I put a good amount of research into the right study materials for me considering my habits and abilities. I have a full-time career and am not a student, so again 'grain of salt.'

It really seems to depend on your study habits. Are you a good test taker who has the willpower to section out major study time? If so, then you'd probably do fine with a well thought out self-study program. The PowerScore Bibles seem to be pretty unanimously agreed upon as some of the best books available, primarily the LG Bible. Also, LSAC's Super Prep books are good from-the-source material and provide decent PTs to cut your teeth on. The great thing about LSAC's Super Prep books are that they provide explanations for all the test questions. Sounds like you worked your way through the first one so maybe go grab the second and a few "10 Actual LSAT Tests" books. I've read that you want to at least do 10 PTs before taking the test, and I myself am aiming for 30+, so I'm feeling good with self-study PS Bibles, Super Preps and 10 Actual books.

I am also taking a live course, but that's because with a demanding job I have a premium on free time and want to make the most of it and know that with the way I learn, a live course is a good investment for me. I'm doing PowerScore because I don't want to deviate from the techniques I will be learning in the Bibles. I've heard 7sage, Blueprint and Manhattan are also great courses.

For any type of live teaching, courses or tutors, ask to speak with the instructor before paying any money. Also ask to call former students for referrals. The big thing to keep in mind is just because someone scored in the top percentile doesn't mean they're good at showing other people how to do it, so talk to former students and get their opinions.

Like I said, it really seems to come down to your study habits and learning styles. This is just what I'm doing and using, but what may work for you could be different. Read reviews on the study materials and see if the reviews jive with your habits.
thanks a lot! I'm going to order the books definitely tonight

Looks like I will be sitting for June's LSAT or September's

I may need a prep class or to really do more practice tests

I work part-time in a study space at my university and was doing a logic game on a whiteboard during some down time. I saw the person whose shift was after mine come in to relieve me, and I jokingly tell her, "Don't think I'm insane, this is just for the LSAT. You have to take the test to get into law school. These are called logic games. "

The girl, a typical sorority sister who is very nice but blissfully ignorant and a little vapid, goes, "So, like, what are those?" "Oh, it's just like a game that you need to use logic to solve. It's really weird," I say.

Her response: "Oh wow, so they play games with you?"

Well no, not really...

I'm using Ultimate right now. I'm not the best person to ask because I studied a lot using Powerscore and preptests before enrolling, and am mainly using 7sage for its logic games lessons. But I think it would be a great course if you're starting from zero. They have tons of lessons on the logical foundations you need to understand the LSAT, which I didn't need to use but would be very helpful. I'd say Ultimate is a good sweet spot, but you could get away with the less comprehensive courses depending on where you're starting from. (In hindsight, I didn't need to buy such a comprehensive course given my goals.)

I thought I was getting better at logic games, and today I just got DEMOLISHED by two consecutive determined assignment games. :/ I'm not sure how long it's going to take me to actually understand this.

after getting screwed by the Dec test, did my first lg today. This was a section I have done a few times many months ago.

Pt-21 LG took me 36:55 min to do for -0. At 35:00 min mark, I was at -3. Looked up the target time for its games at 7sage and the total adds to 34:00 min for the section, so should have done better.

For lr, I did 37 strengthen qs from Cambridge workbook volume-3 for -1/37.
Really not sure what I should do to prep at this point, somehow my practics scores are not translating to the game day.

Maximus, what are you buying the PT for? If you're planning on eventually doing more than just one practice test, I would strongly recommend buying 10 Actual, Official LSAT PrepTests Volume V. Here's the link to buy it on Amazon: http://www.amazon.com/10-Actual-Officia ... s+volume+v

Buying a single PT costs $5-10, but a book of 10 only costs $20-25, so it's definitely worth it.

If you're just starting your prep, I would actually recommend buying the 3 most recent volumes of 10 Actual, Official LSAT PrepTests. Save Volume V for full-length practice tests, and then keep the other two for timed sections or for practice on individual question types.

And just for good measure, here's a blog post with a bit more about the PrepTests: http://magoosh.com/lsat/2016/what-are-t ... ice-tests/

I hope that answers your question. Not entirely sure that's what you were asking about, but hopefully it'll be helpful for someone out there :D

anyone know which is better Manhattan LG vs Blueprint LG?

i've heard the term "splitting the game board" used often on 7sage videos. which book/companies describe the splitting approach?

I took a free workshop with Manhattan once. When they spoke about logic games the instructor split the game board. I haven't looked at Manhattan's LG book but I'm guessing since the instructor split the game board up, it should be the way the book teaches it as well.

The earliest I can meet on Saturday is 2:30 PST. Is that cool? Also, I've already taken 52 a year ago, so can we do 51 instead?

Hey aghassemi,

If there are any questions that you're still struggling with after the Hangout and you're looking for further input, I'd love to help out. Feel free to message me on here or just post which ones you're looking for feedback on.

I'd join you for the call if I could, but I've got some plans and I don't want to intrude.

Good luck with the practice test!

By the way, a quick intro:

My name's Travis and I've been tutoring the LSAT off and on for about 10 years. I check this forum regularly and would be happy to answer anyone's questions about specific problems, pacing, test day concerns, etc...

I got my JD from NYU in 2009 and have been living in Northern California for the past 7 years. I work for a company called Magoosh, writing an online prep course for the LSAT.

Here's my blog: https://magoosh.com/lsat. It's in its infancy, so there's not a ton to look at right now, but I'll be updating it regularly with helpful info. If you have any burning questions that you'd like to see addressed in the blog, give me a heads up.

Thanks, good luck, and happy studying!

Travis

Sure, 2:30 works for me. If that conflicts with anyone else, PM me & I can try and do more than one group review that day if necessary. Also, I meant to put PT #51, not 52; my bad!

Hi Travis,

I really appreciate you reaching out & offering your help; I'll definitely contact you if I have any issues. You won't be intruding at all so if you end up having time to join us, please do. The new time is 2:30 PST & if I see that a few people need to do it earlier/later, I'll try & do more than 1 group review.

Thanks again!

Hey,

VERY long time lurker, I am on a retake didn't really study to good on my last go so I got some new materials.

I am trying to see up my study schedule. I have the Powerscore books, I also got their game type training books. I also went ahead and picked up the Manhattan LSAT Strategy Guides. Would you guys suggest I got through all my powerscore books first then move to the Manhattan books or do them together i.e Powerscore LG bible and the Manhattan LG book after and so on? I also have preptest 52-71 which I am going to try to take on Saturdays since I work fulltime.

Thanks for any responses! :D

What helped me with these was graphing them. If you graph it like a logic game, it becomes clear what HAS to occur.

I am diagramming them but i'm having problems with diagramming conditional logic. Like some of the words confuse me so then I don't know how to graph it or what i'm looking for in the answer :|

First time test taker here. Been looking through the full 7sage course the past few days, just took the June 2007 diag and got a 159. Didn't BR yet, just peeked at the score, so we'll see if there's any significant difference. I've got all my PTs (29-38, 52-present), LSAT Trainer is on its way, and I have the Manhattan set of books, LG, LR, and RC. Ready to work through 7sage's curriculum and start PTing regularly. I'm working full-time in a professional salaried position so we'll see how the speed goes and what my PTs are looking like as we draw closer. I'd *like* to test in June but with the scores I want, preferably a 173, I may have to wait. Anyway hi.
