Thank you for any tips you can give!
P.S. I already took June '07 as my diagnostic.

Since you don't plan to buy any more, I would say that the newest ones you have will be the most valuable, as they'll be the most like the current test. As such, I'd do the old ones first, when you're months away and accuracy is less important than learning. Use the new ones close to the test.arhoogie wrote:Hey guys! Re: The Official June 2014 Study Group
Hey friends!
Today I took PT 54, and I scored my first ever live-action 170 (Blind Review: 180). Here's the breakdown:
RC: -8 (-2)
LR: -0!
LG: -0!
LR: -2 (-0)
OK, so obviously RC is my Achilles' heel. It was the first section, and I felt really fuzzy the whole time. I think this proves that I need a solid warm up. (And I clearly need to drill more RC.) Once I got to the first LR, I finally hit my stride. Timing was an issue all the way through, however. In RC, I barely had time to bubble. I finished the first LR at 35:00 on the dot. LG was around 32:00. In the second LR, I was rushing to keep up with my 15 in 15:00 goal, and I missed questions 11 and 13. Finished the section in 30:30. If I had taken my time early on, I would have gone -0. Hopefully my timing issues are due to the fact that I've only taken 3 fully timed PTs. I hope it will improve as I grow more accustomed to the time constraints.
So this week will be all about RC. I haven't really drilled much yet, so I'm kicking it into overdrive. My goal is to power through half of the passages 1-38 this week. I will time them individually. No excuses, everyone! Now is the time for steady improvement.

I want to study extra hard this week just so I can top the straw man
. We need some friendly competition here haha. You guys are rockin' it so far! Good job misty! I still cannot decide if I should take my first new diagnostic this Saturday with Kaplan or not. I still haven't done much RC stuff yet and I haven't drilled strengthen/weaken yet either!

^ This. You should definitely just go ahead and take the thing. No harm can possibly come of it. (Unless you happen to catch the Kaplan fever!)mist4bison wrote: Walt: You should go for it. I'm assuming it's proctored by Kaplan? If nothing else, it's good practice. And if this is your first since your original, I'm sure you'll have improved a ton.
But for real, take the test, and recognize that the score doesn't matter at all. The only score that matters is the one we get on June 9th. (Or rather, some 30 anxiety-ridden days after June 9th.) It's a diagnostic. Every test we take from now until June is a diagnostic. If we don't take them regularly, we won't have data to help us target our weaknesses. But the score is irrelevant.
Food for thought,

Re: The Official June 2014 Study Group
Way to go on the 180 on blind review, Straw. You really got this thing!
Anybody find the two types of grouping games totally different in terms of difficulty? I go through In-Out games (of all levels) relatively fast and with good accuracy, but I am terribly slow at making inferences on Grouping games that have more than two categories. Actually, I am just bad at making inferences on "grouping- distribution games" (grouping games that aren't In-Out).
But I know what to do- I am going to make copies of grouping games that aren't In-Out (the games that I suck at) and do them even more than three times each. I have to make my weakness my strength. It's going to be hard but that is the price to pay for getting a high score.
I am still on the drilling stage and will not be on the PT stage for a while. If I have to postpone until September, that is honestly fine with me. The goal is to maximize my score, not to maximize my score by a certain point in time.
Everyone seems motivated and sharp as of now- keep it up everyone.

Don't feel bad about limited ability on those Distribution games. When I first started them, I sucked! In fact, when tackling pretty much any new game type I sucked. I think everyone could probably agree with me. Also, as for the bolded, I think that is a very rational and logical thing to consider. While we are all of course going to take in June and get a 180Louis1127 wrote:Way to go on the 180 on blind review, Straw. You really got this thing!

That's the attitude ^ I second that ^
I didn't introduce myself earlier, but I'm on board for June and the class of 2018! Glad to join you all on this ride. With discipline and diligence we can all achieve our goals on this test!
I just finished PT 32 (after 3 months of manhattan guides, some of the bibles and velocity) and scored a 147 timed without the boost of guesses (blind review 165), and happy to have come a long 12 point increase thus far.
LR-3/17 (-1)
RC-2/13 (-0)
LG-4/13 (-0)
LR-2/18 (-0)
My biggest issue has been speed rather than accuracy. My accuracy is 82%. If only I could complete each entire section, I feel I would score in the mid 160's. The number of attempted questions hasn't change, so I am sure I can increase my speed not that I am drilling "timed" sections and adjusting my personal pacing on each section. Being nervous seems common on this exam, and I noticed I lost all my point during point where I get nervous due to time. Calm and collected wins the race, and I am realizing that; however, the fight in not nearly over.
Let's all keep at it, this next few months will fly and everyone will see dramatic gains.

Do you think anyone will notice if I print out drilling material at work? My printer is like a Jeep with ink.

I do it on occasion, but I also take it to Kinkos. You can print out a LOT of stuff for pretty cheap.famousblueraincoat wrote:Do you think anyone will notice if I print out drilling material at work? My printer is like a Jeep with ink.

Re: The Official June 2014 Study Group
I'm gonna join you all in here. I'm really studying for October, but I'm open to taking in June if I'm regularly PTing above 175 by then. I'm aiming for 180, but would take anything above 175.
Started studying Feb 2 with a 168 diagnostic. Worked through Kaplan's LR book (I know, I know) and am about to start on the bibles.
I'll be back in a day or two with a new PT score. Good luck, everyone!

Re: The Official June 2014 Study Group
Checking in. I'm not sure if I'm employing a good study strategy or not, but I'm just working through preptests section by section (normally do 2 sections a day). Basically, I'll take a timed section and then when I'm done I'll check my answers and go over my right and wrong answers. On my last 5, I've gotten a 169, 172, 166, 169, and 170 so I definitely feel like I'm on the right track. Next month, I'm planning to begin taking 2 sections at a time and then over April and May I'll take full prep tests to build up my stamina.
For anyone having trouble with LR, I'd definitely recommend the Manhattan book. After working through it, I improved my LR from a consistent -7 or -8 to a -3 or -4. It's still my weakest section so hopefully I'll be able to pick up a few more points as we get closer to test day.
