Yeah, I'm an idiot. Idk why I thought you meant you were recommending yourself *facepalm*. I know people write them and have the individual sign it. Happy Monday lol.chewinggum wrote:This and if the writing style is too similar to your other submissions. It's a double-edge sword though, because from what I've read, admissions can tell a lot of the time when the letter was written by an applicant.

I'm totally slacking on mine. I did one for NYU but still need to review it, and that is pretty much it lol.Jack_Kelly wrote:Some yeah, have written Duke, UVA, Michigan. Still planning on doing Berkeley and GULC.Mikey wrote:just did a 2nd draft of my PS. have any of you done your Why X essays yet?

Why, that looks remarkably similar to my list, I just won't be submitting an app to Cal, and wanted to make sure Vandy doesn't have any excuse to YP me.Jack_Kelly wrote:Some yeah, have written Duke, UVA, Michigan. I thought the consensus was CCN didn't like "Why X" essays?
(Though if I get NYU, it'd probably be at sticker, so probably not worth it for me anyway)

Re: Dive-bombing for Judges, September 2017 Waiter's Thread
I have bullet points for most of my Why X's - just need to convert them into a real essay. Duke was waaaay more interesting than I previously thought after I did some digging. All of my essays are going to be genuine, which is helpful.
Also, I think this thread is more dead than others because we all fear how bad we did and lack the optimism of receiving good scores because of the RC. Just my $.02 though.

I agree. I was super active in the June waiters thread but it was a lot harder to post here knowing I blew the test hahatwiix wrote:I have bullet points for most of my Why X's - just need to convert them into a real essay. Mine had word count limits. However, I think it's important to just focus on your honest reasons instead of length.CottonHarvest wrote:I don't even know what to write in my Why X essays. How long are yours?

3/4 of a page - 1 whole page generally seems to be a good length. Make sure you do your research before writing them and figure out what you want to write about so that you come across as sincere.CottonHarvest wrote:I don't even know what to write in my Why X essays. How long are yours?

I got into a twitter fight about cultural appropriation last night and as soon as I put my phone down and opened my computer, it decided to remind me that Columbus Day is tomorrow [today].

Same. Mine are clocking in at about just under a page. I've got a fairly long paragraph I wrote about why I'm interested in a specific area of law that I'm using for every school, and then the second/third paragraphs are about why that particular school would support my interest in that particular area.Ntp73821 wrote:3/4 of a page - 1 whole page generally seems to be a good length. I wasn't able to keep Duke that short, since they wanted a Why Law in there as well, which spread it out another third of a page.Mikey wrote:I think all of mine are going to be about a page or under

Care to trade? My Why Duke is still only a page, and I did talk about Why Law.wmbuff wrote:I wasn't able to keep Duke that short, since they wanted a Why Law in there as well, which spread it out another third of a page.Mikey wrote:I think all of mine are going to be about a page or under

Sure, but I'll have to send it after work. I'd be just fine at page limits if we didn't have to double-space everything.littlelibertine wrote:Care to trade? I didn't really talk about Why Law in my Why Duke because my personal statement explains Why Law so it felt redundant. Probably why I was able to keep it at a page.wmbuff wrote:

Yeah, I needed a solid paragraph for Why Law, since I'd really only referenced it briefly in the PS, and felt it deserved a thorough explanation when they wanted it specifically.Ntp73821 wrote:I didn't really talk about Why Law in my Why Duke because my personal statement explains Why Law so it felt redundant.
