Does anyone have experience writing their own LOR?

Do people actually do this? Asking out of pure curiosity and not sarcasm lol.

It's more common than you think, mostly because people asked to write the recommendation just say "you write it an I'll sign it."

It's a double-edge sword though, because from what I've read, admissions can tell a lot of the time when the letter was written by an applicant.

This and if the writing style is too similar to your other submissions. So this is going to take some time

Why, that looks remarkably similar to my list, I just won't be submitting an app to Cal, and wanted to make sure Vandy doesn't have any excuse to YP me.

More that they don't need to be told why - they already know.

I have bullet points for most of my Why X's - just need to convert them into a real essay. Duke was waaaay more interesting than I previously thought after I did some digging. All of my essays are going to be genuine, which is helpful.

Also, I think this thread is more dead than others because we all fear how bad we did and lack the optimism of receiving good scores because of the RC. Just my $.02 though.

Mine had word count limits. However, I think it's important to just focus on your honest reasons instead of length.

3/4 of a page - 1 whole page generally seems to be a good length. Make sure you do your research before writing them and figure out what you want to write about so that you come across as sincere.

Same. Mine are clocking in at about just under a page. I've got a fairly long paragraph I wrote about why I'm interested in a specific area of law that I'm using for every school, and then the second/third paragraphs are about why that particular school would support my interest in that particular area.

Sure, but I'll have to send it after work. I'd be just fine at page limits if we didn't have to double-space everything.

I didn't really talk about Why Law in my Why Duke because my personal statement explains Why Law so it felt redundant. Probably why I was able to keep it at a page.

Yeah, I needed a solid paragraph for Why Law, since I'd really only referenced it briefly in the PS, and felt it deserved a thorough explanation when they wanted it specifically.
